Coronation Street’s Amy Barlow has been played by no less than eight actresses, making her one of the most re-cast characters in soap history.
After being introduced in 2004 as the daughter of Tracy Barlow, Amy has been involved in storylines including teenage pregnancy and dating reformed drug dealer Jacob Hay.
Amy is also set to be involved in another storyline that sees the ITV soap tackle the issue of consent in upcoming weeks.

The character has been at the center of some of Corrie’s biggest stories, and here, Daily Star takes a look at where the actresses who have played Amy Barlow are now.
Holly Bowyer and Rebecca Pike
Three actresses shared the role of Amy Barlow when she was first introduced onto our screens.
The first to play Amy Barlow was Holly Bowyer between February to March 2004.
She briefly shared the role with Rebecca Pike and Amber Chadwick, who both took over from Holly until 2005.
However, it appears that Holly and Rebecca have both left acting behind them as no other roles are credited for the child stars on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB).
It is not known where the stars are now or what they have been up to since their Coronation Street days.
Louisa Morris / Rachel and Sarah Corker
When Holly, Rebecca and Amber left Coronation Street in 2005, child star Louisa Morris took over as Amy Barlow from June to September 2005.
However Louisa did not appear in the soap for a short period of time between August to September 2005, during which time the role was played by twins Rachael and Sarah Corker.
She was later replaced by Madison Hampson.
Similarly to the Amy Barlow actresses before her, no further acting credits are listed for Louisa or Rachel and Sarah Corker on IMDB, and it appears all three stars have stepped away from the limelight.
Madison Hampson
Madison Hampson played Amy Barlow for little under one year from September 2005 to March 2006.
However during the final weeks of her appearances, reports emerged that the child star was taken out of the soap, after her parents deemed the scenes she was involved in to be “too harrowing,” as per OK! Magazine.
ITV and Coronation Street bosses denied the reports, saying in a statement at the time: “At that age they are still learning about their environment, about colours, about who is who – it is a lot to take in.
“It is hard for children to be on set at that age and we regularly have different actors or actresses before we settle on somebody at around 16.
“We work within very strict guidelines and would never cause a child to feel distress or uncomfortable.”
When Madison’s contract came to an end, previous Amy Barlow star Amber Chadwick returned to the role.
Madison has not appeared in any other TV or film roles since according to IMDB, and it is not known what the actress is up to now.
Amber Chadwick
Original Amy Barlow star Amber Chadwick made a return to the role 2006 after Amy Barlow actress Madison Hampson left the soap, remaining in the role until 2010.
Soap bosses decided to recast the character in 2010, to co-incide with the return of Tracey Barlow following her prison stint for the murder of lover Charlie Stubbs.
Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Amber was lovely but Elle is a very natural little actress.”
Like Holly and Rebecca before her, Amber appears to have left her acting days behind her and there is no further information on where Amber is now.
Elle Mulvaney
Elle Mulvaney is the longest running Amy Barlow star, after taking over from Amber Chadwick in 2010.
However, Elle revealed to Inside Soap that she did not think she was going to win the role as she believed she had “messed up her audition”, saying: “I remember doing the audition and worrying that the other person was going to get the part.
“My cardigan was buttoned up wrong, and I had beans down my top. I even said my line wrong!”
The talented star had begun acting through the Carol Godby Theatre Workshop from the age of four, with Elle taking on the role of Amy from seven years old.
During her time on the soap, Elle has been involved in many hard hitting storylines including teenage pregnancy, her romance with Jacob Hay and the current storyline around consent in Coronation Street.
Her performance has been widely praised, with Elle nominated three times for Best Young Actor at the Inside Soap Awards and winning Best Young Performance at the British Soap Awards in 2017.
Away from the limelight, Elle lives in her stunning Cheshire home with her family, which she has shared glimpses of in a series of Instagram posts.
Along with a grand entrance hallway, winding staircase and lavish interior featuring a vintage chandelier and crushed velvet bed, Elle shares her home with two adorable pooches called Bowie and Ziggy.
Off-set, the actress has close co-star bonds with her fellow Corrie cast mates too, including Harriet Bibby who plays Summer Spellman and Asha Alahan star Tanisha Gorey.
Speaking about their close bond, Elle told OK! Magazine: “We play a little girl gang and I’m really close to them. I grew up with Tanisha, she’s been on the show just as long as I have.
“Having Tanisha there from the beginning has just been so beautiful for us both because we’ve both experienced the same things. We all have.
“And Harriet and Millie have joined more recently but we all just really get along. We’ve got a Snapchat chat and an Instagram group so we all keep in touch.”
That’s not all, as Elle confirmed a sweet co-star romance with Eli Higginson star Liam Scholes in December 2022, when the pair went Instagram official.
Romance rumours began to swirl when they were spotted at Winter Wonderland in London together, with the pair confirming their relationship in a sweet mirror selfie together.
Liam is a singer in band The Lanks outside of Corrie too, with Elle seen sharing photographs of the couple as she supported him at a gig.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX
