  • Elton John Records Collaboration Single With Surfaces Through Zoom

    Instagram

Speaking about his music project with musical duo Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki, the ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker expresses his excitement over the unique experience.
    Jun 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rocker Elton John has experienced a career first after collaborating with rising musical duo Surfaces over video conferencing app Zoom.
Bandmates Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki recently teased fans about an upcoming “surprise” online, after sharing a screenshot of their video chat with Sir Elton, and now the “Rocket Man” hitmaker has revealed they came together remotely to record a new single.
Explaining how the project came about, the veteran musician posted on Twitter, “I heard their song ‘Sunday Best’ for the first time in Australia and liked it so much. Then @surfacesmusic reached out to me to ask if I would sing and play some piano on their new track, ‘Learn to Fly’…”.
“I loved the song and the production, so couldn’t say no! It was a unique experience to collaborate remotely over Zoom but these guys are terrific and we had a blast. The track is out this Friday and I can’t wait for you to hear it.”

In their own post announcing the single news, Frank and Padalecki reveal they had initially planned to release it sooner, but decided to postpone it until this week (June 12) in light of the global Black Lives Matter protests, demanding an end to racial injustice in response to the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minnesota last month.
Now, Surfaces have dedicated the tune to those in need of a little uplifting during troubled times.
“from the beginning we just wanted this song to be a breath of optimism for those who need it… and from the bottom of our hearts we hope this song will be a source of encouragement now more than ever,” they share in a note on social media.

“if you are broken, hurting, lost, or just going through it… this one’s for you.”

    WENN/STMC

The ‘Candle in the Wind’ hitmaker is still too sick to perform so he is forced to postpone his remaining New Zealand shows following his walking pneumonia diagnosis.
    Feb 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Elton John has postponed the final two shows of the New Zealand leg of his world tour after cutting a gig short due to suffering from walking pneumonia.
The 72-year-old was performing at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday, February 16, 2020 when he stopped the show almost two hours in, telling the audience, “I can’t sing… I’ve got to go. I’m sorry,” but had vowed to continue the tour as planned.
However, in a statement on Tuesday, he announced the shows at the same venue on Wednesday, February 19 and Thursday, February 20 would not go ahead after he consulted with his doctors – and would be pushed back until next year.
According to the website Stuff.co.nz, the rock legend said in a statement, “I’m incredibly disappointed to have to reschedule my remaining Auckland dates and I want to send my sincerest apologies to my amazing fans for any inconvenience caused.”
“I always want to be able to give 100 per cent and I’m afraid that, right now, I’m not able to do that. I am grateful for the love and loyalty I have been shown by all of you and I can’t wait to return in January next year to perform my final New Zealand shows.”
Promoter Michael Chugg said Elton was “devastated” to postpone the shows but he “has to listen to his doctors and recover properly right now.”
The Auckland shows have been rescheduled for and January 15 and 16 2021. The Rocket Man singer’s next concert on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road trek in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday is still going ahead as planned, pending further announcements.

Elton John, Nirvana and Sheryl Crow Confirmed to Have Masters Lost or Damaged in Universal Fire

    WENN/Lia Toby/Judy Eddy

Universal Music Group makes public the names of the 19 artists affected by the 2008 blaze, which ripped through one of its warehouses, as part of a class action lawsuit against the company.
    Feb 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Master recordings by artists including Elton John, Nirvana and Sheryl Crow are among those confirmed as “lost or damaged” by Universal Music Group (UMG) following a 2008 fire.
While the fire was believed to have affected the recordings, the extent of the damage was unknown. However, as part of a class action lawsuit against the company, UMG publicly confirmed the names of the 19 artists affected.
The list included Soundgarden, Beck, R.E.M., …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Bryan Adams, David Baerwald, Jimmy Eat World, Les Paul, Peter Frampton, Michael McDonald, Slayer, Sonic Youth, Suzanne Vega, The Surfaris, White Zombie and Y&T.
The names were confirmed by UMG during a discovery query in the lawsuit, with lawyers for the artists suing the musical organisation asking for a detailed breakdown of exactly what was affected by the fire.
The blaze ripped through one of the UMG’s warehouses, used for the storage of music and film reels dating back to the 1940s, in 2008, with news of the huge loss made public following an investigative report published in the New York Times last June (2019).
While UMG claim to have backups and copies of some of the recordings, they didn’t go into detail about what they did or didn’t have.
And Howard King, a lawyer for the artists behind the class action suit, was unimpressed by UMG’s reluctance to come clean with the exact figure of how many artists were affected.
“Universal claimed 17,000 artists were affected by the fire when they were suing for damages. Now that they face a lawsuit by their artists, they claim a mere 19 artists were affected. This discrepancy is inexplicable.”
Representatives for UMG and the 19 artists mentioned in the filing have yet to respond to the development.

Elton John Abruptly Cuts Off Concert Due to Massive Storm

    WENN/Lia Toby

The ‘Candle in the Wind’ hitmaker is escorted off the stage and evacuated by his crew while he’s in the middle of ‘Funeral for a Friend’ performance due to extreme weather.
    Feb 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Elton John was ushered off the stage by three of his assistants as a massive storm hit his show in Victoria, Australia on Friday, January 31, 2020 night.
The “Tiny Dancer” hitmaker is performing in the country as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road jaunt but, in footage shared online the singer, 72, fled the stage to avoid the downpour.
In a short clip, Elton is seen being ushered off stage, while a stagehand frantically covered a piano.
According to reports, Elton was playing his 1973 hit “Funeral for a Friend”, 95 minutes into his concert at Rochford Wines at Yarra Valley, Victoria, when hail and rain flooded the stage, causing the concert to be cancelled 15 minutes after Elton was ushered off.
Promoter Michael Chugg said the rain caused a shorted circuit in a statement, reported Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.
“Unfortunately due to tonight’s short but heavy downpour that occurred 95 minutes into Elton John’s set resulting in damage to musical instruments and monitors on stage, the show could not continue,” he said.
Despite the freak downpour, the show apparently began very differently, with the “Rocket Man” star himself even commenting, “It’s f**king hot. Thank you for buying a ticket to the show. We love doing it, even though it’s hot,” according to the Herald Sun newspaper.
