Home and Away’s Kyle Shiling has opened up on performing a major stunt on the Channel 5 soap this early in his career.
The 28-year-old made his debut as Mali Hudson in January 2023 and has been involved in several major storylines since first arriving in Summer Bay.
During Friday’s episode (August 4), the surfer found himself at the centre of Marliyn’s (Emily Symons) fight against Stunning Organics after she frantically informed him that the corrupt skincare brand had sent her a box containing a bomb.

Realising the package was now with Roo (Georgie Parker) and John (Shane Withington), Mali chased them down in his car and screamed at them to get out of the van.
As Mali sprinted towards the vehicle, the bomb exploded and sent him flying into the air.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star about the current storyline, Kyle admitted he was “blown away” at the opportunity to play such a major part in it.
“It was amazing. When I found out about this storyline I was so excited,” the soap star said.
“To be able to do something at this level in Home and Away so early in my career, I was just like, ‘Yeah, come on. Let this be a set up to a lot more things like this’.
“For me to have the opportunity to do to that I was blown away. It was so much fun and I loved it and want to do more of it.”
After the episode originally aired in Australia, behind-the-scenes footage of the stunt was shared on TikTik and showed the special effects involved in creating the sequence.
Kyle used a small trampoline to launch himself in the air, while a flash lighting effect was used to create the illusion of a bomb blast.
Protecting Kyle from injury were gym mats which were placed on the floor and cushioned his fall as he was flung backwards.
Despite the risks that come with these particular stunts, Kyle admitted he was more than willing to tackle it and even said no to a body double.
He explained: “The stunts were a big part of it. In my studies I’d done a lot of tumbling work so I was more than capable and confident to do it.”
“When they told me there were stunt doubles there I was like, ‘Next time don’t hire them’.”
He clarified that while he didn’t need to use the stunt doubles, it was comforting having them on set with him.
Kyle added: “They were good there. There was this one guy who was great to have there who kept me calm. It was awesome.”
