Strictly Come Dancing has become famous in recent years for its ‘curse’ – but there’s something else lurking just beneath the surface.
Far from stars falling in love with each other, this curse seems to lead to stars signing up to racy subscription site OnlyFans, only to end in disaster.
From Great British Bake Off star John Whaite’s stint ending in him quitting the site in a fury to Kerry Katona claiming she was ‘blacklisted’ from Strictly for her sexy content, OnlyFans and Strictly just don’t seem to gel.

Daily Star has decided to take a deep dive into this so-called ‘curse’ and see what’s really going on…
John Whaite’s porn scandal
In August 2022, Great British Bake Off star John Whaite announced he was launching his very own OnlyFans.
The star, who was partnered with Johannes Radebe in the 2021 series of Strictly, clarified that he would not be “doing porn” on his account, despite the explicit nature of the site.
He explained: “Before anyone gets the wrong impression please let me reassure you that I am not doing porn.
“Though I do have friends who do porn and think sex work should be respected, but that’s a different story!”
John instead said he would be sharing workout content and gym videos, telling fans he believes his “workout videos have a value” and his gym progress snaps would now be “appropriately situated in an area where age-restriction is better handled”.
Before making the move to OnlyFans, John was no stranger to a racy snap or two – even stripping stark naked on his Instagram Stories to showcase his peachy bum.
Standing in a bath overlooking the London skyline through a floor-to-ceiling window, John covered his naked rear with a ‘got out of bed’ sticker and told fans not to worry as nobody could see in.
Despite all that, it wasn’t long – only a matter of months, really – until he quit the platform following child exploitation allegations.
The TV chef explained: “Following the news today alleging that users of the OnlyFans platform are still able to exploit young children, I have taken the decision to close down my account.
“While the claims are yet to be proven/refuted, I cannot morally continue to use a platform that is subject to such serious allegations.
“Exploitation of children is abhorrent and it is incumbent on corporations such as OnlyFans to ensure they have the most advanced filter systems in place to prevent and report such activity.”
John said he “won’t put profit before social purpose”.
OnlyFans previously defended its actions, with a spokesperson stating: “We use a combination of state-of-the-art technology together with human monitoring and review to prevent children under the age of 18 from sharing content on OnlyFans.
“This is something that we take very seriously. We constantly review our systems to ensure they are as robust as possible.”
Kerry Katona ‘blacklisted’
John Whaite isn’t the only star to be affected by OnlyFans – far from it.
Kerry Katona alleged she has been ‘blacklisted’ from ever appearing on Strictly Come Dancing after sharing X-rated content on the site.
The Atomic Kitten star regularly shares racy content and lingerie snaps on the platform after undergoing another boob job.
Speaking to OK! about her desire to take part, Kerry insisted it is “absolutely disgusting” that the BBC likely wouldn’t allow her to participate.
She said: “I’d love to do Strictly, but I don’t think they’ll have me because I did Dancing on Ice and I just don’t think I’m BBC material.
“I think because I do OnlyFans, they probably wouldn’t have me for the show, which is absolutely disgusting because they have so many actresses on there.”
She went on: “The word actress back in the day was a word for prostitute.
“So people’s stigma and morals of how it all works, it baffles me.”
The BBC declined to comment on the matter.
Nicola Adams ‘risks BBC wrath’
Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams made Strictly history when she took part in the first ever same-sex dancing couple on the show back in 2020.
However, it was initially reported by MailOnline that she “risked the wrath of the BBC” with the move.
Nicola polled her fans on whether to set up an OnlyFans account with her girlfriend Ella, who already runs her own profile on the site.
Taking to Instagram for a quick video, Nicola teased: “Ella doesn’t know… yet, what do you think about me and Ella doing some couples OnlyFans?”
82% of fans voted she should go for it – though it hasn’t been confirmed whether Nicola actually went ahead or not.
Ella, meanwhile, sells nudes and explicit videos on her account, with users able to subscribe to her account for £20 a month or £140 for a year.
Rylan has ‘no hope’
Strictly It Takes Two host Rylan Clark confessed he had “no hope” of his new book reaching a high number on the Bestseller charts earlier this year – and teased he might start an OnlyFans to cope with it.
Rylan, who rose to fame on X Factor, has released his second autobiography, entitled Ten, which looks at his decade in the showbiz spotlight.
The star joked on social media: “Just seen a list of who’s releasing their books the same time as me… We got not hope haha. So if you fancy helping a one time number 1 best selling author get to approx number 68 in the chart then you can pre order #RylanTen now for a bargain TENNER.”
Sitting topless in a video shared with fans, he later admitted: “So I’m just sitting here thinking about the book, thinking about all the blood sweat and tears. Then I thought f*** this I’m having a kebab.
“And then I thought I’ll have Judi Dench on the telly. Then I thought I’m going to start an OnlyFans.”
He then posted a link, insisting: “The link’s there for my OnlyFans!”
However, it was a link to an Amazon page which allowed fans to buy his new book.
