      AceShowbiz – Lesley Manville can’t wait to start playing “wonderful woman” Princess Margaret in “The Crown”.
      The actress confirmed her casting as Queen Elizabeth II’s sister in the fifth and final season of the drama last week (ends July 03), and now she reveals she has had to keep the secret to herself for the past year, ever since showrunner Peter Morgan offered her the role in one of her own favorite TV “treats.”
      “It’s mind-blowing television,” the “Maleficent” star tells Deadline. “There was never any doubt that I would say yes. When they said, ‘Margaret’, I hadn’t really thought about it. Then I thought, ‘Yes, Margaret! That’s fabulous!’ She was so avant-garde. So naughty, delightful and funny. What a wonderful woman to play.”
      Manville will follow in the footsteps of Vanessa Kirby and Helena Bonham Carter, who took on the role in the first four seasons of the hit show, and she can’t wait to pick up the baton.
      “I don’t find that daunting; I find it thrilling,” she adds. “I think, ‘Come on Manville, you’ve got to take that baton, and not let those two actresses think, ‘Oh we were great, shame about Manville’. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.”
      Lesley knows she’ll be working with old pal and occasional co-star Imelda Staunton, who will portray Elizabeth in season five, but she has no idea who else will make up the cast.
      “Not a single name has been dangled like a carrot to make me even more excited,” she tells Deadline.

      AceShowbiz – Actress Lesley Manville has been cast to play Princess Margaret in the final season of hit series “The Crown”.
      The 64-year-old will replace Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen’s sister on the fifth season of the show, while Imelda Staunton has already been confirmed to play Elizabeth II, picking up the royal role from Olivia Colman.
      The younger Princess Margaret was portrayed by Vanessa Kirby on series one and two.
      Manville and Staunton are old acting colleagues, having appeared alongside each other in “Vera Drake” and the “Maleficent” films for Disney, while Manville has also won acclaim for her recent roles in “Phantom Thread” and “Hampstead”.
      “The Crown”‘s fourth season is expected to air later this year, but there’s no fixed production start date or release for season five.

      AceShowbiz – The producers of royal drama “The Crown” are hoping to complete work on the show’s fourth season before the coronavirus pandemic shuts the set down.
      Several major productions currently filming in England, such as “The Batman”, “Fantastic Beasts 3”, “The Witcher”, and the new Apple TV series “Suspicion”, have been suspended in recent days, but the Netflix drama is forging ahead with stars like Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies and Helena Bonham Carter still on set, according to reports.
      The series is in its final week of filming the upcoming fourth season.
      “The Crown” is also one of the only Netflix projects still shooting after bosses at the streaming service announced they had postponed filming on all productions in the U.S. and Canada.
      The decision to press on with “The Crown” comes as U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson releases a statement to the public, urging everyone to stay at home and avoid all gatherings.

      AceShowbiz – “The Crown” has always stunned viewers with the amazing casting and styling that makes its cast members perfectly look like the real-life version of the characters they are playing. Recently, Gillian Anderson caught many fans by surprise after photos of her on the set of the Netflix show’s season 4.
      In the new set photos, which were posted by Digital Spy on Tuesday, February 4, Gillian could be seen decked out in appropriate clothing as her character, Margaret Thatcher. Her outfit included a gray padded shoulder suit and puffy barnet.
      Her hair was also styled in short wavy locks, eerily similar to what that the Conservative Prime Minister, who ran the United Kingdom between 1979 and 1990, had at that time. The set photos are from a scene depicting the moment Thatcher, whose nickname was “The Iron Lady”, addressed the press shortly before being elected in 1979.

      The former “The X-Files” star was announced to be playing Thatcher back in September 2019. “I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of ‘The Crown’ and to have the opportunity to portray such a complicated and controversial woman,” Anderson expressed her excitement in a statement. “Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.”
      While “The Crown” is among the popular series on the streaming giant, the series will end with season 5. Show creator Peter Morgan confirmed the devastating news last week, saying in a statement, “At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop,” he explained.
      “I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision,” he added, before adding that Imelda Staunton would be taking over the role of the Queen Elizabeth II from Olivia Colman in season 5. “I’m absolutely thrilled to confirm Imelda Staunton as Her Majesty The Queen for the fifth and final season, taking The Crown into the 21st Century. Imelda is an astonishing talent and will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.”
      Season 4, which also stars Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, is set to premiere in late 2020 on Netflix.

      AceShowbiz – Actress Erin Doherty suffered a “minor meltdown” after landing her role as British royal Princess Anne in “The Crown”.
      The star joined the hit Netflix show for its third season and, speaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival Awards, she confessed the pressure of playing a well-known public figure got to her.
      “I have hidden from a lot of it (press attention). It is your thing for so long, and then it is released and people are suddenly aware of you,” the actress, who has appeared in British TV shows “Call the Midwife” and the BBC’s version of “Les Miserables”, said, reported U.K. newspaper the Evening Standard.
      “It was an overload for me. So I turned away from it. I got the job. And then I had a minor meltdown. I thought so many people will be like, ‘She wasn’t what I thought she would be.’ I had to be like, ‘You know what, this is my version of this woman.'”
      She added: “Also, not a lot of people of our generation knew her. So in a way it was an introduction.”
      And despite feeling prepared after studying videos of the Queen’s daughter on YouTube, she confessed working alongside such a high-profile cast also affected her.
      “The whole first week for me was like, ‘Erin, calm down’,” she said. “My legs were shaking. I was shaking because there was Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Colman. It was a lot.”
      Season three of “The Crown” is out now.

      Series creator Peter Morgan explains in a new interview why there will only be one more season after the fourth although it was originally planned for six seasons.

      AceShowbiz – Netflix hit British royal drama “The Crown” will end after a fifth series with Imelda Staunton playing Queen Elizabeth II, according to its creator, Peter Morgan.
      The show, which over three series so far has shown the Queen’s life from 1947 until 1977, was expected to run for at least two more series, taking events close to the present day.
      However, Morgan says that there will only be one more season after the fourth, which is currently in production and it will show the royals in the 1980s.
      “At the outset I had imagined ‘The Crown’ running for six seasons,” he tells British newspaper The Sun. “But now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.”
      Cutting proceedings short after five seasons, will likely mean the show ends in the early 2000s rather than depicting present day events.
      Morgan also confirmed reports that Imelda Staunton will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth from Olivia Colman for the fifth season, praising her as an “astonishing talent… taking “The Crown” into the 21st Century.”
      On taking up the part that’s also been played by Claire Foy in seasons one and two, Staunton added: “I have loved watching The Crown from the very start. As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts.
      “I am genuinely honoured to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking ‘The Crown’ to its conclusion.”
