Susanna Reid pulls out of Good Morning Britain as she issues health update

She usually wakes up the nation on the hugely popular ITV new programme from Monday to Wednesday.

But this week is a little bit different after Susanna Reid revealed to her loyal legion of fans that she would not be presenting Good Morning Britain on Monday (September 11) due to an illness.

Taking to the social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – she wrote: “Sorry not to be back on @gmb with you all in the morning. Vocal cords still affected. Recovering with specialist treatment and brilliant tips from viewers. See you very soon! Sx.”

It didn’t take long before her famous friends and adoring fans passed on their well wishes online, with Channel 5 presenter Dan Walker sharing his concern, writing: “Hope you’re ok. See you soon.”

Another user wished her a speedy recovery, adding: “Be safe and recover well” while a third echoed: “Get better soon.”

The brunette beauty later took to Instagram where she shared a short video clip showcasing her damaged vocal chords on her Story.

She said: “Quick update on my voice, which as you can hear is not 100 per cent. I feel absolutely fine but the specialists that I saw on Friday said not to risk it until it is better.

“Thank you to everyone at GMB for stepping in and all of you for your brilliant tips. I have been steaming and also doing honey and lemon and ginger and turmeric tea and drinking tons of water. I will see you soon.”

The news anchor captioned the post: “Sorry I won’t be with you in the morning. Vocal chords affected by mild infection (not [Covid]), that I didn’t even realise I had. Need to rest them a little longer. See you v soon!”

Luckily, her supportive co-star Ranvir Singh stepped in to replace her on short notice and presented the morning news show with regular her co-host Ed Balls.

It comes after the mum-of-three was forced to pull out of the show at short notice last Wednesday (September 6).

Susanna could be seen sitting in the dressing room via a video link where she briefly explained her absence as Charlotte Hawkins stepped into the hot seat alongside Ed.

Struggling to speak, she told viewers: “I don’t know whether it was the heat inflaming my vocal chords.

“It’s funny because of course it was the NTAs last night and when I got my cab to leave, the driver said, ‘You’re the very first person to leave the NTAs, you’re obviously not partying’.

“Of course, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, so there’s no reason I can understand why I’ve completely lost my voice.”

Ed confirmed that Susanna’s voice had been fine the night before and echoed her story, adding that she left the awards ceremony at 9pm that night.

Susanna added: “I’m really sorry, I can only apologise, but thank you Charlotte for stepping in!

“I didn’t want to inflict this [her voice] on our wonderful viewers for three hours” to which Charlotte added: “Well listen, we hope you get well soon anyway, we’ll get some emergency remedies for you! We will let you rest your voice, otherwise you’ll lose it completely!”
