ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent hit with over 100 complaints after booing controversy

Britain’s Got Talent has received over 100 Ofcom complaints from disgruntled viewers following the show’s grand final.

The media watchdog confirmed that 116 complaints had been issued from viewers about this year’s final last Sunday (June 4), when Norwegian comedian Viggo Venn was crowned winner.

Ofcom also revealed that an additional 69 complaints had been made following the episode on Tuesday (May 30).

It’s clear not everybody was happy to hear that Viggo had won the talent show, because audible boos could be heard from the crowd when hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly announced the 16th show champ.

Viggo beat out stiff competition from young magician Cillian O’Connor and dancer Lillianna.

Judges Simon Cowell., Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli seemed delighted with the news that Viggo won.

But fans on Twitter seemed divided, with one complaining: “Who agrees with me that Viggo Venn was a big mistake to be the winner of Britain’s Got Talent?”

Viggo accidentally swore during the final

Another said: “@BGT Has become a joke. Viggo was funny but nowhere near as talented as the other finalists. Shambles of a show that’s well past its sell by date.”

And the comic in the high-vis jacket got himself into trouble when he accidentally swore while live on air during his performance.

The bad language forced Ant and Dec to issue an apology to viewers watching at home.

Ant and Dec apologised to viewers

Viggo was performing with a huge red balloon on stage, but when it popped, things appeared to take a tense turn.

A distressed Viggo could then be heard saying “oh s**t” as the balloon started to deflate, before asking Ant and Dec: “Is this live?”

Later on, Ant said: “Now we apologise for any bad language that you might have heard during that. So apologies, somebody did, not going to name any names.”

Britain’s Got Talent is expected to return to ITV1 and ITVX in 2024
