“Bigger I would argue, as a couple, than William and Kate. That’s probably not a good thing in the long term.”

It followed a snippet of their pal Lucy Fraser saying that internals at the palace were “threatened” by their popularity following the trip to Australia.

The documentary then saw Harry discuss the “issue” with Meghan’s popularity as he said: “When someone who is marrying in – and should be a supporting act – is then stealing the limelight or is doing the job better than the person who is born to do this, that upsets people.

“It shifts the balance, you’ve been led to believe the only way your charities can succeed or the only way that your reputation can be grown or improved is if you’re on the front page of those newspapers.”

Harry explained that the “penny dropped” for the pair when the entire senior family had attended an event and they received breakfast the next day alongside a newspaper with Meghan on the front page.

The pair hinted at their concern as Harry explained that Meghan immediately said, “it’s not my fault”, as he reassured her that it wasn’t – and added: “My mum felt the same way”.

The documentary then showed Diana, Princess of Wales, getting public attention to suggest the similarities between the pair.

Meghan and Harry have continued to make scathing claims as they give Netflix viewers an insight into their lives.

Harry & Meghan is streaming on Netflix now.
