  • 'SNL' Boss Promises to Invite Morgan Wallen Another Time After Dropping Him Due to Covid-19 Concerns

    WENN

Lorne Michaels makes it clear that he didn’t hold a grudge against Morgan Wallen as he promises to give him another chance after dropping him from upcoming ‘Saturday Night Live’ show.
    Oct 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Saturday Night Live” boss Lorne Michaels will give country singer Morgan Wallen a second chance in the near future after losing his spot as this weekend’s musical guest.
Wallen had been due to make his performance debut on the iconic New York-based comedy series on Saturday (10Oct20), but hit headlines at the beginning of the week after social media footage emerged of the maskless musician partying with fans and kissing random girls following a University of Alabama football game on 3 October.
His inability to follow COVID-19 safety protocols ahead of the in-studio taping cost him the coveted “SNL” gig, prompting Wallen to issue a public apology for his behaviour in an emotional video on Wednesday.

However, “SNL” creator and producer Michaels isn’t holding the 27 year old’s mistake against him, and has promised to invite him back to perform at another time.
Reflecting on his decision to drop Wallen from this weekend’s line-up, Michaels told U.S. breakfast show Today, “He isn’t the first country singer, or the first person from rock and roll who partied after a big, in that case a football game, or a concert, but we’re just living in different times and everything’s scrutinised.”
Rocker Jack White has been recruited to serve as the musical guest on Saturday, when comedian Bill Burr will host.
After “At Home” edition during lockdown earlier this year, the NBC sketch show returns to studio this new season with Chris Rock as a host and Megan Thee Stallion as a musical guest on the first episode. Jim Carrey is enlisted to play Joe Biden, Maya Rudolph is back as Kamala Harris, and Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump.

  • 'SNL' Resorts to Paid Audience Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

The ‘Saturday Night Live’ bosses reveal they paid audience to attend the filming in studio when the sketch show returned for the new season premiere last weekend.
    Oct 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Audience members were paid to attend the filming of last weekend’s (03-04Oct20) season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” (SNL).
According to the New York Times, the audience members, which included some first responders, received $150 (£116) in payment as they exited the Rockefeller Center for participating in the show – which was hosted by Chris Rock with Megan Thee Stallion as the musical guest.
The move comes amid restrictive health and safety regulations in the Big Apple, stipulating that media productions can only have an audience if it’s made up of paid individuals who “work” for the production company.
The guidelines also indicate that the show can only have an audience that’s 25 per cent of its average size and never more than 100 people.

Although show officials have yet to confirm the amount of compensation they paid, Sean Ludwig, who attended filming along with seven friends, confirmed they each received a $150 cheque from Universal Television.
“We had no idea we would be paid before we were handed checks,” he told the New York Times. “We were all very pleasantly surprised.” He added that, before entering the building, he had to take a Covid-19 test and sign health paperwork.
Next, the “SNL” will welcome country music singer Morgan Wallen as a musical guest and “Breaking Bad” actor Bill Burr as a host. Both are first timers on the NBC sketch show.
Wallen recently shared his excitement for the gig. “Doesn’t get much bigger than this when it comes to television,” he gushed. “Thank you @nbcsnl for having a good ole boy and his friends on to sing our stories.”
However, he later came under fire for partying without wearing a face mask ahead of his performance. Many urged “SNL” bosses to drop him to avoid potentially exposing audience, staff, and guest host to Covid-19.

  • Morgan Wallen's First 'SNL' Performance Canceled Due to Him Partying Maskless

    Instagram

Revealing that his ‘SNL’ debut is no more, the country singer makes use of this chance to apologize for his careless behavior, ‘I’d like to apologize to ‘SNL’, to my fans, to my team, for bringing me these opportunities.’
    Oct 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Morgan Wallen is reflecting on his mistake. The country singer recently landed in hot water after he was caught on camera partying maskless in Alabama despite COVID-19 pandemic. It eventually cost him his first gig on “Saturday Night Live”, as revealed by the singer himself in a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, October 7.
Besides announcing that his “SNL” performance is no more, Morgan also used this chance to apologize for his careless behavior. “I was getting ready for ‘SNL’ this Saturday and I got a call from the show letting me know that I would no longer be able to play. And that’s because of COVID protocols, which I understand,” he said. “My actions from this past weekend were pretty short-sighted, and have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams.”
Despite his actions, Morgan confirmed that he tested negative for the virus before issuing his apology. He said, “I’d like to apologize to ‘SNL’, to my fans, to my team, for bringing me these opportunities. I let them down. I wish I could’ve made country music and my fans proud but I respect the decision once again.”

Morgan also promised to be a better person following the incident. “On a more personal note, I think I have some growing up to do. I think I’ve lost myself a little bit,” he told his followers. “I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places. I don’t know. It’s left me with less joy, so I’m going to go try to work on that. I’m going to take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself.”

Meanwhile, his ex KT Smith previously reacted to the news by saying that she would not let him visit their child for the time being. It doesn’t mean she’s come to hate him though, as she pointed out, “All parenting looks different but he is still SO loved.”

  • Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron Dubs Megan Thee Stallion's Attack on 'SNL' Disgusting

    Instagram

Daniel clearly doesn’t appreciate the female emcee’s verbal assault during her debut performance on the long-running show because he’s ‘simply trying to do my job.’
    Oct 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – Daniel Cameron has broken his silence after Megan Thee Stallion called him out during her first “Saturday Night Live” performance last week. During his appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, October 6, the Kentucky Attorney General deemed the rapper’s verbal assault on the long-running show “disgusting.”
In the episode, Daniel stressed that he supported Megan’s call for black women protection, but he didn’t appreciate getting called out like that. “Let me just say I agree that we need to love and protect our Black women. There’s no question about that,” he said. “But the fact that someone would get on national television and make disparaging comments about me because I’m simply trying to do my job is disgusting.”
“But it’s not the first [time] we see this, and it certainly won’t be the last time we see this. At the end of the day, my responsibility is to provide facts and truth and represent and stand up for justice,” he continued, before making a mention of Breonna Taylor’s case. “I think what you saw there in that display, [is] someone who instead wants to fashion facts to a narrative. That narrative is simply not true in this particular case with Ms. Taylor. Again, it is a tragedy what happened to her.”

Daniel then assumed that Megan only attacked him because he is a part of the Republican party even though he is a black man. “I stand for truth and justice as opposed to giving in to a mob mentality,” he said. “And those are the sorts of things that will be hurled at me in this job.”
During her debut performance on “SNL”, Megan took the time to call out the politician over his handling of the investigation into Breonna Taylor’s death. “Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout Negroes that sold our people into slavery,” the message directed at the black Republican state leader read.
Megan continued, “We need to protect our black women and love our black women. (Be)cause at the end of the day, we need our black women. We need to protect our black men and stand up for our black men. ‘Cause at the end of the day we’re tired of seeing hashtags of our black men.”

  • Alec Baldwin Responds as He's Slammed for Mocking Trump on 'SNL' Amid President's Covid-19 Battle

    WENN

The ’30 Rock’ actor defends playing Donald Trump on the sketch show ‘Saturday Night Live’ over the weekend following the President’s Covid-19 diagnosis.
    Oct 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Alec Baldwin has defended playing Donald Trump on the premiere of the new season of “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend (03-04Oct20) while the U.S. president battles coronavirus in hospital.
The 62-year-old portrayed the current POTUS on the show on Saturday, with his “Cold Open” sketch mocking the first presidential debate between Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
However, while Baldwin’s skits as Trump have been well-received in the past, Saturday’s episode was met with backlash from some viewers – due to the fact that the president is currently being cared for in hospital while battling Covid-19.

The star addressed the backlash in a lengthy video on his Instagram page on Sunday, in which he said, “If there was ever the suggestion that Trump was truly, gravely ill, and people said, ‘Trump is really in trouble,’ then I would bet you everything I have that we wouldn’t even get near that, in terms of content of the show. They would have done something else. I’ve seen that happen before.”
“We only have the words of the White House itself and the people who work there themselves to go on, and all of them have all been saying he isn’t in any danger. We only have their word to go by. And if their word was that he was in serious trouble, then we probably wouldn’t have done it.”
Insisting the chaotic debate formed the major part of the sketch and there were only a few references to the president’s illness, Baldwin continued, “We thought the debate was something topical and we didn’t have anything with him in a hospital bed, but we had the debate. You’d have to have a very good reason to avoid that, topicality-wise, and nobody thought that they were mocking somebody’s illness by doing that.”
Alec concluded by saying that while he’s no fan of the president, he’d never wish him harm.

    NBC

The season premiere, which features Megan Thee Stallion as musical guest, is also the second most-watched for the series in 12 years following the premiere prior to the 2016 election.
    Oct 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Saturday Night Live” made a grand return with season 46 on October 3. The season premiere, which featured Jim Carrey as Joe Biden while Chris Rock was hosting, was reportedly the most-watched episode in 4 years.
According to Deadline, over 7.7 million viewers tuned into the episode which arrived exactly one month before the 2020 election on November 3. The episode is also the second most-watched for the series in 12 years following the premiere prior to the 2016 election. Additionally, it marked the most-watched entertainment telecast of the week.
Featuring Maya Rudolph reprising her role as Joe’s running mate Kamala Harris, one of the skits in the episode tackled the most recent presidential debate. It also referenced to Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis with Alec Baldwin’s Trump pulling out his “mask” which transpired to be a pair of underwear.

“Will you just shut up, man?” Carrey’s Biden imitated the Democrat’s now-famous retort to the president from the real debate. He also made a reference to Trump’s “dog whistle” comments on white supremacism and Proud Boys. “The president of the United States is literally blowing a dog whistle,” he said.
In addition, the episode saw Megan Thee Stallion serving as musical guest. While performing her song “Savage”, the 25-year-old rapper had a message written across the screen behind her, slamming Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and his handling of the investigation into Breonna Taylor’s death. “Daniel Cameron is no different than the sellout Negroes that sold our people into slavery,” the message directed at the black Republican state leader read.
Megan also took time to advocate for the protection of black women and men in America, insisting, “We need to protect our black women and love our black women. ‘Cause at the end of the day, we need our black women. We need to protect our black men and stand up for our black men. ‘Cause at the end of the day we’re tired of seeing hashtags of our black men.”

“(Be)cause at the end of the day, we need our black women. We need to protect our black men and stand up for our black men. ‘Cause at the end of the day we’re tired of seeing hashtags of our black men.”
Taylor, 26, was shot and killed by police officers during a botched raid on her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky in March (20), and her killing, as well as that of George Floyd in May (20), prompted a huge surge in Black Lives Matter protests across the U.S. and the world.
But last month (Sep20), Cameron claimed two of the three officers were justified in their actions while charging another with “wanton endangerment” following the release of a Grand Jury report into the tragedy.
Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Bryson Tiller are among the stars who have also slammed Cameron’s decision not to proceed with further charges.

AceShowbiz – “Saturday Night Live” has finally revealed the first look at Jim Carrey as Joe Biden in its upcoming season 46. It has arrived in the form of a 18-second promo featuring Jim and Maya Rudolph, who reprises her role as Kamala Harris.
The promo, which was released on Thursday, October 1, shows the process of the 58-year-old funnyman’s transformation into the Democratic presidential nominee. He can be seen getting his fake white hair placed on his head before joining Maya, who bears uncanny resemblance to the California Sen. as well as Joe’s running mate.
Before the clip ends, the pair strike a pose with knowing looks as dramatic music plays in the background. Season 46 of the long-running NBC comedy sketch is set to premiere on Saturday, October 3 featuring Chris Rock as the host, marking his third time taking over the hosting duties on the show. Megan Thee Stallion, meanwhile, will be serving as musical guest.
The season premiere will be the show’s first time back in Rockefeller Center’s legendary Studio 8H since March. The new season will feature new three cast members including Lauren Holt, Punkie Johnson and Andrew Dismukes with Ego Nwodim being promoted to main cast member. Alec Baldwin and Beck Bennett will also reprise Donald Trump and Mike Pence respectively.
“There was some interest on his part. And then we responded, obviously, positively,” “SNL” creator and EP Lorne Michaels said of casting Jim for the role. “But it came down to discussions about what the take was. He and Colin Jost had a bunch of talks. He and I as well. He will give the part energy and strength… Hopefully it’s funny.”
“I honestly don’t think of them as celebrity cameos. I think that’s the sort of New York Times approach to thinking about things,” Michaels said of the guest actors. “Alec Baldwin’s probably done the show 25 or 30 times. He’s just part of an extended group… It’s the same way with Maya — you saw what she brought to it. So, I don’t think of it that way.”
