Ted Lasso star didn’t need intimacy coach for sex scenes as they ‘found the rhythm’

In a testament to her honesty, Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham has revealed that she didn’t need any help from an intimacy coach ahead of her sex scenes in Tom Jones.

Overcome with the emotion of starring in her first-ever period drama, the 48-year-old opened the floodgates and told all about her and Solly McLeod’s bedroom scenes.

The two actors have been cast in an adaptation of Henry Fielding’s iconic 1749 novel.

The popular story tells the tale of an abandoned child, left on a doorstep, who grows up with dashing looks, but struggles with adversity in 18th-century Britain due to his humble beginnings.

Waddingham admitted that she adored playing the role of villain Lady Bellaston, who catches feelings for Tom despite being double his age and being in love with her niece, heiress Sophia (Sophie Wilde), who has more than a penny or two to her name.

When discussing their intimacy co-ordinator choreographed sex scenes, she said: “It was great to have that support, but you find your own rhythms together.

“I imagine her like a hawk with her claws coming down and grabbing Tom.”

In just a month, Waddingham will host the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

But if that wasn’t enough to fill her heart with joy, she’ll undoubtedly be over the moon to hear about what Scottish-born McLeod had to say about her.

He beamed: “What can you expect from Lady B? Naughtiness. She’s just very bad. But in a very fun way.

“We didn’t have loads of scenes together, but there were a few. And a lot of them, we weren’t wearing many clothes, and it was all a bit… you know.”

Finally getting to star in a period drama was a massive check off the bucket list for Waddingham.

She said: “I feel like I might have peaked in the whole powdered wig world – I’ve massively ticked that box.”

However, this life-changing opportunity nearly failed to materialise.

Initially, writer Gwyneth Strong wasn’t particularly big on adapting the book.

However, upon opening her copy, she instantly changed her mind.

The 63-year-old claimed: “I’d never read it, it’s a million pages long, and I thought it would just be some sort of randy sh*gfest.

“I picked it up rather glumly and within a couple of pages, was so addicted to it. Tom is a lovely, gorgeous, adorable young man, there’s an incredibly feisty heroine and a wonderful villain. It’s irresistible.”

Tom Jones lands on ITVX from May 4.
