When asked if the band still parties as much as they used to in their heyday, Robin said: “We have trashed some hotel rooms, of course, and we fall over chairs and often come back very loud, but nowadays it’s a little less maybe.
“It depends where you are. Sometimes you need to get a plane early in the morning, so more I’m wise now and think tomorrow will be hell.
“But if it’s a nice opportunity, like last month we were in Singapore, and the hotel was lovely It was called Marina Bay – it has a boat on it and it has an infinity pool, and like a whole tropical island in the hotel.”
He continued: “We came back from the club and we deiced to skinny-dip and dive into the pool at 6am.
“But they were not really excited about us being naked, we were the first ones in the pool, and then security came and said ‘You have to be a little decent for the regular guests who are about to have breakfast,’ but we tried.
“The UK has a special place in my heart as we had two No1 hits and they are still going strong now. If we perform in the UK it’s always a major success.
“The people go crazy, they know every word, so the UK has a very special place in our hearts.
“If we are down after a performance somewhere else where we aren’t as popular, we are like ‘Yay we are going to the UK’ and we know we will have a good time.”
Vengaboys will be performing at the 10th edition of the non-profit, award-winning UK family festival Teddy Rocks.
The festival is on a mission to fight Children’s Cancer with rock and was set up by Tom Newton in memory of his 10-year-old brother Ted who sadly lost his fight in 2010 to a rare bone cancer.
The event raises money for children’s cancer charities and will feature other acts such as Feeder, Jake Bugg, The Amazons, East 17, and Goldie Lookin Chain.
The festival will take place at Charisworth Farm in Dorset on Friday 28 to Sunday 30 April.
