New Sitcom 'Young Rock' Based on Dwayne Johnson's Childhood Scheduled for Fall Premiere

    Instagram

A television series based on The Rock’s younger years is expected to premiere on NBC this coming fall with the wrestler-turned-actor as an executive producer.
    Jun 19, 2020
AceShowbiz – A sitcom based on Dwayne Johnson’s early years is set to air in America this autumn 2020.
The “Jumanji: The Next Level” star, also known by his wrestling name The Rock, announced the project, “Young Rock”, earlier this year 2020. The comedy, which will debut on NBC, will focus on the early life of the action man. Johnson will serve as an executive producer and also appear on the show.
“For the first time ever I’m bringing you along with me to experience my insanely unbelievable childhood, teenage years and adolescence,” Johnson said as he first shared news of the series in a January 2020 Instagram post, before comparing his story to that of the 1994 film “Forrest Gump”.
“My close friends refer to me as the big, brown tattooed Forrest Gump because of everyone and everything that has weaved in and out of my surreal life,” he added, revealing the series will feature the harsh realities of his rise to fame, including “success, failure, homelessness, evictions, suicide attempts, arrests, hard times, good times, low times, high times… (and) all this s**t happened to me by the time I turned 21.”
An exact premiere date has not yet been set.

Dwayne Johnson Recalls Losing Jack Reacher Role to Tom Cruise

    WENN/Paramount Pictures

When chatting to fans on Facebook, the ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ actor admits that he did wonder why he did not get the part since people around him at the time made him think he had a shot.
    Apr 14, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson missed out on the lead role in 2012’s “Jack Reacher”.
The action man was chatting to fans on Facebook over the weekend when one asked him about parts he’d lost, prompting the former wrestler to reveal he went toe-to-toe with Tom Cruise over the movie adaptation of Lee Child’s novels.
“In Hollywood, actors are kind of like in a box,” Dwayne said. “There are actors that can vie for a particular role because it allows for them to have a certain look, skin colour, size, etc. Fortunately, for me, there aren’t a lot of guys at all who look like me. So, all of my roles, from the beginning of my career, I’ve been a lucky son of a b**ch that they’ve been created and designed for me – except Jack Reacher.”
“Now, this was 10 years ago, and I was in a much different place, I recognise that. Tom was the biggest movie star in the world, and I was not. I got the call saying, ‘Hey, you didn’t get the role’. Look, I didn’t even know if I had a shot for it, but the people around me at that time made me think that I did. I felt like I did, I felt like, ‘Why not me?'”

Cruise went on to play Reacher again in the 2016 sequel, “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back”, after which author Child revealed he didn’t think the movie superstar was well cast as his literary hero – because his Jack Reacher was much taller and much more imposing.
But Johnson isn’t complaining – shortly after missing out on “Reacher”, Dwayne landed a repeating role in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.

    Mar 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Production on Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s new heist movie with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds has been postponed to allow cast and crew members to put their families first during the coronavirus crisis.
The “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” star took to Instagram on Saturday, March 14 to share video footage of himself addressing his colleagues on the set of action thriller “Red Notice”, as he announced the Netflix project would be temporarily put on hold for two weeks from Monday.
In the clip, he said, “I really appreciate all your hard work and your patience during this time, but my number one goal for you guys, and it’s our number one goal too, is that we’re going to get everyone home to their families.”
“This (filming) is the kind of stuff that can wait; the most important thing is to take care of our families.”

“Everyone please stay healthy, vigilant, safe and let’s protect one another. We’re all in this – together.”

“Red Notice” is one of a number of Netflix productions paused amid the global uncertainty, which has prompted studio officials industry-wide to shut down shoots.
The latest wave of projects affected include Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman” and Chris Pratt’s “Jurassic World: Dominion”, while TV cameras have also stopped rolling on “Empire”, “Pose”, “Supernatural”, and “Power” spin-offs “Power Book II: Ghost” and “Power Book III: Raising Kanan”, according to Deadline.
Production on news shows “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” is also being suspended, along with shoots on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” and daytime series “The Talk”.

'American Sniper' Screenwriter 'Honored' to Write and Direct New Anthony Robles Biopic

    WENN/Apega

Dwayne Johnson, who is developing the film adaptation of the one-legged wrestler’s 2012 memoir ‘Unstoppable’, welcomes Jason Hall to the team by gushing, ‘This story is in his DNA.’
    Mar 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – “American Sniper” screenwriter Jason Hall has been tapped to direct Dwayne Johnson’s new biopic about one-legged fighter Anthony Robles.
Johnson, who used to wrestle as The Rock, announced in November (2019) that he was developing the project, adapted from Robles’ 2012 memoir, “Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion”.
Now he has recruited Hall to take charge of the movie, which was originally penned by John Hindman, and chronicles how Robles, who was born with only one leg, overcame a series of obstacles to become an undefeated National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) wrestling star and a National Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee.
Oscar nominee Hall, who made his directorial debut with Miles Teller’s 2017 war drama “Thank You for Your Service”, will also revamp Hindman’s script before production begins, reports Deadline.
“I grew up wrestling, and I remember tuning into the 2011 NCAA wrestling finals and getting goosebumps as I watched this kid vault out of the tunnel on crutches, toss them down, take the mat and dismantle the reigning national champ,” Hall shared in a statement.
“As miraculous an achievement as that was, the personal obstacles he faced off-the-mat were even more challenging. This is a tale of determination, perseverance, and sacrifice and I’m honored to be telling the Robles’ story at a time when the world is so desperately in need of real heroes.”
Welcoming Hall to the team, Johnson took to Twitter on Thursday, March 12 and wrote, “Let’s get to work.”
“After his Oscar nod for writing, American Sniper, Jason is ready and focused to write and direct Unstoppable for us. This story is in his dna. @ARobles125.”

Dwayne Johnson welcomes Jason Hall to ‘Unstoppable’ team.
Johnson will produce the film with his ex-wife and business partner, Dany Garcia, for their Seven Bucks Productions firm.

Kevin Hart Throws Playful Jab at Dwayne Johnson Over Filming of Action Scenes

    WENN/JRP

The ‘Ride Along’ star suggests that his ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ co-star is coward, unlike him and other notorious action film stars like Tom Cruise who have dangerous stunts in their movies.
    Mar 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kevin Hart is throwing another playful jab at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. When sharing a behind-the-scene look at his preparation to film action scenes for his upcoming Quibi series “Die Hart”, the stand-up-comedian-turned-actor mocked his “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” co-star by calling him a “pu**y”.
The one-minute clip posted on Instagram began with the 40-year-old listening to Eric Appel’s direction on how the stunt will go. Standing close behind him was his stunt double Samuel Jaye Paul. “You know, the only people that they task with stunts like this are the real deal. Me, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford… that’s just to name a few,” he then bragged. “The rest of those guys are pu**ies.”
Not stopping there, the “Ride Along” actor went on to name the retired WWE wrestler-turned-action man. “Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. If they only knew, right? What a b***h,” he said as Appel and Paul went along with his mockery. He titled the video post, “Life of an ‘Action Star’ “, with a note that read, “Stunt work on the set of my ‘Die Hart’ series.”

Many were not surprised by Hart’s jab at Johnson. “Why I knew he was talking bout the Rock,” one wrote back, while another admitted, “I knew u were gona mention Dwayne. Hahaha.” Others were excited to see the two stars’ banter with one writing, “Just waiting for the Rock’s reply.” One in particular, however, could not help but notice at the height difference between Hart and his double. “You’d think they could have found a child actor to get the height correct,” the fan quipped.
This was not the first time Hart has made fun of his co-star and best friend. Last Halloween, he recreated Johnson’s throwback picture. “This s**t makes me laugh. #NailedIt #HappyHalloween #PeepTheNapkinUnderMyElbow,” he captioned the side-by-side images of the them donning matching outfits while their arms resting on the railing.
To the playful post, Johnson responded, “You’re an a**hole. But I still love you. And I’m still laughing #brotherlylove #happyhalloween.”
