    Mar 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – “American Idol” returned on Sunday, March 29 with performances from the first half of the Top 40 in Hawaii. That night, some of them were sent home as the results of the judge’s final judgement.
Nick Merico was the first contestant to take the stage, singing Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man”. He impressed the judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, with their performance which eventually earned him a spot in Top 20.
Next Up was Makayla Brownlee, who had a seizure last week, with a performance of Ingrid Andress’s “More Hearts Than Mine” but it was unfortunately not enough to convince the judges as she was eliminated. Dewayne Crocker Jr. sang “Old Town Road” but put his own reggae twist on it. He joined Nick in Top 20.
Camryn Leigh-Smith sang “Break Every Chain” but was then sent home. Following it up was Devon Aleander, who opted to sing Demi Lovato’s “Tell Me Love You”. He was also eliminated alongside Jordan Jones and Geena. Later, the judges faced a hard moment to decide if they wanted to keep Louis Knight in the competition. They later decided to give him one more chance.

Katy Perry Sends Supportive Words to 'American Idol' Hopeful Suffering Seizure

    ABC

The ‘Roar’ hitmaker tweets that Makayla Brownlee has nothing to be embarrassed about after being moved to tears watching the aspiring singer beautifully covered Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Rainbow’.
    Mar 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – “American Idol” judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie rushed to the aid of contestant Makayla Brownlee after she abruptly walked off stage and fell to the ground backstage during her Hollywood Week audition.
During Monday’s episode of the TV talent contest, the singer took the stage for her solo performance in front of the famous trio, but cut her performance short and swiftly left the stage.
After collapsing to the ground, Perry, Bryan and Richie ran over to see what was happening, at which point on-site medical personnel were attending to Brownlee, and ambulances were called as she began to have a seizure.
“In seventh grade, I was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope,” Brownlee explained of the long-term ailment that she’s been dealing with for years, in an interview shot after the incident. “It’s a heart condition that causes me to react to stress differently than other people, and it could cause a seizure.”
“She can’t control it. She’s embarrassed, but physically, she’s 100 percent all right,” her father added. “This opportunity is so important for her. I’d hate to see it inhibited in any way because she’s such a good singer. She works so hard at it.”
Although it was unclear whether or not Brownlee would be able to return to perform, she later made her triumphant return, much to the excitement of the judges.
“Let’s try this again,” a noticeably calmer Brownlee told the judges with a smile, as Perry supportively replied, “You got this!”

The aspiring star went on to wow the judges with a powerful performance of Kacey Musgraves’ “Rainbow”, with “Roar” star Perry reduced to tears as she explained that Brownlee’s condition really puts things in perspective when it comes to being stressed out or tired, as they put her through to the next round.
“Nothing to be embarrassed about, #MakaylaBrownlee. We all handle stress differently,” the pop star wrote on Twitter as the episode was broadcast. “That was the sweetest performance of ‘Rainbow’ #MakalylaBrownlee. So thrilled you were able to come back and sing for us and give us that perspective we need to be reminded of sometimes.”

    ABC

The contestants are divided into three groups before the judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, announce which groups that will be heading to Hawaii.
    Mar 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – “American Idol” returned with a new episode on Monday, March 23. The episode marked the final night of Hollywood Week with Top 40 being announced at the end of the episode. Opening the night was Kimmy Gabriela, who sang “I’m Here” from “The Color Purple”, much to Katy Perry’s liking.
Later, Genavieve Linkowski followed it up with a stunning rendition of “In My Blood” by Shawn Mendes. Also offering an impressive performance was Jovin Webb who belted out Chris Stapleton’s “Parachute”. Perrin York, meanwhile, managed to get Katy to sing along with her as she sang “Good as Hell” by Lizzo.
The next singers were Faith Becnel and Jeb Vonderbruegge who performed Elmore James’ “Cry For Me Baby” and Elton John’s “Rocket Man” respectively. As for Arthur Gunn, he took the stage to once again perform the same song he sang at his auditions, “Have You Ever Seen The Rain?” He made a few alterations though, and the judges loved it.
That night, Robert Taylor, Amelia, Jimmy Levy and Julia Gargano sang original songs but the judges were not really impressed. However that wasn’t the case for Lauren Mascitti, who earned a standing ovation for her original song “God Made a Woman”.
Meanwhile, Makayla Brownlee, who has a heart condition that affects the way she reacts to stress, didn’t get to perform because she had to be taken to be looked by doctors. The auditions continued with a performance from Camryn Leigh Smith who sang “Always Remember Us This Way”. Devon Alexander and Lauren Spencer-Smith wowed Katy, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan with their performances. Later, Makayla returned and gave a solid performance of “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves.
After a few more performances, it was time for the big reveal. The contestants were divided into three groups. Room one had Johnny West, Arthur Gunn, Sophia Wackerman, Franklin Boone, Makayla Phillips, Kimmy Gabriela, Cyniah Elise and Lauren Mascitti among others. 'American Idol' Recap: Some Pairs Are Struggling in Duet Round of Hollywood Week

    ABC

The new episode of the NBC show sees the remaining contestants singing in duets with them choosing their own partner, though they still will be judged individually.
    Mar 23, 2020
AceShowbiz – “American Idol” returned on Sunday, March 22 with a new episode featuring another night of Hollywood Week. The episode saw the remaining contestants singing in duets with them choosing their own partner. Despite going in a pair, they would be judged individually.
The first pair to sing before judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie were Louis Knight and Francisco Martin. They opted to sing “Breakeven” by The Script but they didn’t kick it off perfectly as Francisco forgot some of the lyrics. Despite the struggle, both Louis and Francisco were moving onto the next round.
Following it up were Hannah Prestridge and Grace Leer, singing Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart”. While Grace was sent to the next round, Hannah was eliminated. Singing “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi were Jimmy Levy and Nick Merico. The stunning performance convinced the judges to keep them in the competition.
Isa Pena and Olivia Ximines, meanwhile, offered an impressive performance of Pink’s “Try” that unsurprisingly sent them both to the next round. Madison Paige was paired with Peyton Aldridge but they didn’t have the best chemistry. That resulted in Peyton messing up the performance, though fortunately they were given another chance to continue being on the show. They were not the only couple who struggled. Zack Dobbins and Courtney Timmons’ performance of “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande failed to impress the judges and they were eliminated.
Next up were Travis Finlay and Genavieve Linkowski, singing a beautiful rendition of “The Prayer”. The judges loved it and sent them to the next round. Real life couple, Kat Lopez and Alex Garrido, were later separated after the judges decided to only let Kat move to the next round following their duet of “You Say”.
Margie Mays and Jonny West then took the stage to sing “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” and they were barely moving on. Joining them in the next round were Cyniah Elise & Makayla Phillips and Lauren Spencer-Smith & Makayla Brownlee. Meanwhile, Tito Rey was eliminated though his partner Robert Taylor was moving on.
Concluding the night were Just Sam and Sheniel Masionet who put a solid performnce of Shawn Mendes’ “Mercy”. They were both moving to the next round.

'American Idol' Production Halted Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

    ABC

Contestants who had made it through the elimination rounds have been sent home to their families, as health officials urge people to stay indoors and practice social distancing.
    Mar 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Production has halted on the current season of “American Idol” amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
According to TVLine, contestants who had made it through the elimination rounds have been sent home to their families, as health officials urge people to stay indoors and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus.
It is believed production staff are working on the show remotely, with episodes expected to continue to air as scheduled up until the beginning of the live shows – which were slated to begin in mid-April (20), with judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and pregnant Katy Perry, and host Ryan Seacrest.
The decision follows similar moves from “America’s Got Talent”, which went dark last week after days of auditions without a live audience, and talk shows like “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, “Late Night with Seth Meyers”, and “The Wendy Williams Show”.
Covid-19 has also delayed production on several blockbuster movies, including “Jurassic World: Dominion” and “The Batman”, and has pushed the release of new James Bond movie “No Time to Die” and Disney’s “Mulan”, among others.
Globally, more than 198,900 cases of coronavirus have been registered, resulting in a death toll of over 7,900 since the outbreak began in December (19).
