  • Lady Antebellum Reaches Out to Original Lady A Following Name Dispute

    WENN

Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood are working to solve the issues with the original Lady A whose real name is Anita White following criticisms.
    Jun 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – The stars of Lady Antebellum are pushing ahead under their new moniker Lady A after holding a virtual meeting with blues singer Anita White, who has been performing under the title for 20 years.
White was stunned to learn the country trio had dropped ‘Antebellum’ from their name due to racial sensitivities this week and intended to perform and record as Lady A.
Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood explained the ‘Antebellum’ name had too many links to the American Civil War, insisting, “We are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the Civil War, which includes slavery.”
While White had previously insisted, “It shouldn’t have taken George Floyd to die for them to realise that their name had a slave reference to it,” in snaps shared online by the “Need You Now” group, they’re seen connecting with the singer as they collectively worked to find a way forward.
“Today, we connected privately with the artist Lady A,” the country group began. “Transparent, honest, and authentic conversations were had. We are excited to share we are moving forward with positive solutions and common ground.”
“The hurt is turning into hope. More to come,” they concluded, along with the hashtags, “#LadyABluesSoulFunkGospelArtist #TheTruthIsLoud.”
The original Lady A shared the same photo and message and, in her Instagram story, she also shared a post from black country artist Michael Ricks, who uploaded a photo of the Rolling Stone article where White spoke about Lady Antebellum taking the name.
Alongside the screenshot, he added, “Do a song together? In the spirit of racial reconciliation?” and “Be the next Lil Nas X and Billy Ray,” referring to their massive hit “Old Town Road”.
While White didn’t add anything to the post, she appeared to hint a collaboration between herself and the new Lady A could be on the cards.

AceShowbiz – Rappers Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj are preparing to hit the studio to work on a joint album.
The stars confirmed the news during the latest episode of Wayne’s Young Money Radio show on Friday, June 12, when he invited his protegee on air as a guest to promote “TROLLZ”, her new single with fellow MC Tekashi 6ix9ine.
During the chat, Wayne revealed, “We doing our joint album. A lot of the fans been asking about it. When we gon’ do this (sic)?.”
“You already know, your wish is my command,” Nicki replied.
However, Nicki admitted the thought of going head-to-head with her “No Frauds” and Only collaborator on multiple songs was daunting.
“It’s scary. It’s scary to put a verse on something after you put a verse on it,” she confessed. “Last time we worked together was ‘Rockstar (Remix)’, the Post Malone remix, remember we did that? Love that. But it’s like, me really, really having to think so much…
“I gotta go hard. I can’t just, you know, wing it. So that’s the only thing I would be scared of. But I would definitely do it. Whenever you say the word.”

Wayne then promised to send over some potential tracks for Nicki to check out that night.

  • Artist of the Week: John Legend

The ‘All of Me’ hitmaker is keen to bring some light during the difficult time with his upcoming seventh studio album ‘Bigger Love’ led by an uplifting title track.
    Jun 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – John Legend is all about love. At a very difficult and challenging time like these where the world is hurting amid the global health crisis and worldwide protests against racial injustice, the “All of Me” hitmaker is determined to spread joy and kindness.
The first black man who became an EGOT for winning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony is gearing up for the release of his seventh studio installment. Called “Bigger Love”, the album is two years in the making following his 2018 holiday set “A Legendary Christmas”.
The title track is an uplifting song that offered fans a break from the doom and gloom of 2020. “I just hope it gives people a moment to feel good,” he explained. “I know things are very difficult and a bit scary right now and music isn’t going to solve everyone’s problems, but hopefully it can give people a bit of a lift and bring some light to these dark times.”
The bouncy track was accompanied by a heartwarming music video that featured his wife Chrissy Teigen and their two adorable young kids Luna and Miles. The family footage was fused with homemade clips of fans around the globe dancing to the upbeat single.
The album is announced to be released June 19. It’s expected to make a notable debut if his chart history is any indication – he appeared on Billboard Hot 100 more than a dozen times with his love anthem “All of Me” dominating the chart in 2013 and all of his previous six albums became the top 20 on the R&B Albums chart.
For an artist who’s preparing for an album launch, it’s only natural for them to hype up the project. But promoting an album seems to take a backseat for John Legend. Instead, he’s actively using his platform to amplify black voices amid the Black Lives Matter movement that swept across the country and overseas.
He condemned the killing of George Floyd and supported campaign to “defund” police departments and give more to healthcare and education. He’s also seeking justice for the death of medical worker Breonna Taylor, calling for the arrest of the cops responsible for her death.
