    Instagram

According to one of the returning cast members David Schwimmer, the much-anticipated ‘Friends’ reunion will start shooting ‘in a little over a month’ after getting delayed due to pandemic.

    Mar 5, 2021
AceShowbiz – David Schwimmer has confirmed the “Friends” reunion will begin filming soon.
The actor has revealed the long awaited anniversary special of the iconic television series – which also features Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, and Courteney Cox – will finally start filming “in a little over a month” after being delayed from May 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, he said, “Oh, it’s happening. Actually, in a little over a month, I’m heading out to Los Angeles. So, finally, I mean, we figured out a way to film it safely, and there’s going to be a portion of it that we film outside because of, you know, for safety protocols.”

Meanwhile, Jennifer previously insisted the reunion special will be “even more exciting” because of the delay.
“Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again,” she said. “It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it … It’s going to be super.”
“You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed. Look, we’re not going anywhere. You’re never going to get rid of ‘Friends’, sorry. You’re stuck with us for life guys.”

It’s not clear if there will be an in-person audience, but once filming is officially wrapped, the Friends special will premiere on new U.S. streaming service HBO Max.
The news emerges two months after Aniston, Cox, and Kudrow regrouped to appear in a mini-Friends reunion skit at the Primetime Emmy Awards in September.

Details of the project are still kept under wraps, but Jennifer Aniston previously said the numerous delays happening due to pandemic only made the reunion even more exciting. “It’s going to be super,” she assured fans. “You know what? • Jane Sibbett: I Was Actually Up for Jennifer Aniston's 'Friends' Role

    WENN/Tony Oudot

Despite missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime, the actress who went on to portray Ross’ ex-wife Carol insists that ‘The Morning Show’ star was perfect for the part of Rachel Green.
    Sep 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Friends” star Jane Sibbett was initially offered the TV role that made Jennifer Aniston’s career.
The actress portrayed Carol, the ex-wife of David Schwimmer’s character Ross, on the beloved series, but reveals she was offered the role of Rachel Green early on in the casting process.
“I actually was up for another character,” she tells news.com.au. “They wanted me to be one of the main six. It was actually Rachel but I usually don’t tell people that because Jen… There’s no one who could’ve done it like Jen.”
But Sibbett had to decline the role after she fell pregnant with her second child. She now shares Ruby, 29, Kai, 26, and Violet, 20 with ex-husband Karl Fink.

“I asked them (the agents) if they’d told the producers I was pregnant (at the time) and they said, ‘Oh no, we thought we’d tell them later’. And I said, ‘No, you’ve got to tell them now’. So, obviously they (producers) said it wouldn’t work out.”
Despite missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime, she has no regrets, insisting Aniston was perfect for the part.
“There’s no way anybody could have come close to what Jennifer Aniston did with Rachel,” she adds. “She was so perfect.”
Sibbet was shocked after Anita Barone, who originally played Carol, quit suddenly and she was called in to replace her.
“So I got home from hospital after giving birth to my son and I got a phone call saying that they were replacing Carol and could I come to work the next day,” she shares. “Two days after I delivered my son he and I were on the set. I was in a milky haze. But it was funny. It was only supposed to be a two-week job, so I’m very grateful.”

AceShowbiz – Jennifer Aniston has assured fans the highly-anticipated “Friends” reunion special will happen, despite ongoing delays amid the Covid-19 crisis.
On Friday (07Aug20), producer Leo Pearlman told Deadline filming had been slated to begin in the next two weeks, but representatives from streamer HBO Max distanced themselves from the claims, with reports emerging that the show had been pushed to May 2021.
Insisting that the gathering, also featuring David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, and Lisa Kudrow will definitely happen, Jennifer told the publication, “Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again. It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it.”
While the star didn’t share any further details, she insisted the setback will give the cast and creatives a chance to work on the reunion more, adding, “It’s going to be super. You know what? This has also given us more time to make it even more exciting and more fun than it would have been. So I choose to see it as the glass is half-full that it got postponed.”

The reunion was scheduled to air as the new streaming service debuted earlier this summer (20).

'Friends' Co-Creator Tearfully Assumes Responsibility for Lack of Diversity on Show

    WENN/Nicky Nelson

After former star Lisa Kudrow stated that the series would not have had an ‘all-white cast’ today, Marta Kauffman admits during the virtual 2020 ATX Television Festival that she ‘didn’t do enough.’
    Jun 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman struggled to hold back her tears as she admitted she “didn’t do enough” to promote diversity within the television industry.
The 63-year-old writer made the confession as she opened the virtual 2020 ATX Television Festival on Sunday (June 07), telling viewers, “I wish I knew then what I know today.”
As her eyes filled with tears, Marta continued, “Sorry, I just wish I knew then what I know now. I would’ve made very different decisions. I mean we’ve always encouraged people of diversity in our company, but I didn’t do enough and now all I can think about is what can I do? What can I do differently? How can I run my show in a new way? And that’s something I not only wish I knew when I started showrunning, but I wish I knew all the way up through last year.”
Marta’s admission comes after “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow recently opened up about the lack of diversity on the show, which ran from 1994 to 2004, insisting that had the show aired today, it wouldn’t have had an “all-white cast.”
One of the only black characters in the show was David Schwimmer’s character Ross Geller’s girlfriend, palaeontology professor Charlie Wheeler, played by Aisha Tyler.
And David admitted during an interview with Britain’s The Guardian newspaper that Charlie was introduced after a push from him for more diversity on the program.
“I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color,” he said. “One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.”

'Friends' Reunion Special Eyeing End of Summer Filming After Delay Caused by Coronavirus

    Warner Bros. Television

WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt insists that the team is still trying to ‘get this thing done in a more conventional way’ instead of doing it on a web call.
    May 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – The “Friends” reunion special could film at the end of the summer, according to WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt.
The get together was supposed to be available on HBO Max on 27 May – the launch date for the streaming service – but the coronavirus crisis shut down production and there have been conflicting reports about how much was completed.
Matt LeBlanc suggested the reunion had been filmed during a recent taped appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, which aired days before the entire “Friends” cast offered up tickets for a live taping of the show as part of an All-In Challenge charity raffle online.
Now, Greenblatt has made it clear there’s nothing in the can and the special is months away.
“At first we thought, shows will be delayed for a month or two at the most, and now it seems like it’s going to be far longer than that,” he tells Variety. “We’re holding out for being able to get this special done hopefully by the end of the summer, if the stars align, and hopefully we can get back into production.”
“We do think there’s a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didn’t want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms…”
“We’re trying to look to the future and get this thing done in a more conventional way, and I think it’s worth waiting for. We would have loved to have had it on HBO Max on Day One.”
Jennifer Aniston, LeBlanc, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer are all set to return for the event.

'Friends' Cast to Air Special 'Rehearsal' Ahead of Official Reunion

    Instagram

An online meeting where the cast are discussing ideas for the upcoming HBO reunion is expected to air to tide fans over until the coronavirus outbreak dies down.
    Apr 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – The eagerly-anticipated “Friends” reunion special could take place virtually over video conference app Zoom, according to new reports.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer had all been due to make their sitcom comeback on the HBO Max show, which had been scheduled to launch at the same time as the new streaming service, where subscribers will be able to find all of the classic comedy’s original episodes.
However, Hollywood’s shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic has derailed production, officials have confirmed to Deadline.com.

While the new premiere date has yet to be revealed, reports have suggested that Courteney and reunion director Ben Winston have captured footage through Zoom, which be turned into a special additional episode to tide fans over until pandemic restrictions are lifted.
“As soon as filming was cancelled, everyone started panicking as it took so long to get their schedules to align, there was a deep fear it may take a year or even longer to get them all back together again,” a source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper.
“Courteney immediately set up a Zoom meeting for them and they all logged on to discuss ideas – brain-storming and bringing in the producers for a session which they called a mock rehearsal and chatted for almost two hours,” they said. “Their Zoom sessions have been brilliant fun, and there’s some hilarious material on there which they hope can be aired as either a series of teasers, or even a stand-alone special.”
LeBlanc previously suggested the gang had managed to regroup and film the one-off special before the Covid-19, telling “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, “(It was) the six of us together, talking about the good old days.”
“Friends” aired for 10 seasons, concluding its decade-long run in 2004.
