'Friends' Reunion Special Won't Get Planned May Release

    Warner Bros. Television

Though Matt LeBlanc recently shared that the original cast members had regrouped to film the reunion special before the coronavirus quarantine, it’s now reported that they will continue the production once the lockdown is over.
    Apr 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – The eagerly-anticipated “Friends” reunion special will not be debuting in May as previously planned.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer had all been due to make their sitcom comeback on the HBO Max show, which had been scheduled to launch at the same time as the new streaming service, where subscribers could find all of the classic comedy’s original episodes.
However, Hollywood’s shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has derailed production plans, officials have confirmed to Deadline.com.
A new premiere date has yet to be revealed, but once the lockdown comes to an end, network bosses plan to bring the castmembers together and return to Warner Bros. Studio’s Stage 24 in Burbank, California, where the original run was shot, to continue production on the show.
The news emerges days after LeBlanc suggested the gang had managed to regroup and film the one-off special before the COVID-19 outbreak really took hold and forced everyone into self-isolation.
“We got the band back together without the instruments,” he shared on a pre-recorded episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, which aired on Monday, April 06. “(It was) the six of us together, talking about the good old days.”

Courteney Cox: 'Friends' Reunion Special Is Going to Be Great

    NBC

In an episode of Kevin Nealon’s ‘Hiking with Kevin’, the actress known as Monica Geller on the hit sitcom expresses her excitement to get together with her co-stars once again.
    Feb 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Courteney Cox has revealed her excitement about the upcoming “Friends” reunion special, adding that she and her former castmates are “going to have the best time”.
It was confirmed earlier this month that Courteney and her co-stars – Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Matthew Perry – will be teaming up for a one-off TV special for upcoming streaming service HBO Max.
And speaking about the prospect of reuniting as she joined comedian Kevin Nealon for an episode of his “Hiking with Kevin”, Courteney gushed: “So the exciting thing is that we’re all going to get together for the first time, in a room, and actually talk about the show,” Cox said. “And it’s going to be on HBO Max, and I’m so excited.”
“We’re going to have the best time. It’s going to be great. But we really haven’t all done that and actually sat there and talked about and reminisced about this incredible experience that we had. It’s gonna be fantastic.”
Courteney also revealed that a recent reunion she and her former co-stars had enjoyed – a picture of which broke the internet when Jennifer shared it as her first post upon joining Instagram – was one of just two dinners they’d had with all six cast members present since the show came to an end in 2004.
“The ideal for me – and we just actually recently did this, and it took forever,” she smiled. “I don’t know how many years it was, maybe 15 years – and we finally all got together and had dinner. And when we get together, which is never – it just doesn’t happen very often, like twice since we ended the show – it’s just the most fun. We laugh so hard.”

The special will be directed by Ben Winston and executive produced by both the cast members and the series’ original creators, Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane, according to Variety.
An air date has yet to be announced.

'Friends' Reunion Special in the Works on HBO Max

    NBC

The announcement of the big news was made after stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and others post the same promotional photo of the cast of the popular series.
    Feb 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – It’s really happening! It has been revealed that the cast of “Friends” will be reprising their roles for a reunion special that is set for HBO Max.
The announcement of the big news was made on Friday, February 21 when stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer simultaneously posted the same promotional photo of the cast. “It’s happening….” they wrote in the caption.
Matt LeBlanc also teased the reunion special. However, instead of the same photo that others posted on their respective accounts, the Joey Tribbiani depicter shared a photo of the cast of 1970 CBS Korean war set medical drama “M*A*S*H”. “i don’t remember this episode of friends,” one confused fan said in the comment section. “Joey thats no the photo!!!!” one other added.

“Of curse. Of all the 5 actors, Joey/Matt is the one to post a completely random picture,” another fan noted. Meanwhile, someone wasn’t exactly surprised because “THIS IS SUCH A YOU THING IM LIVING FOR IT.”
The special, as well as all 236 episodes of “Friends”, will be available upon the streaming service’s debut. “Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, and truTV, in a statement.
“I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans,” he added.
Ben Winston is tapped to direct the special in addition to serving as executive produce alongside “Friends” executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. Also executive producing the special are Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry and Schwimmer with Emma Conway and James Longman on board as co-executive producers. Warner Bros. Unscripted & Alternative Television and Fulwell 73 Productions are behind the program.

    Feb 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – The long-awaited “Friends” special is reportedly moving forward, with the show’s original cast set to return.
According to Deadline, the hour-long special will help launch the upcoming streaming service HBO Max, which will also house the entire “Friends” library, which ran from 1994 to 2004.
A deal is apparently ready to be inked for the unscripted reunion special, with David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc all expected to return.
Each of the six stars will be paid between $3 (£2.3 million) and $4 million (£3.1 million) for the show, the publication reported.
Last month, chief content officer for HBO Max Kevin Reilly revealed of the project at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, “There’s interest all the way around, and yet we can’t seem to quite get that interest all aligned to push the button on it, so today, unfortunately, it’s still a maybe.”
Meanwhile, the cast of the show has been open about their interest in reuniting for a professional project, after keeping up with each other in their personal lives.
