John Mulaney Finds Himself Investigated by Secret Service Over 'SNL' Monologue

    WENN/Joseph Marzullo

Months after his guest stint on ‘Saturday Night Live’, the ‘Big Mouth’ funnyman discloses that the official examining him was very understanding that his joke had nothing to do with Donald Trump.

    Dec 3, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedian John Mulaney was investigated by U.S. Secret Service agents earlier this year (20) after cracking a joke apparently referencing President Donald Trump.
The “Big Mouth” funnyman returned to his old stomping grounds at iconic New York sketch show “Saturday Night Live” in February to serve as a guest host, but one quip he made during his opening monologue landed him on the radar of federal law enforcement officers.
“In February, I did a joke that was not about Donald Trump,” Mulaney explained on U.S. talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday, December 01.
“The joke was about how it was a leap year, and leap year had been started by Julius Caesar to correct the calendar, and another thing that happened with Caesar was that he was stabbed to death by a bunch of senators because he went crazy. And I said I think that’s an interesting thing that could happen.”

Luckily, Mulaney’s decision not to directly name Trump in the monologue proved pivotal to the Secret Service investigation, and as they failed to find any “manifestos” or “rants” written by the comic aimed at the Republican leader, he was dismissed as a possible threat to national security.
“The person vetting me was very understanding that the joke had nothing to do with Donald Trump because it was an elliptical reference to him,” Mulaney said. “I didn’t say anything about him. In terms of risk assessment, no one who’s ever looked at me thought I registered above a one.”

He added, “I said I have been making jokes about him (Trump) since 2007, so I have been making fun of him for 13 years. They said if it’s a joke, then I am cleared by the Secret Service.”
Mulaney isn’t the first comedian to face a Secret Service grilling thanks to a Trump joke – Kathy Griffin infamously faced a backlash in 2017 after sharing a photo of herself holding a bloodied, decapitated replica of the president’s head online, which led to a two-month federal investigation for conspiracy to assassinate the Commander-in-Chief, before she was eventually cleared.

Alec Baldwin 'Overjoyed' to Stop Playing Donald Trump

    NBC/Will Heath

The 62-year-old ‘The Boss Baby: Family Business’ star also shares a black-and-white picture of him as the defeated presidential candidate who brings a paper sign with ‘You’re Welcome!!!’ written on it.

    Nov 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Most people were rejoicing when Joe Biden was declared as the new president of the United States, dethroning Donald Trump. Alec Baldwin was among those people, but he had another reason why he was “overjoyed” following the announcement of the results of November 3 presidential election.
On Saturday, November 7, the “The Boss Baby: Family Business” actor tweeted, “I don’t believe I’ve ever been this overjoyed to lose a job before!” Alec was referring to his role as POTUS on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live”. With Donald’s defeat, he doesn’t have to impersonate the businessman-turned-to-president, whom Alec openly dislikes, again.

Alec Baldwin was ‘overjoyed’ to stop playing Donald Trump on ‘SNL’.
In another tweet, the 62-year-old star shared a black-and-white picture of him as Donald, who brought a paper sign with “You’re Welcome!!!” written on it. “It’s been fun,” Alec simply captioned the snap.

The actor shaded Donald on Twitter.
He went on shading Donald in a follow-up tweet. “It will be comforting when we have a President who doesn’t Tweet twice as much as I do … They’re gonna need an enormous shipment of tissues sent to Mar-a-Lago … On to my next wish. That everyone who voted in this election maintains that commitment and votes in the 2022 midterm elections. Let’s keep this going!!!” he said.
The election outcome was called by major media outlets on Saturday, just hours before a new episode of “SNL” featuring Alec’s Donald aired. “As anyone who died halfway through Tuesday knows, I was re-elected president of the United States,” he said.
Meanwhile, “SNL” cast member Gary Kroeger talked about Alec’s long-running performance in the episode, which was hosted by Dave Chappelle. “I won’t miss Baldwin’s Trump at all,” Gary said. “That doesn’t mean I didn’t like it, I did, and still do, but there hasn’t been a new twist on his characterization in a couple of years. How could there be? It was done to death.”
Alec snagged a Primetime Emmy award in 2017 for the role.

Dave Chappelle Slams White People for Refusing to Wear Masks in 'SNL' Monologue

    NBC

The funnyman kicks off ‘Saturday Night Live’ by taking a dig at ‘white’ people for refusing to wear masks amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic because it’s ‘oppressive.’

    Nov 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Funnyman Dave Chappelle has hit out at Donald Trump’s white supporters who don’t wear masks during the coronavirus pandemic.
While hosting “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) this weekend (07Nov20), the comedian fired at complaints that face masks are “oppressive” while giving them a lesson in Black history.
“You don’t even want to wear your mask because it’s oppressive? Try wearing the mask I’ve been wearing all these years!” Dave said. “I can’t even tell something true unless it has a punchline behind it. You guys aren’t ready. You’re not ready for this. You don’t know how to survive yourselves.”
“In fact, we’re the only ones that know how to survive this,” he continued, adding, “Whites come, hurry, quick, come get your n***a lessons.”

Elsewhere in the show, Alec Baldwin reprised his famed imitation of U.S. leader Donald Trump to imagine his concession speech after Democratic nominee Joe Biden beat him to become the 46th POTUS.
As Trump, Alec started off his speech by claiming that he was re-elected as president, saying, “As anyone who died halfway through Tuesday knows, I was re-elected president of the United States.”
During the skit, he pointed to a map of the U.S. and boasted about how red the states were – only to realise it was a Covid map and not representative of his Republican party.

He then chanted, “Stop the count!” until he was told off-screen that he was actually behind, to which he started chanting, “Count every vote.”

  • Adele Faces Backlash Over African Sex Tourism Sketch on 'SNL'

    NBC

The ‘Chasing Pavement’ hitmaker and ‘Saturday Night Live’ come under fire for doing a sketch about African sex tourism during her first hosting gig on the show.

    Oct 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Adele and “Saturday Night Live” landed in hot water. They were criticized over a sketch intended to poke fun at sex tourism. In the skit, the “When We Were Young” hitmaker along with “SNL” regulars Kate McKinnon and Heidi Gardner played White divorcees thirsting over African men.
They invited fans to visit Africa as they made comments full of sexual innuendo about the African men. The female trio described the local males as “tribesmen” and “massive bamboos” while shirtless Black male extras were seen accompanying white women on a beach in the background.
The parody which described Africa as “the number one destination for divorcees of a certain age” was deemed insensitive, inappropriate, and ill-timed amid the ongoing EndSARS protests taking place in Nigeria.

“That Africa skit was tone def, insensitive and inappropriate,” tweeted Shenequa Golding, a journalist at R&B news website Vibe. “Men and women in Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa and The Democratic Republic of the Congo are fighting for their lives and to reduce the continent as sexual destination for white women is shameful.”
MTV host Dometi Pongo made similar comments, “If you’re gonna try to touch that, it’s gotta be just a little smarter & more nuanced or don’t touch it at all. Not (right now).”
Another person wrote, “@Adele, babes have u no idea whats going on in Africa?. Surly u have African friends who can educate you. #SNL jokes were tasteless and the wrong time babe. #smh! Bring out that album instead.”
Neither Adele nor “SNL” issued any comments about the controversial sketch which aired last weekend. The episode featuring musical performer by H.E.R. marked Adele’s first time-ever as a host on the NBC show despite her previous visits as a musical guest.

    Oct 26, 2020

The 32-year-old “Someone Like You” hitmaker hosted the sketch comedy show live from New York City, with the Brit remembering her first appearance on the show 12 years ago, calling it her “big break” in the United States, during her monologue.
She also gave a special shout-out to Sarah Palin, who appeared on that same episode, and went on to provide an update on her next album – the follow-up to 2015’s “25”.
“My album is not yet finished… I’d rather put on some wigs, have a glass of wine or six and just see what happens,” laughed the hitmaker.
Adele also addressed her incredible weight loss, quipping, “I know I look really really different since you last saw me but, actually, because of all the Covid restrictions and the travel bans, I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”

Elsewhere in the show, the 32-year-old played herself competing in a The Bachelor-themed sketch, during which she randomly started breaking out in songs, singing her hits including “When We Were Young” and “Hello”.
“Hi I’m Adele Adkins, I’m 32,” she said in the skit. “You may know me as the singer Adele. I’m here because I’ve had a lot of heartbreak in my life.”

  • Kanye West Fires Back at Issa Rae After She Disses Him on 'Saturday Night Live'

    WENN

The ‘Gold Digger’ rapper is not amused by the ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch where the ‘Insecure’ actress dropped F bomb when making unfavorable comments about him.

    Oct 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kanye West has blasted “Saturday Night Live” writers for using black comedians and guests to hold African-Americans back after he became the butt of a skit featuring Issa Rae over the weekend.
The “Insecure” star, who was hosting the show, appeared in a sketch as a lawyer representing civil rights group the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on a morning talk show.
When asked about the political candidates she favours in the upcoming U.S. state and major elections, her character said she was “voting for everybody black,” adding, “For too long, our people’s voices have not been heard. It’s our duty to stand together and take our power back.”
In the scene, she stood up for a black Republican billionaire, an inexperienced first-time politician, and two crazy out-of-work women attempting to run on the same ticket, but when “SNL” regular Kenan Thompson, who was playing the show’s anchor, said, “When we come back, we’ll talk about the presidential race between Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Kanye West,” Rae’s character responded, “Kanye? F him!”
West, who is running as an independent presidential candidate, didn’t find the sketch funny and took to Twitter to respond, taking aim at SNL’s writers and regulars for attacking black cultural figures on the show.

“Ive (sic) always said SNL uses black people to hold other black people back,” he wrote. “My heart goes out to Issa Rae. I’m praying for her and her family.”
“I know that the twenty years of service that I’ve paid in the entertainment field has furthered our ability to be more successful.”
He also posted a screenshot of a Google search for Rae, suggesting her career has been aided by his success.

His tweet comes a day after Kanye released new song “Nah Nah Nah”, in which he raps about his bid to become the next President of the United States.

  • 'SNL': Kate McKinnon Breaking Character on 'Weekend Update' Is Gold Moment

    NBC/Will Heath

The new episode also touches on J.K. Rowling’s controversial transphobic remarks as cast member Pete Davidson calls out the ‘Harry Potter’ author in one of the skits.
    Oct 12, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Saturday Night Live” returned with a new episode on Saturday, October 10. The new episode of the long-running NBC comedy series featured stand-up comedian Bill Burr as the host opening up with simultaneous spoofs of the vice presidential debate and the movie “The Fly”, poking fun at Mike Pence’s infamous FlyGate.
Later on the “Weekend Update”, Colin Jost tackled President Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis. He was then joined by “Dr. Wayne Weknowdis”, played by Kate McKinnon, who shared a second opinion on Trump’s medical examination.
    [embedded content]
She repeatedly said the phrase “we know this,” before eventually breaking her character. Both Kate and Colin laughed at the flub with the latter asking her, “Kate are you okay?” to which she replied, “Obviously, I’m not.”

“It’s such a crazy time and this is something I started doing to cope,” Kate added. “It’s refreshing to play a character who ‘know this.’ ” Later, Colin said, “I know that it’s very stressful. I know this is very hard right now. I know people are being very resilient about it. I know even though it doesn’t seem good, don’t worry. You can figure this out, we can do this.”
    [embedded content]
The episode also touched on J.K. Rowling’s controversial transphobic remarks. In one of the skits, cast member Pete Davidson called out the “Harry Potter” author for the scandal, calling it “very disappointing.” He remarked, “I got a Harry Potter tattoo years ago, ’cause I’m not psychic… I didn’t know J.K. Rowling was going to go all Mel Gibson on us.”
    [embedded content]
“I long for a few years ago when the worst things she did were those ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies. No discrimination there, they harmed us all equally,” he went on saying. “What’s wrong with her? She creates a seven-book fantasy series about all types of mythical creatures living in harmony with wizards and elves and the one thing she can’t wrap her head around is Laverne Cox? She’s a national treasure!”
