    Instagram

The wrestler-turned-actor refuses to take ‘the easy route’ as he relived his difficult relationship with late father for the new sitcom about his younger self.

    Jan 28, 2021
AceShowbiz – Dwayne Johnson had to relive some “incredibly tough” memories about his late father for his new sitcom “Young Rock”.
The upcoming show – which is based on The Rock’s life and sees Joseph Lee Anderson playing Rocky Johnson – is largely lighthearted while still referencing some of his early struggles during his formative years.
Speaking during NBC’s TCA press tour on Tuesday (26Jan21), he said, “I thought, well, let’s not take the easy route. But it was incredibly complicated and it was incredibly tough… Growing up, and you know we specifically went with these timelines in my life that were very defining times at 10 years old, 15 and 18… there’s a lot of things in between those years that took place…”
“But it was complicated and the relationship that I had with my dad was incredibly complicated – that was fuelled by tough love.”

Dwayne noted how his dad was “kicked out of his house at 13,” which “shaped the man” who raised him.
“And in that complication came an extraordinary life that was full of travel,” he continued. “I lived in 13 different states by the time I was 13 years old, also lived in New Zealand.”
The 48-year-old former WWE superstar – who followed his father’s footsteps into the wrestling business before becoming a Hollywood star – also heaped praise on Anderson’s portrayal of Rocky in the sitcom.
“My dad died one year ago this month last year, he died suddenly, and he’s obviously featured throughout the show and Joseph, he did a tremendous job playing my dad,” he smiled.Dwayne’s comments about the show came as it was revealed that Rosario Dawson and Randall Park have been cast in the programme. Rosario will play General Monica Jackson, who will help Johnson in his bid to become U.S. president while Park will star as himself.

During the November 26 broadcast of the 2020 Macy’s Parade, NBC debuts a ticklish commercial that features the wrestler-turned-actor’s infamous look as one of the event’s larger-than-life balloons.

    Nov 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s iconic 1990s look has become a part of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. During the Thursday, November 26 broadcast of the annual parade, NBC debuted a ticklish commercial to promote the wrestler-turned-actor’s upcoming series “Young Rock”, and it featured a recreation of his infamous fanny pack picture into one of the event’s larger-than-life balloons.
The 30-second ad saw Johnson’s balloon floating over the streets of Manhattan as “Today” show co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb gave their reaction in a voiceover. “This balloon celebrates NBC’s new comedy ‘Young Rock’ which follows the wild times of Dwayne as a kid, a teen and a college footballer,” Kotb introduced, while Guthrie added, “The fanny pack alone is filled with 50,000 cubic feet of helium.”
After the commercial aired, Johnson shared his thought on the unique float via Instagram. “Never in my wildest dreams…,” he wrote on his post of the promo clip. “I’ve been a lucky SOB to have done some pretty cool shit in my career, but after seeing my @nbcyoungrock FANNY PACK FLOAT in the #MacysThanksgivingParade, this might take the cake.”
Unafraid of poking fun at himself, the 48-year-old continued, “This time in my life may represent when I had just $7bucks in my fanny pack, but at least I had enough COOL to tuck my turtleneck in and wear fake silver jewelry because it was all I could afford. And my massive plucked raised eyebrow is the stuff that dreams (and nightmares) are made of.” He concluded by stating, “Float on, kid.. you might just make it one day.”

One day prior to the release of the promo, Johnson treated fans to several first looks at his upcoming series. One in particular had him explaining, “Here’s mini me hanging at our house with wrestling legend, THE JUNKYARD DOG played by @mrnatejackson. I was born into the wild, crazy and unpredictable world of pro wrestling.”

“And as a little boy, to me – these guys were REAL superheroes,” the father-of-three went on recalling his younger years. “No capes. Just big, bad ass and fun dudes. Who always showed tough love. Can’t wait for you to watch this one!”

Dwayne Johnson Tackles Getting Stuck in Porsche Taycan During 'Red Notice' Shoot With Humor

    WENN/Nicky Nelson

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber and the filming crew were forced to get creative in shooting the Netflix movie’s racing sequence after finding out the ‘Jumanji’ star was too big for the sports car.

    Nov 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dwayne Johnson left director Rawson Thurber sweating on the set of upcoming movie “Red Notice” after becoming stuck in a pricey Porsche – shipped in just for the shoot.
The former wrestler-turned-Hollywood action man shared the funny story on Instagram, revealing they had to rework the whole racing sequence at the last minute because the actor, nicknamed The Rock, was simply too big for the small car.
“Aaaaand guess who’s too big to fit in yet another sports car and now we have to change the entire shot sequence around (sic)…,” he captioned a photo of the pair on set, alongside the Porsche Taycan electric midsize sport sedan.
“For our @netflix globe trotting heist movie, RED NOTICE, my writer/director @rawsonthurber… wrote this INSANE chase sequence where I hop in this iconic Porsche and be the bad a** behind the wheel that I am.”
“Well, after months of prep and costs… buying and shipping this car over to the states (sic) – it’s time to rehearse the big chase sequence.”
Johnson goes on to detail the conversation he and Thurber shared at the time of the stressful discovery, recalling how he got stuck climbing into the car as his back is “a bit too wide.”

“DJ continues to struggle trying to shimmy into this Porsche like a big a** brown marshmallow getting shoved into a coin slot,” he wrote, in third person.

When Thurber realized they had a big problem, he “nervously” laughed and asked, “Wait can you fit…? Are you f**king with me…? Oh my God.”
Johnson continued, “After about 15 seconds of uncomfortable silence… Rawson, myself and the entire crew just started laughing our a**es off!! F**k it. Welcome to 2020.”
They managed to find ” ‘creative’ ways to still get the shot,” and Thurber admitted the nerve-wracking moment is now one of his personal highlights from the making of the movie.
Commenting on the post, he wrote, “100 (per cent) true and still one of my favorite moments on this entire shoot. But we’ve all been there, right? #BackAsWideAsACoffeeTable.”
“Red Notice”, which officially wrapped production this week (begins November 16), also stars Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot, and is set for release next year (21).

    Sep 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has returned to work on “Red Notice” after battling COVID-19 over the summer.
The action man’s brother-in-law and producing partner Hiram Garcia insists the star is in good health as he resumes work on the Netflix production.
“It’s been an incredible process and undertaking to get a production up-and-running,” he tells Variety. “Netflix has had the attitude that whatever it will take to keep things safe for the crew, they are 100 per cent behind.”
Johnson revealed earlier this month that himself, his wife and daughters Jasmine, four, and Tiana, two, all tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Testing positive for COVID-19 is a lot different than recovering from nasty injuries, getting evicted or being broke, which I’ve been more than a few times,” the movie star said. “I wish it was only me that tested positive. It was my entire family and it was a kick in the gut. We are good, we’re on the other end of it and no longer contagious. Thank God, we’re healthy.”

Johnson’s “Red Notice” co-star Ryan Reynolds documented his return to the film over the weekend, taking to Instagram to document the coronavirus testing process on set.
