Television gardener Charlie Dimmock has revealed she does not regret the controversial affair that ended her relationship with viticulturist John Mushet, as she opened up about her past and the tragic loss of her parents.
The couple split in 2001 after Charlie had a short relationship with Ground Force microphone operator Andy Simmons.
“I don’t see Andy anymore, but I don’t regret what happened. You wouldn’t do anything if you kept worrying about what might go wrong,” revealed the green fingered telly star to the Daily Mail.
“John and I had been together for a long time so when we split up I relied heavily on family and close friends.
“I’ve discovered that the most difficult after-effect of the break-up is getting into another relationship,” the star added.
Dimmock has been a household name ever since hosting Ground Force alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh for its entire run between 1997 and 2005.
Charlie is now best known for presenting BBC daytime show Garden Rescue, where she has been transforming gardens into serene wildlife sanctuaries since 2016.
Charlie revealed in 2014 that she was single and has not appeared publicly with anyone since she made the statement.
She also revealed that she felt “too old” to get married, adding: “I’m too old now, certainly too old for marriage, there’s no point. I can’t see anything happening when it comes to romance; somebody would have to really bowl me over. I am quite content without a man in my life.”
Despite Charlie’s positive, friendly disposition, she has dealt with a major tragedy in her life. The popular presenter took a two-year break from television work following her mother and stepfather’s tragic deaths in 2004.
Charlie revealed she “struggled to cope” after her mum and stepdad died in the infamous tsunami of 2004.
Sue and Robert Kennedy, who had been holidaying in Thailand, lost their lives in the horrific Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami on Boxing Day.
Their funeral was held in June 2005, after their bodies were repatriated to the UK.
Charlie revealed she dealt with the grief of losing her mother by living “day-to-day”.
