'American Idol': Claudia Conway Tries to Impress Judges, Discusses Relationship With Mom Kellyanne

    ABC

The 16-year-old daughter of former Donald Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway also mentions that she hopes by joining the show, she can ‘get out of the controversy’ and ‘drama’ surrounding her.

    Feb 15, 2021
AceShowbiz – Claudia Conway is among the “American Idol” hopefuls in the new season of the ABC singing competition show. In the Sunday, February 14 season premiere, the daughter of former Donald Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway appeared in front of judges, hoping to impress them.
The 16-year-old opted to sing Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain” for her audition. However, it fell flat as the judges wanted her to sing another song and she then sang Adele’s “When We Were Young”. While Katy Perry and fellow judge Lionel Richie said yes to Claudia, her performance wasn’t convincing enough for Luke Bryan. The country singer thought the song only confirmed Claudia’s “limited” range. Despite that, she was voted throught the next round.
The episode also saw Claudia discussing her relationship with her mother, telling the judges that it was “iffy” and saying that she wanted to get away “from the drama.” She explained, “My parents are high profile political figures. My mother is Kellyanne Conway. She worked for Trump. And my dad’s George Conway. He worked against Trump.”
“It’s a lot,” she continued. “But you know, I only want to spread love, and I love a compromise, and I do disagree with my mom and dad… I had to move to Washington, D.C. when I was 12 and I hated it. When your mom is working for the President of the United States, who you very much disagree with, it’s really hard.”
Of her mom, who was accused of abusing her, Claudia said, “She loves me; I love her. I just feel like our relationship is a little iffy. Most of my life, my feelings have been suppressed. So then I got on social media, and I was like, ‘Well damn, now my voice is being heard.’ You know?”

She hoped by joining the show, she could “get out of the controversy, get out of the drama, get out of the politics… and let people know that I am a singer, and this is what I want to do.”
Katy then shared some advice for Claudia, “There’s a lot of noise in your life. You have to calm the storm that is around you. Meaning, before you sing, you need to get off your phone. You need to stop reading your comments. Push it aside. Because if not, you may not ever rise above your dad or your mom. It’s your choice.”
Accompanying the teen to her journey achieving her Hollywood dream was her father George, the founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project. He could be seen crying once he found out that his daughter advanced to the next round.

George wasn’t the only one who was happy for Claudia. Kellyanne made a surprise appearance by having a video call with her daughter. “I love you so much. I’m so proud of you,” the politician told Claudia. She concluded her message, “This is your time to shine. But remember, honey–winners are people who are willing to lose.”

Katy Perry Claims COVID-19 Gives 'American Idol' Hopefuls Chance to Chase Dreams

    Instagram

During an interview on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’, the ‘Roar’ hitmaker explains why she believes the singing competition show gains respect from other leading lights in the entertainment industry.

    Feb 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – Katy Perry insists the COVID-19 crisis has a silver lining – it’s given wannabe performers to chase their dreams.
The “American Idol” judge is currently at work on the latest season of the long-running talent show, which premieres on Valentine’s Day (February 14), and admits the latest talent pool, which emerged from a difficult 2020, is sweeter than ever.
“I think we’re all living in this weird, wild, crazy moment where a lot of our dreams have been put on hold,” the new mum explained during an appearance on “Live with Kelly & Ryan”, “and I think a lot of the contestants said to themselves, when they clicked a Zoom link to audition…, ‘I have nothing to lose’.”
“Because nothing is promised. We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow so (they think), ‘I’m just going to go and swing for my dreams’.”

“So that means the floodgates were open… Nobody was busy. They were just ready to take a hold of their dreams,” the “Dark Horse” singer added.

And she’s thrilled, too, that American Idol is really commanding respect from other leading lights in the entertainment industry.
“It (show) just keeps getting better and better,” she smiled. “I think people (in the business) trust us, and artists especially and real musicians especially, not just great singers but people with the whole package.”
“And that really is what defines an American Idol – because it’s not called American Singer. You’ve got to check so many different boxes and that’s what these kids are coming out and doing…”.

Kellyanne Conway's Daughter Claudia's 'American Idol' Audition Is Teased in a New Promo

    ABC

The 16-year-old, who has been making headlines for her drama with her politician mom, also takes to her TikTok account to share a video of her addressing her ‘American Idol’ appearance.

    Feb 9, 2021
AceShowbiz – People will get more of Claudia Conway this month. The daughter of Kellyanne Conway, former senior counselor to Donald Trump, is set to appear in new season 19 of “American Idol” that will premiere on Sunday, February 14.
In a clip that was released on Monday, February 8, the 16-year-old is seen taking the stage while admitting that she’s both “very nervous” and “very excited.” Introducing herself, she says, “I’m Claudia Conway. My parents are high-profile political figures.”
Meanwhile, judge Katy Perry is telling her, “We want an American idol.” It remains to be seen whether she says that in a good or bad situation.

Claudia also took to her TikTok account to share a video of her addressing her “American Idol” appearance. “I know that half the world sees me as a joke because of my parents and whatever bulls**t. I’m just a 16-year-old with passions, and you know, trying to figure out the future,” she told her 1.7M followers on the video-sharing platform.
“This is a really good opportunity. A really f***ing cool opportunity that I went with immediately, because if ‘American Idol’ reaches out to you, you don’t say no,” she said.
Claudia, who has been trolling her mom over her support for Trump, made headlines earlier this year after she suggested that she was being verbally abused by her mother Kellyanne. She also accused the politician of leaking her topless pic on Internet. She said that her mother must have gotten the snap from her personal phone when she confiscated her phone months ago. However, she assumed that Kellyanne could have accidentally posted it or someone hacked her phone.
The long-running drama between the mom-daughter duo also involved police at one point as Kellyanne was reportedly getting a police visit over abuse claims. In a January video, Claudia filmed her mom who told police about her, “She’s upset, she’s been upset for a week because we had a tough call with her school, I knew she had been upset.” Captioning the clip, Claudia wrote over the video, “guys she’s telling the police she is unsafe because she is getting threats. The facts!”

Carrie Underwood Confesses She Came Close to Ditch Her 'American Idol' Journey

    Instagram

When speaking about her experience on the singing competition, the season 4 winner recalls that she was left terrified after going through auditions and getting the ‘golden ticket’ to Hollywood.

    Nov 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Carrie Underwood almost quit “American Idol” in 2005 because she was so nervous onstage during the finals.
The singer went on to win the competition and became one of the most successful Idol stars, but she almost bailed on the TV contest.
“The summer before my senior year, I was home one day, watching TV and saw a news segment about people auditioning for the show ‘American Idol’ and I checked online,” she tells GuidePosts magazine. “The closest auditions were being held in St. Louis (Missouri). ‘How far away is St. Louis?’ I asked my mom. ‘Six or seven hours in the car’, she said. ‘Too far’, I thought. ‘Out of the question…'”

“It would be easy to say the rest is history, that it was meant to be. But it didn’t feel like that at the time.”
“Going through a slew of auditions in St. Louis, getting the ‘golden ticket’ to Hollywood, every contestant’s dream, I was terrified. Every time I had to sing in front of the judges I’d get nervous the way I did in church that first time. Then I’d say a prayer and leave it in God’s hands.”
“All at once it was just too much. Going out to Los Angeles by myself, competing with all these other people who were so talented. I burst into tears.”
Carrie’s father, who accompanied her to Hollywood, gave her an out following one tough audition: “My dad turned to me in the backseat (and said), ‘Carrie…, we can go home right now, and we don’t ever have to talk about it again’,” she recalls. “I took a deep breath. ‘No’, I said at last. ‘I’ll go’.”

  • Katy Perry Finds It Tough to Leave Baby Daisy as She Returns as Judge on 'American Idol'

    WENN

The ‘Smile’ singer admits to struggling being apart from her baby daughter as she is back to work as one of the judges on the upcoming season of the television singing competition.
    Oct 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Katy Perry found leaving newborn daughter Daisy home tough as she returned to work on the forthcoming season of “American Idol”.
The “Roar” star welcomed baby Daisy Dove with fiance Orlando Bloom in August (20) and, just over a month later, she’s already back to work on the U.S. TV talent show.
Speaking about her return to the small screen in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Katy admitted she struggled to leave Daisy and her new mum bubble behind.
“It’s amazing. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and for this job, and to be able to continue to inspire other people to go after their dreams,” she said.

“I mean, my life just feels very full and whole. And you know, it’s hard a little bit these first couple of days away and not being able to be there.”
However, Katy needn’t worry, as Orlando is well-versed in parenthood – given that he’s dad to nine-year-old son with ex-wife Miranda Kerr – and he’s keeping his wife-to-be updated by sending pictures as she gets busy at work.
“Daddy’s doing a great job. Daddy has stepped in,” she smiled. “I’ve seen the Bjorn (baby carrier) on him, I’ve seen him with the bottle, I’ve seen all the pictures. It’s all good.”
Katy previously slammed the “popular misconception” that “being a mom isn’t a full time job.” She explained on Twitter, “When a mom finally goes back to work (whatever profession they do) it’s not like they been coming from months of ‘time off…’ she’s coming from a full time job… of being a mom, lol.”
She urged fans to “call your mom and tell her you love and appreciate her and advocate for paid family leave,” before clarifying, “I love my job.”
