Morgan Wallen Let Go by Booking Agency After ACM Declared His Ineligibility Following Racial Slur

    Instagram

The ‘7 Summers’ hitmaker has been dealing with the fallout of his N-word use since a video of him hurling profanities following a rowdy night out was brought out to light.

    Feb 5, 2021
AceShowbiz – More bad news have hit Morgan Wallen in the fallout of his racial slur controversy. Shortly after the Academy of Country Music declared his ineligibility in the upcoming 56th annual ACM Awards, the “7 Summers” hitmaker is reported to have been dropped by talent-booking agency William Morris Endeavor (WME).
A so-called representative for WME confirmed the removal of Wallen as its client to several publications, including The Hollywood Reporter. The booking agency itself has yet to release its official statement about its move in dropping the rising country music star from its rooster.
Wallen has been facing repercussions for his use of the N-word after a video of him hurling profanities following a rowdy night out surfaced. He was quick to express remorse, telling TMZ, “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Despite Wallen’s swift apology, Cumulus Media issued an order to its 400-plus stations to remove his music. iHeartRadio and CMA has since followed suit. The controversy also led to removal of his music from Spotify’s Hot Country Songs and Apple Music’s Today’s Country playlists, and cost him airplay on the Viacom-owned channel Country Music Television.

Before the racial slur, Wallen was well on his way to have his album “Dangerous: The Double Album” topping the Billboard Hot 200 chart for four week in a row, which will set a record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 for a country artist since Garth Brooks in the late ’90s. Unfortunately, the incident prompted his label Big Loud Records to suspend his contract indefinitely.
On Wednesday night, February 3, the ACM announced its move to ban Wallen from this year’s awards show. “The Academy of Country Music will halt Morgan Wallen’s potential involvement and eligibility for this year’s 56th Academy of Country Music Awards cycle. We have made his management team aware of this decision,” its statement read.

“The Academy does not condone or support intolerance or behavior that doesn’t align with our commitment and dedication to diversity and inclusion,” the organization continued. “As a result of this unprecedented situation, the Academy will be reviewing our awards eligibility and submission process, ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy’s integrity.”

Maren Morris and More Condemn Morgan Wallen as ACM Rules Him Ineligible for 2021 Awards

    Instagram

A number of country music stars have spoken out and the Academy of Country Music officials block the ‘Dangerous’ star from this year’s awards following his N-word scandal.

    Feb 4, 2021
AceShowbiz – Maren Morris and Jason Isbell have joined the ranks of the country music stars bashing Morgan Wallen for using a racial slur on camera.
The singer has apologised for carelessly uttering the N-word during a night out on Sunday (31Jan21), but it’s too little too late for some – the singer, who is currently at the top of the U.S. albums chart, has been suspended from his record deal and his music has been pulled from radio stations.
Black country star Mickey Guyton and Kelsea Ballerini have already slammed Wallen, and now Morris is weighing in, calling out the country music industry’s executives for supporting the controversial star, who last year (20) was forced to pull out of a performance on “Saturday Night Live” following an ill-advised maskless appearance at a party.
The “My Church” singer blasts, “It actually IS representative of our town because this isn’t his first ‘scuffle’ and he just demolished a huge streaming record last month regardless. We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word. We keep them rich and protected at all costs with no recourse.”
Meanwhile, Isbell rages, “Wallen’s behavior is disgusting and horrifying. I think this is an opportunity for the country music industry to give that spot to somebody who deserves it, and there are lots of black artists who deserve it.”

In his apology, Wallen told TMZ, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
Cassadee Pope has also spoken out, tweeting, “Let me reiterate. The news about Morgan that broke does not represent ‘ALL’ of country music. As you can see, it represents some. It’s disgraceful has to change (sic).”
Meanwhile, Academy of Country Music officials have ruled the singer ineligible for this year’s awards show.
The ACM announced its decision on Wednesday afternoon, stating, “The Academy does not condone or support intolerance or behavior that doesn’t align with our commitment and dedication to diversity and inclusion… As a result of this unprecedented situation, the Academy will be reviewing our awards eligibility and submission process, ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy’s integrity.”
Wallen’s music can still be found on Spotify and Apple Music, but he has been removed from every playlist except his own. CMT and the Country Music Association have also taken Wallen-related content off their platforms.

    WENN

The ‘Dangerous’ musician has become a hot potato following racial slur controversy as his label bosses decide to suspend him ‘indefinitely’ and top TV networks remove his music and videos.

    Feb 4, 2021
AceShowbiz – Singer Morgan Wallen has been suspended “indefinitely” by his record label bosses and had his music and videos removed from top radio and TV networks in light of his racial slur controversy.
The country newcomer, who just secured his third week atop the U.S. chart with his “Dangerous: The Double Album” release, hit headlines late on Tuesday (02Feb21]”) after TMZ obtained video footage of Wallen using the N-word as he arrived back at his Nashville, Tennessee home on Sunday following a night out with friends.
He issued a public apology to People.com, admitting he’s “embarrassed and sorry” for using the “unacceptable and inappropriate” language, adding, “There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.”
However, the scandal quickly prompted chiefs at iHeartRadio and Cumulus Media to remove the rising star’s songs from their stations, while he was also ditched from Spotify’s Hot Country Songs and Apple Music’s Today’s Country playlists.
Now executives at independent firm Big Loud Records, to which Wallen is signed, have suspended his contract, with the backing of Republic Records officials, who distributed Dangerous.

A company statement reads, “In the wake of recent events, Big Loud Records has made the decision to suspend Morgan Wallen’s recording contract indefinitely.”
“Republic Records fully supports Big Loud’s decision and agrees such behavior will not be tolerated.”
And Wallen’s actions have also cost him airplay on the Viacom-owned channel Country Music Television.

Artist of the Week: Morgan Wallen

Straight off his CMA big win as New Artist of the Year, the ‘More Than My Hometown’ crooner is ascending the country music charts with two of his new singles.

    Nov 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Hot on the heels of his big win as the best New Artist of the Year at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, Morgan Wallen is climbing up the charts with two of his new singles. “Somebody’s Problem” has risen to the second position on the U.S. Apple Music chart while “Still Goin Down” has reached the third place.
Both songs are expected to continue their ascend if the singer’s chart history is any indication – he topped country single charts with his two previous singles “More Than My Hometown” and “7 Summers”. All those tracks were taken from his upcoming sophomore effort called “Dangerous: The Double Album”.

The new album is due to came out in January next year. It features a collaboration with fellow country star Chris Stapleton and includes a country version of “Heartless”, Wallen’s previous collaboration with Diplo, which has been certified triple platinum for selling more than three million units in sales and streams.
Wallen offers 30 songs in his latest studio offering. “The ‘double album’ idea started off as just a joke between me and my manager because we had accumulated so many songs over the past couple of years,” he explained. “Then quarantine hit, and we realized it might actually be possible to have enough time to make it happen.”
While the CMA award was a big celebration for Wallen, it has also inspired him to work harder as he knows it’s only the beginning of his journey to make his mark in the industry. Describing the win as “a kick in the rear toward the top,” he said, “I’ve had a lot of really good things happen this year, and a lot of things I wouldn’t consider good, but I’d put this at the top of the good list for sure.”

  • 'SNL' Boss Promises to Invite Morgan Wallen Another Time After Dropping Him Due to Covid-19 Concerns

    WENN

Lorne Michaels makes it clear that he didn’t hold a grudge against Morgan Wallen as he promises to give him another chance after dropping him from upcoming ‘Saturday Night Live’ show.
    Oct 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Saturday Night Live” boss Lorne Michaels will give country singer Morgan Wallen a second chance in the near future after losing his spot as this weekend’s musical guest.
Wallen had been due to make his performance debut on the iconic New York-based comedy series on Saturday (10Oct20), but hit headlines at the beginning of the week after social media footage emerged of the maskless musician partying with fans and kissing random girls following a University of Alabama football game on 3 October.
His inability to follow COVID-19 safety protocols ahead of the in-studio taping cost him the coveted “SNL” gig, prompting Wallen to issue a public apology for his behaviour in an emotional video on Wednesday.

However, “SNL” creator and producer Michaels isn’t holding the 27 year old’s mistake against him, and has promised to invite him back to perform at another time.
Reflecting on his decision to drop Wallen from this weekend’s line-up, Michaels told U.S. breakfast show Today, “He isn’t the first country singer, or the first person from rock and roll who partied after a big, in that case a football game, or a concert, but we’re just living in different times and everything’s scrutinised.”
Rocker Jack White has been recruited to serve as the musical guest on Saturday, when comedian Bill Burr will host.
After “At Home” edition during lockdown earlier this year, the NBC sketch show returns to studio this new season with Chris Rock as a host and Megan Thee Stallion as a musical guest on the first episode. Jim Carrey is enlisted to play Joe Biden, Maya Rudolph is back as Kamala Harris, and Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump.
