Smiling Sinéad O’Connor showed off new London flat before tragic death aged 56

Sinéad O’Connor had reportedly only just moved back to London just weeks before her tragic death aged 56.

The legendary Irish singer’s passing was confirmed by her “devastated” family in a statement on Wednesday night (July 27), prompting tributes from people around the world.

And a police statement on Thursday confirmed that the Nothing Compares 2 U singer was found “unresponsive” at her home but they were not treating the death as suspicious.

“Police were called at 11:18hrs on Wednesday, 26 July to reports of an unresponsive woman at a residential address in the SE24 area,” the police statement read.

“Officers attended. A 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

But the singer appeared to be in high spirits prior to her untimely passing as she was seen smiling and sharing her excitement at seeing the ballet in London.

According to MailOnline, Sinéad moved back to London at the beginning of July and called it her “home”, showing fans her lovely new flat in videos posted on social media.

In the clip shot on July 9, she revealed that she felt very happy to be home, was writing “new tunes” and hinted that she could start touring again in the future.

The Twitter video showed off the black Martin Johnny Cash electro-acoustic guitar on the wall as well as some “beautiful” sunflowers bought for her as a housewarming gift.

But the laughing singer apologised to viewers for the mess and insisted she was still unpacking, dubbing her apartment a “sh**hole” because her belongings were everywhere.

Sinéad said she was excited to see a screening of Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote ballet, which is being shown at the Barbican.

She tweeted: “SO fuggin excited to go see Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote in 14 hours and 17 minutes !!! I mean, just, OM effin’ G !!!'”
