Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Demi Lovato Bring Optimism in TV Special 'Celebrating America'

The ‘Daisy’ singer oozes pride while performing ‘Firework’ from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, while the ‘Commander in Chief’ songstress shows off amazing vocals with her rendition of ‘Lovely Day’.

    Jan 21, 2021
AceShowbiz – The celebration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration continued Wednesday night, January 20 with a TV special “Celebrating America”. Hosted by Tom Hanks, the show featured performances from the likes of Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Demi Lovato among others in remote places.
As the final performer of the night, Katy oozed pride as she sang her hit “Firework” from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial while pyrotechnics bursting behind the Washington Memorial illuminated the sky. She was wearing a Thom Browne all-white cashmere coat, satin corset and floor-length skirt.
While the “Teenage Dream” hitmaker belted out the song, there’s footage of President Joe Biden with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris with second gentleman Doug Emhoff standing on balconies overlooking the firework display over Washington, D.C.

Justin, meanwhile, teamed up with Ant Clemons for an uplifting performance of their collaboration “Better Days”. Singing from inside the iconic Stax Records in Memphis, the duo took it to the streets mid-song while being backed by a socially distanced band in an empty Memphis intersection.

Demi also brought a sense of optimism with her powerful rendition of “Lovely Day” from Los Angeles. Wearing a beige power suit, she performed in a studio with screens displaying the faces of famous people like Lin-Manuel Miranda and many health and essential workers being seen in the background.
In between the “Commander-in-Chief” songstress’ performance, the camera cut to show Biden holding his grandson Beau in his arms, as he, wife Jill and his family watched the televised special from what looks like a room in the White House.

Specific details regarding the year-long events, titled P25 Music, have not been released, but it’s being launched in collaboration with label officials at Universal Music Group.

“It is an honor to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world.”
Perry, who welcomed daughter Daisy with fiance Orlando Bloom in August (20), even paid a visit to The Pokemon Cafe during her last trip to Japan in 2019.
“I was pregnant when I was there actually, little did I know!” she laughed to People.com. “It was amazing. It brought up all these wonderful childhood memories. I’ve been going to Japan since I was 17 every year and have always really loved everything that’s been created there.”
And the pop star hopes the new partnership will give Pokemon fans something to look forward to this year after a tough 2020.
“In this moment of unknown, there are dependable places and characters and institutions and people, and I hope I can be one of them,” she said. “That’s what I hope for in my personal self, and even in my involvement with this collab (sic).”

Katy Perry's 'Not the End of the World' Video Places Zooey Deschanel in a Case of Mistaken Identity

    Instagram

On the day the promo for the new single is released, the ‘Daisies’ singer and the ‘New Girl’ star get together on Instagram to exchange stories about being mistaken for the other.

    Dec 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actress Zooey Deschanel has been abducted by aliens in Katy Perry’s new music video.
The singer has recruited her celebrity lookalike to join her in the promo for “Not the End of the World”, which dropped on Monday, December 21.
In the fun footage, Perry is shown taking her baby girl for a walk in the park, where she crosses paths with Deschanel – prompting extra terrestrials searching for the new mum to accidentally nab the “New Girl” star instead.
Deschanel desperately tries to convince the aliens she is not actually Perry, before giving up and playing along, dressing up in a variety of the pop star’s famed costumes and wigs, including her whipped cream bra from the California Gurls visual, as she learns the other-worldly visitors had actually saved her from their plan to destroy Earth.
The actress eventually manages to save the planet – by pulling the plug on their Internet – and celebrates by performing “Not The End of the World” for Perry’s alien fans.

The stars teamed up to discuss the fun project on Instagram on launch day, as they exchanged stories about being mistaken for the other.
“For so long, we’ve had this funny friendship, because obviously people think we look alike,” Perry said, as Deschanel exclaimed, “I’ve had full conversations with people where they think I was you!”

However, Perry then confessed to once pretending to be the Elf actress to enjoy the celebrity perks of life in Los Angeles.
“When I first got to L.A., I went to the club a lot, and I wanted to get into the club, and I had no money, and no clout,” she shared. “I had nothing. Sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club.”
The news wasn’t a complete surprise to Deschanel, who replied, “Well, I know this. People would say, ‘I saw you,’ but I’m such a goody-two-shoes (I didn’t tell them)!”

“American Idol” judge Katy dropped her latest LP, “Smile”, earlier this year (20).
It’s a collection of songs that offered a glimpse into her personal journey to rediscover herself. “It’s been two-and-a-half years of trying to find my footing. It’s so easy for me to work, work, work and avoid, but I had to go on a mental and spiritual journey,” she said in an interview.
The singer took a break after the album release as she gave birth to her first child with fiance Orlando Bloom.
She has since been back to work, but she admitted it was hard to leave baby Daisy home. “It’s amazing. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and for this job, and to be able to continue to inspire other people to go after their dreams,” she said. “I mean, my life just feels very full and whole. And you know, it’s hard a little bit these first couple of days away and not being able to be there.”

Dave Stewart Told Katy Perry Not to Try Too Hard After Debut Album Flop

    WENN

The Eurythmics star recalls the ‘I Kissed a Girl’ hitmaker reaching out to him to seek help to produce a hit after her Christian rock-inspired album flopped.

    Nov 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Katy Perry’s breakout hit “I Kissed a Girl” was inspired by a conversation with Eurythmics star Dave Stewart.
The British star reveals he worked with the relatively unknown Perry at his studio in Surrey, England, and it was during that period he urged her to write the 2008 single from her album, “One of the Boys”.
According to Stewart, the singer was looking to kickstart her pop career after her first solo album, the Christian rock-inspired “Katy Hudson”, was a commercial failure.
She turned to the “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” star in hopes of producing a hit – but, according to Stewart, she was trying too hard to strike gold.

“You know a lot of young songwriters, they start off trying to write a song about the world and they try to fit everything into the song,” he tells Deep Hidden Meaning Radio With Nile Rodgers on Apple Music 1.
“And I said, ‘You should just write about whatever you’re feeling and things that happened that blew your mind.’ ”
Perry allegedly quickly shot back, “I kissed a girl and I liked it,” to which he told the star, “You’re talking my language there!”
“I Kissed a Girl” has gone on to become the 10th best-selling single of the 21st century.
Ten years later in a 2018 interview, she regretted the stereotypes in the song. “We’ve really changed, conversationally, in the past 10 years,” she told Glamour. “We’ve come a long way. Bisexuality wasn’t as talked about back then, or any type of fluidity. If I had to write that song again, I probably would make an edit on it. Lyrically, it has a couple of stereotypes in it. Your mind changes so much in 10 years, and you grow so much. What’s true for you can evolve.”
