Carole Baskin Turns Down Offer to 'Clear the Air' After 'Freak Show' on 'Tiger King' Season 1

    Facebook

The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant reveals she has been approached to appear in the upcoming second season of ‘Tiger King’ but she turns down the offer.

    Feb 26, 2021
AceShowbiz – Carole Baskin has recently rejected an approach to take part in a second series of “Tiger King”.
The 59-year-old star has previously spoken about how she felt misled about the intentions of the Netflix series – which examined the feud between her and private zoo owner Joe Exotic, including allegations she had killed her missing second husband Don Lewis – so she was amazed when the team behind the show recently got in touch to “clear the air” and try to persuade her and her spouse, Howard Baskin, to sign up for a new series.
She told RadioTimes.com, “It was just a few weeks ago that (the director) Rebecca Chaiklin had reached out asking if we could clear the air. I have been speaking about how we had been so misled into thinking this was going to be the Blackfish for big cats and then it turned out to be the freak show that they produced.”
“So when she said she wanted to clear the air, I felt like, you know, that’s just absolutely ridiculous. It was so obvious that I had been betrayed by them. Why would she ever think that I would be willing to speak to them again. And so I told her to just lose my number.”
Rebecca then reached out to Howard, who told her the programme makers had an opportunity to “redeem” themselves but insisted they wouldn’t be part of any further episodes.
She added, “He said if you guys want to redeem yourselves for all of the horrible things that you made people believe about us that just weren’t true, then your season two will show that but we don’t want any part of it.”

The big cat conservationist worked with the “Tiger King” producers for five years on the first season and believed the series would expose the cub petting industry and only discovered the true angle when she watched the show.
She said, “I found out about it the same time everybody else in the world did. When we saw the trailers coming out for something called Tiger King, we actually reached out to them and said, ‘Who’s working on that film because you said Joe Exotic was going to be like five minutes of your film?’ And all of a sudden, they didn’t want to talk to us.”
“So we sat down and binge-watched it and we kept thinking that surely at some point, they would set the record straight, and they never did. They just left all of those false allegations hanging in the air and we’ve all seen the results of that.”
And she insisted the “biggest lie” on the series was her feud with Joe – who is currently in jail over a plot to have Carole killed – because she’s never even spoken to him.
Asked if she had been in touch with the zoo keeper or his team since the series aired, she said, “You know the biggest lie that people were sold in Tiger King was that there was a feud because I’ve never actually spoken to Joe.”
“I’ve only ever seen him twice before the trial – the murder for hire trail – and those two times were both in conjunction with our lawsuit that we had against him because he was using our name.”
“So no, I have not talked to Joe or any of the people who proclaim to be trying to get him out of jail.”

Carole Baskin Slams 'Tiger King' Producers for Making Up Joe Exotic Feud

    Facebook/Instagram

The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant blames the ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’ bosses for creating a rivalry between her and the former zookeeper.

    Dec 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Carole Baskin has “never” spoken to Joe Exotic.
The 59-year-old star agreed to take part in Netflix documentary “Tiger King” because she believed it would be an expose of the mistreatment of animals by private owners, but it mainly focused on the relationship between her and her rival, though she insisted the “feud” depicted on the show was created by producers.
“At the end of it. I just sat there with my (current) husband, looking at each other, like: ‘What was that?’ Such a missed opportunity. Because there was so much they could have shown people about the egregious abuse that these animals suffer,” she told The Observer newspaper.
“Instead, they just glamorised this yahoo in Oklahoma, and tried to create a feud. I’ve never even spoken to Joe Exotic. I’ve seen him in person I think four times.”

And Carole admitted her life was a “living hell” for months after the programme aired because she kept receiving death threats.
“My phone started ringing, and it rang every two minutes for three months straight,” she said. “Every time I answered the phone, it was somebody screaming threats and saying they wanted to kill me, they wanted to kill my family, they wanted to kill the cats. Our lives were just a living hell for the first three months.”
When she watched the documentary series herself, Carole was just as hooked as the millions of viewers around the world.
“It was like watching a dumpster fire, you just couldn’t turn away from it,” she continued. “It was just mesmerising that there could be this many crazy people doing so many wretched things to animals.”

  • Carole Baskin Not Really Excited About Nicolas Cage's 'Tiger King' TV Series

    Facebook/WENN

The Big Cat Rescue chief likely won’t watch the upcoming TV series which is going to feature the ‘Ghost Rider’ actor as her infamous adversary Joe Exotic.
    Sep 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Carole Baskin probably won’t be tuning into Amazon’s forthcoming “Tiger King” TV series – despite her “favourite actor” Nicolas Cage landing the starring role.
In the Amazon series, Cage will portray an eccentric zookeeper in Oklahoma fighting to save his park. The project is based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild”, written by Leif Reigstad, who will executive produce.
Despite being a massive fan of Cage, Baskin – who saw Exotic jailed for 22 years for his role in a murder-for-hire plot against her – admits she likely won’t watch the show.
“He is such a favorite actor of mine, and I just don’t know if I can even watch him after seeing that role,” she tells U.S. TV show “Extra”.
Of her hopes for the show, she shares, “For me, it’s not what people think about me from ‘Tiger King,’ even though I was grossly misportrayed as a villain, but what I am hoping people get from this is the message of what was missed in ‘Tiger King,’ that the animals are being exploited and abused – and we need to stop that.”
This week (begs07Sep20), Exotic submitted a 257-page case to U.S. leader Donald Trump, alleging he’s been mistreated and sexually assaulted behind bars, in a bid to be pardoned from his sentence – but Baskin, who appears on the new season of “Dancing With the Stars”, is doubtful of his chances.
“I just can’t imagine that would be good for anybody’s political campaign,” she adds.

The “National Treasure” star will portray big cat collector Joe Exotic in the scripted show based on the hugely popular Netflix docuseries.
The untitled project, backed by Hollywood movie mogul Brian Grazer, launched in May, with several networks and streaming sites keen to pick it up.
News of the show comes weeks after NBCUniversal gave comedian and actress Kate McKinnon’s new project, about Joe Exotic’s “Tiger King” rival Carole Baskin, a straight-to-series order.

AceShowbiz – Carole Baskin is allegedly demanding a $1.2 million (£1 million) fee to take part in a second season of hit Netflix show “Tiger King”.
Baskin was one of the subjects of the docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”, which followed zoo owner Joe Exotic as he was convicted of plotting to kill the animal rights activist and also explored rumours that she was involved with the disappearance of her wealthy ex-husband, who was legally declared dead in 2002.
While Exotic is said to have jumped on board after Netflix reportedly secured the rights to a second series of the show, Baskin has yet to sign on the dotted line – according to Britain’s The Sun newspaper – and is reportedly negotiating a hefty fee.
“Carole is asking for a seven-figure sum,” a source told the publication. “It’s around the $1.2 million mark. She wants to plough it into her Florida sanctuary, Big Cat Rescue.”

'Tiger King' Star Jeff Lowe and Wife to Star on New Reality Show

    Netflix

The new program reportedly will ‘divulge a lot more information about the relationship’ between Jeff and Joe, who is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence.
    Jun 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jeff Lowe and his wife Lauren will open up on their experiences with incarcerated “Tiger King” star Joe Exotic on a new reality TV show.
The star revealed the news in an interview with People, explaining the programme will “divulge a lot more information about the relationship” between Jeff and Joe – who is serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted of plotting a murder-for-hire against zookeeping rival Carole Baskin, among other charges.
“It’ll be our narrative on the Tiger King with evidence to support our sides of the stories. And it will be about the transfer of all these beautiful animals from Joe’s facility to the new facility,” he explained.
“And then the day-to-day struggle of running something as big as a 60-acre animal park and all the intricacies of the employment of zookeepers and fighting all of the animal rights groups.”
While Jeff stated that he has not been given “an exact date of production”, as the series has only just entered pre-production, he added: “It’s with The Content Group in California, and it will prove to be very, very informative.”
Jeff is set to open his highly anticipated Tiger King Park this fall in Thackerville, Oklahoma later this year, which he hopes will “put a brighter light on things” following the mistreatment of animals witnessed in the Netflix docuseries.
“Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” debuted on Netflix in March and proved a hit with viewers during the COVID-19 lockdown, becoming one of the most-viewed series in the streaming site’s history.

'Tiger King' Spin-Off Focusing on Siegfried and Roy in the Works

    Facebook

A new project that chronicles the former Las Vegas performance duo Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn is in development to follow up ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’.
    May 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – The filmmakers behind Netflix’s hit series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” are reportedly planning a new episode on magical duo Siegfried & Roy.
The original “Tiger King” documentary series, which focused on the now incarcerated Oklahoma zoo owner Joe Exotic, was an unexpected hit with viewers during the coronavirus lockdown due to its eccentric subjects and tales of criminal intrigue.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Dr. James Liu, a wildlife veterinarian and field biologist who worked on the series, reached out to the publication requesting contact information for Chris Lawrence, a former tiger handler for Siegfried & Roy’s Las Vegas show.
During a call, Liu reportedly said work was underway on a follow-up episode under the “Tiger King” name, focusing on the 2003 onstage tiger mauling that left one half of “Siegfried & Roy”, Roy Horn, permanently injured.
Lawrence was profiled in THR detailing his recollections of the infamous attack, disputing the magician’s “romanticised” claims about it and blaming Horn, who died last Friday, May 8, 2020 after contracting Covid-19, for handling errors leading to the terrifying incident.
Horn survived the mauling, but it led to him and partner Siegfried Fischbacher ending their long-running Las Vegas act featuring white lions and tigers as it left him partially paralysed and unable to walk and talk until 2006.
The new episode, which Liu told THR would be less sensationalist than the original series, will reportedly offer Lawrence the chance to respond to Fischbacher’s denial of his allegations that Horn bore some responsibility for the tiger attack.
