Jeremy Clarkson couldn’t go for a wee while making The Grand Tour in Africa
The veteran TV star, 63, has appeared in five seasons of the Prime Video show, travelling the world with James May and Richard Hammond test driving different vehicles on adventurous road trips.
And for one of the new episodes, the trio filmed in the 50C heat of Mauritania. And the climate left them all so dehydrated they didn’t spend a penny for almost four days.

Jeremy said: “We drank litres and litres of water, and we didn’t pee. I mean, I don’t know where it was going. Hammond said after three or four days: ‘I’m going to have a pee’ and I suddenly thought: ‘I haven’t had a pee this whole time’.”

Co-star James added: “We did go a few days without a proper wee, and I’m someone who likes to urinate freely. I mean, not in my trousers, but I don’t like to hold it in. “When we did wee it sort of came out as dust.”
The trio camped in the desert because there weren’t any hotels nearby. Jeremy said: “It was bloody tough.”

It was announced in December that the trio, who previously starred on the BBC’s Top Gear together for more than a decade, would be featuring in the final special marking the end of almost 10 years – which Clarkson said felt right.
“I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car,” he told The Times.

“When we had meetings about what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air. (The show) is immensely physical and when you’re unfit and fat and old, which I am … Camping in Mauritania was a stretch.” Clarkson also said he does not think the move to electric cars across the globe makes “very interesting television”.
“An electric car is no different from a chest freezer or a microwave oven. There’s no glamour or excitement. This week on Top Chest Freezer! I think it suits the written media more,” he said. The final TV special will see the trio exploring Zimbabwe.
The Grand Tour: Sand Job is on Prime Video from February 16.
