Ariana Grande's Brother Channels Joe Exotic in Wild 'Tiger King' Musical

Frankie Grande delivers ‘Husband Number 2’ as he joins the online ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’ musical created by Broadway writer/producer Andrew Lippa.
    May 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Frankie Grande is the latest star to join in the online “Tiger King: The Musical (A Parody)” craze.
Ariana Grande’s brother Frankie lent vocals to the project, created by Andrew Lippa – who previously created Broadway shows including “The Addams Family” and “Big Fish”.
His new concept is focused on the story of Joe Exotic, the star of “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” who ran a popular illegal zoo in Oklahoma and was sentenced to 22 years in jail for plotting to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin and other wildlife violations.
In the latest tune, “Husband Number 2”, Frankie takes on the role of Joe’s late husband Travis Maldonado, donning terrible fake tattoos and a goatee for the tongue-in-cheek clip.
Frankie plays Travis, as well as Joe – and husband number one, the shirtless John Finlay, belting out hilarious lines, including, “I wasn’t gay but didn’t care / you were a famous millionaire / and so / I said I’d take it.”
Also featured is a stuffed tiger and, at the end of the clip, Frankie appears as Carole Baskin – who became a hit with fans amid conspiracy theories she murdered her late husband and fed him to tigers.

He’s not the first star to join the production – Kristin Chenoweth previously played Carole, complete with cat ears, “Beanie Babies”, and the Netflix star’s “Hey all you cool cats and kittens” catchphrase.

Sia Raps in Hilarious 'Tiger King' Parody

The ‘Chandelier’ hitmaker pokes fun at Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin in a ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’ parody that’s set to Megan Thee Stallion’s song ‘Savage’.
    Apr 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sia Furler is getting her claws into the “Tiger King” frenzy with a parody music video inspired by the hit Netflix docuseries.
The 44-year-old “Cheap Thrills” singer dropped the one-minute rap on social media over the weekend, packed with references to feuding stars, incarcerated zoo keeper Joe Exotic and animal rights activist Carole Baskin.
In the hilarious clip, the hitmaker wears an oversized hat, much like Joe’s own headpieces as she performed the parody to the tune of “Savage” by Megan Thee Stallion.
Sia was joined by dancer Maddie Ziegler and stylist Tonya Brewer for the video, which she appropriately named “Joe Exotic (Diva Cut)”.
The music video opened with the line “Joe Exotic breeds tigers and lions, chaotic,” before mentioning the tiger breeder’s bizarre obsession with arch-nemesis Carole Baskin – calling him “psychotic.”
Later lyrics cover Joe’s relationships as well as his run for governor in Oklahoma, with the star remarking, “Turns people gay ‘cos he’s got it. Got the meth.”
They added, “Prince Albert to please his two husbands? What’s up with him?”
However, it’s all for a good cause as, in the caption to the video, Sia urged her fans to donate to The Humane Society, to help protect wildlife worldwide.
The full clip is available to watch here.

“Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” topped Netflix’s viewing charts with an impressive combined audience of 64 million worldwide in its first month on the streaming platform. The Offspring Treats Fans to Quirky Cover of 'Tiger King' Song 'Here Kitty Kitty'

    Instagram

Becoming fans of ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’, frontman Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles give the docuseries’ star Joe Exotic a musical boost by releasing their rendition of his track.
    Apr 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Punk rockers The Offspring have given jailed “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” icon Joe Exotic a musical boost by covering his track “Here Kitty Kitty”.
Like many Americans, the California bandmates have become fans of the “Tiger King” Netflix docuseries and now they have released their rendition of one of the tunes that features on the show.
“We are going a little stir crazy these days and we wanted to do something fun to put a smile on our faces,” a statement from the band reads.
Performing in face masks, frontman Dexter Holland and guitarist Noodles have released a quirky video on YouTube to accompany the track, in which they are joined by a skateboarding drummer in a tiger costume and two dancing pussycats.
“Here Kitty Kitty” alludes to Joe Exotic’s claims that his nemesis, animal rights activist Carole Baskin, murdered her husband.
The Offspring also acknowledges that “Here Kitty Kitty” was written by The Clinton Johnson Band, and “not by anyone in that recent documentary we all got caught up in.”
    [embedded content]
Explaining the thinking behind their cover, the bandmates add, “The Offspring wives were group texting recently, and while they all agreed that they truly love their husbands, there are times when they’ve absolutely felt like feeding us to the tigers. In that spirit, we hope you enjoy this random song and video.”

'Tiger King' Gets Dethroned by 'Despicable Me' as Netflix's Most-Watched Title

    Netflix

The documentary series about outlandish former zoo owner Joe Exotic became the streaming platform’s number one show three days after its premiere over three weeks ago.
    Apr 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” has fallen to number two on Netflix’s daily most-watched chart for the first time since it clawed its way to the top over three weeks ago.
The documentary series about outlandish former zoo owner Joe Exotic secured its position as the number one show on the streaming platform on 23 March, three days after its premiere – and it quickly became a phenomenon, prompting Netflix bosses to OK an after-show episode featuring Joel McHale, which aired earlier this week.
But now cartoon family film “Despicable Me” has toppled the “Tiger King”, which still roars at the top of the streaming site’s separate TV list.

Incarcerated 'Tiger King' Star Joe Exotic Unraveled to Be 'Scared to Death' of Big Cats

    Netflix

Rick Kirkham, the producer behind Netflix’s ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’, additionally recalls how ‘unbelievably cruel’ the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park’s former owner could be.
    Apr 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Joe Exotic is “terrified of big cats”, according to “Tiger King” producer Rick Kirkham.
“Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” debuted on Netflix last month, and focuses on incarcerated Oklahoma zoo boss Exotic, real name Joe Maldonado-Passage, and his plot to kill his bitter rival Carole Baskin.
It’s been a worldwide smash hit for the streaming service, with Joel McHale taking charge of a reunion special, “The Tiger King and I”, on Sunday night (April 12), which featured the return of some of the programme’s most loved characters, including producer Kirkham.
In his chat, Kirkham told McHale that despite his “Tiger King” nickname, Joe was actually petrified of big cats, and had them sedated whenever he had to get close to them for work.
“He was scared to death of lions and tigers,” Kirkham said. “In the shots you see where he’s in with the two tigers, the white one is blind and the other one is tranquilised. It’s idiotic to think how he’s become famous as ‘the tiger king’ when he’s so terrified of big cats.”
Kirkham also recounted a horrific story about the “unbelievably cruel” Joe, describing how he’d given reassurances to a tearful woman that he’d give her horse a “good life” on his property.
“Before she got off the park – he said, ‘Rick, roll your camera. Roll your camera. Come on, you’re gonna love this Rick’, – he walked up, pulled a gun out of his holster and shot the horse dead in the trailer and then cut it up with a chainsaw and then fed it to the tigers that day,” Kirkham recalled. He also claimed that Joe would kill the old tigers and “feed them right to the other tigers”.
Elsewhere in the reunion special, Jeff and Lauren Lowe, the couple who took over Joe’s Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, reflected on another allegation touched upon in the series – that Baskin killed her ex-husband Don Lewis and fed him to the tigers.
Asked whether or not he believed that Baskin murdered Lewis, Jeff replied: “There’s no question in my mind that she did it, and we’ve claimed that for years and years and years.”
“Abso-f**king-lutley,” his wife Lauren agreed emphatically.
Baskin has always vehemently denied having anything to do with Lewis’ disappearance. She said in an interview with the Tampa Times on Friday that she’s been receiving death threats herself since the show started streaming, and her publicist told Us Weekly that while she hadn’t been asked to be part of “The Tiger King and I”, she wouldn’t have participated anyway due to her portrayal in the programme.

Carole Baskin Furious With 'Tiger King' Filmmakers After Becoming Target of Death Treats

In her first interview since the documentary debuted on Netflix, the animal rights activist reveals that she has had to turn her phone off which she used to field calls from emergency services.
    Apr 13, 2020
AceShowbiz – Animal rights activist Carole Baskin is furious with “Tiger King” documentary makers because she has become the target of death threats following her portrayal on the hit Netflix series.
The true crime saga, titled “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”, focuses on incarcerated Oklahoma zoo boss Joe Exotic and his plot to kill his bitter rival Baskin, who runs a big cat rescue facility in the state, but it also shines a light on the 1997 disappearance of her second husband, multi-millionaire Jack ‘Don’ Lewis.
No one was ever charged with his murder, but he was declared legally dead in 2002.
Florida-based Carole claims the completed series is not what she initially signed up for, because all she ever wanted to highlight was the abuse suffered by animals in the captive tiger trade, and instead, she feels duped into appearing onscreen.
In her first interview since “Tiger King” debuted on Netflix on 20 March, Carole tells the Tampa Bay Times, “I just feel so angry that people have totally missed the point. And the point is these cubs are being abused and exploited and the public is enabling that.”
Her third husband, Howard Baskin, adds, “There’s almost no way to describe the intensity of feeling of betrayal (sic).”
Carole claims the show has turned her into a public hate figure, subjected to harassment and even death threats, making her too scared to leave her home or answer her cell phone, through which she used to field calls from emergency services regarding help for injured big cats.
“I’ve had to turn my phone off,” the 58-year-old says. “I can’t tell the real ones (calls) from the fake ones because they’re always out of state numbers anyway.”
In “Tiger King”, Exotic accuses Carole of killing Lewis and feeding him to her tigers, allegations she firmly denies, and while she is not considered to be a suspect in her ex’s death, local police have reopened the cold case in the hopes fans of the show will provide them with new leads.
The Baskins’ interview emerges as fans sink their teeth into a new bonus episode of “Tiger King”, in which actor and TV personality Joel McHale interviews people who appeared on the docu-series.
The “Tiger King and I” was released on Sunday (April 12), and features chats with the likes of John Finlay, Erik Cowie and Kelci Saffery.

Kristin Chenoweth Turns Into Carole Baskin in A 'Tiger King' Musical Number

    Instagram

‘Big Fish’ composer Andrew Lippa has brought together around 42 different artists to write and create original tunes for the parody of Netflix’s docu-series, ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’.
    Apr 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Singer/actress Kristin Chenoweth has taken on the role of “Tiger King”‘s Carole Baskin for a humorous new song.
“Big Fish” composer Andrew Lippa came up with the idea to turn Netflix’s hit docu-series, “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness”, into a musical and began tweeting about the proposed project in late March.
“I’m making the musical of ‘Tiger King’,” he posted, after binge-watching the popular show. “Don’t try to stop me. Don’t tell me you have the rights. You don’t. I will crush it.”

Andrew Lippa announced he’s developing a musical of ‘Tiger King’.
Lippa had been joking at the time, but the viral tweet caught the attention of Kurt Deutsch of Ghostlight Records, who is now helping him bring the idea to fruition.
However, instead of a traditional show, the musician tells the New York Post he’s brought together around 42 different artists to write and create original tunes all inspired by true crime tale “Tiger King”, which focuses on incarcerated Oklahoma zoo boss Joe Exotic and his bitter rival Baskin, who runs a big cat rescue facility in the state.
The first song is “Little Pieces”, featuring Chenoweth as animal rights activist Baskin, who sings about chopping up her husband, multi-millionaire Jack ‘Don’ Lewis, and feeding him to her big cats – referencing one theory regarding his disappearance in August, 1997. He was declared legally dead in 2002, although no one has ever been charged with his murder.
Lippa reveals Chenoweth jumped at the parody opportunity and she’s since recorded the song in isolation during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, and has even filmed an accompanying music video on her iPhone.
Alerting fans to the track’s release (https://soundcloud.com/tigerkingmusicalparody) on Friday, April 10, she tweeted, “Tiger cubs, the song is here! Find it on SoundCloud. Video coming next week! #LittlePieces @lippaofficial”.

Follow-up tunes are due to be released randomly over the coming weeks, with Lippa hoping to drop two promos next week (begins April 13).
And he may even have the chance to turn it into a TV feature.
He shared with the Post: “I’ve already had a producer friend from Hollywood call me and say, ‘Hey, I think Netflix would want to partner with you on this!’ ”

Netflix officials have yet to comment.
Chenoweth isn’t the only star obsessed with “Tiger King” and Baskin – “Saturday Night Live” comedienne Kate McKinnon is already attached to play the activist in an upcoming TV series based on the podcast which originally chronicled Exotic’s role in a murder-for-hire plot.
Meanwhile, Kevin Bacon and Wendi McLendon-Covey are odds makers’ favourites to play Exotic and Baskin in the inevitable film adaptation of the smash hit streaming show.
