Speaking to Daily Star about the storyline, Daniel joked: “I’m very grateful I never had children in real life.”

He continued: “We’re in the middle of the surrogacy stuff which is on screen now.

“The stuff we’re shooting now won’t be on screen until February.

“Harriet [Bibby] is amazing and I absolutely adore her. We have a really lovely off-screen relationship.

“Harriet is lot older than the character which I think has been brilliant because she’s been able to get on with that perspective of playing somebody five or six years younger.

“There’s a maturity to the perfromance which I think has been needed because it’s been a hell of a year for her.”

Daniel went on to tease what fans of the ITV soap can expect from Billy as we enter 2023.

He said: I’m looking forward to the next 12, 18 months.

“I’m in my ninth year and I’ve never worked anywhere longer than two years ever.

“I’ve been doing this for a living for 30 years but this is by far the longest I’ve ever worked anywhere.

“I adore it and love it here. You can coast for a bit. There’s a lot of regular characters so there are years you’re quieter in storyline but it is always lovely when they give you something meaty and fun.

“Thats the thing about Corrie, as an actor you get to play comedy and drama.

“I think it’s the only show where you have that opportunity.

“In real life we have funny day, we have rubbish day and the way they write Corrie we really have the opportunity to see the characters in all their guises.”

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITVX
