Legendary British actor Sir Michael Caine has announced he is coming out of retirement to star in a new series on Netflix.
The Italian Job star, 90, has starred in some of the most well-known films in Hollywood during his time on the big screen. But back in October, he announced that he would be hanging up his acting career after seventy years in the business.
But it seems that the pull to the set was too strong for Sir Michael to ignore as he confirmed he would be returning to acting after just two months away from the screen. A source close to the star said: “He’s been asked to star in a Netflix series; details are kept closely guarded.”

No new specific information has been revealed about the project yet. However, if Sir Michael does indeed appear in the final, it would add one more film to his growing catalogue of cameos throughout the course of his career.
Caine is one of the most decorated British actors of all time, having won gongs at the Baftas, the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Throughout his career, he has starred in over 160 film through his 70-year tenure in the industry.
As well as classics such as the box office smash The Italian Job and Zulu, his more recent appearances included Interstellar and the Batman: The Dark Knight franchise. His most recent film, The Great Escaper, was released on October 6.
Telling the story of the legendary story of Bernard Jordan, Sir Michael plays the Royal Navy veteran as he “breaks out” of his nursing home to attend D-Day celebrations in France. The tale is a true story when then-89-year-old Jordan, a veteran of World War II, insisted on going to commemorate the war, despite being told not to by nursing home staff.
Upon hearing the plot of the film, Sir Michael initially declined the opportunity of taking on Bernard’s life several times. But after countless attempts to bag him the role, Caine eventually relented and agreed to play him in the movie.
Speaking about the film to the BBC when it was released, Sir Michael admitted he agreed to play Bernard as he had already considered himself retired. “I keep saying I’m going to retire; well, I am now,” he quipped to the broadcaster.
