Fans of The Chase couldn’t believe it when one contestant bared a striking resemblance to a beloved Only Fools and Horses character.
Four new contestants stepped into the studio to try their luck against the Chasers on Wednesday (January 3). But one contestant stole the show as fans reckoned he looked just like Uncle Albert from the beloved BBC sitcom, played by Buster Merryfield.
The player from Manchester was sporting a big white bushy beard and a cap just like Uncle Albert, the great uncle of Del Boy (David Jason) and Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) in the comedy. And the similarities didn’t stop there, because he was also called Albert.

Fans of the show spotted the likeness immediately and rushed to X, formerly Twitter, to point out the resemblance. “Uncle Albert seat 4!”, wrote one viewer.
“Uncle Albert on #TheChase tonight,” agreed another, while a third said: “F***ing hell, its Uncle Albert.” A fourth quipped: “Is this a celebrity Chase special? Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses.”
Even host Bradley Walsh noticed the uncanny resemblance between the player and the character. He referred to him as Uncle Albert halfway through the show right before he stepped up to face Shaun.
And Shaun couldn’t resist pointing it out to the player, saying: “It’s Uncle Albert, lovely jubbly!”, one of Del’s popular quotes in the sitcom. Albert was a good sport as he jokingly got into character, replying: “Don’t speak to me like that, during the war…”
Fans of Only Fools will know that Uncle Albert was part of the Royal Navy and always used to tell stories, using his catchphrase: “During the war…”
It wasn’t a great start for the team as Paul and Roisin were caught out by Chaser Shaun The Dark Destroyer Wallace. But Albert and Zoe made it through to the Final Chase.
They only managed to score 13 points, meaning they needed pushbacks to win. But luckily, Shaun suffered several pushbacks which meant they were able to win £6,000.
