The 20th annual prizegiving event will be going ahead on June 28 with organizers assuring that they will be using ‘an array of innovative techniques and artist-generated content’ as COVID-19 precautions.

AceShowbizDrake leads the 2020 BET Awards nominations with six nods, while newcomers Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch have picked up five apiece.

The Canadian rapper landed mentions in the Male Hip-Hop Artist and Video of the Year, while his “No Guidance” and “Life Is Good” tracks with Chris Brown and Future scored him mentions for Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice.

Megan Thee Stallion also landed a Viewer’s Choice nomination, along with Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Album of the Year and Video of the Year nods, while Ricch is up for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and Viewer’s Choice awards. He’ll also compete for Best New Artist, alongside DaniLeigh, Lil Nas X, Pop Smoke, Summer Walker and YBN Cordae.

The 20th annual BET Awards will take place on 28 June.

Organisers have confirmed the event will be going ahead, despite the restrictions linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, stating they will be using “an array of innovative techniques and artist-generated content.”
