Coronation Street viewers were left confused during Friday’s episode of the soap after a storyline involving the Bailey family was left to play out via video chat.
Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) found out Michael might not be his son after wife Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw) revealed she had slept with his brother Ronnie (Vinta Morgan).
But the heart-wrenching scenes took place via FaceTime, which left many fans confused.
Aggie left the set last year as she took on more shifts as a Covid-19 nurse.
Her character was forced to self-isolate in a hotel after a colleague at the hospital displayed coronavirus symptoms.
But she returned more recently to have it out with Grace, the mother of Michael’s child.
“Is Aggie just going to keep FaceTiming from work from now on and not bother coming home?” one fan took to Twitter to ask.
Another asked: “Why is Aggie always isolating? Does she have a health condition in real life that stops her coming on set during lockdown or something?”
One fan was impressed with actress Lorna Laidlaw’s portrayal of Aggie, writing: “That Aggie acts better over FaceTime than the rest of them do in the flesh!” with a row of crying laughing emojis.
Someone else saw the funny side, adding: “BTW, Aggie is just in the upstairs bedroom. She’s too lazy to come downstairs.”
Another joked: “Aggie has quite literally phoned in her performance.”
But it was difficult to see the humour in the rest of the episode, as Grace’s premature baby suffered more health issues.
Ed lost his video call connection with Aggie, after which he received a frantic phone call from son Michael who was undergoing a crisis at the hospital with his new baby.
The new baby couldn’t breathe when taken off her ventilator.
“She’ll be back home in no time,” Ed reassured his son.
But Michael said the premature tot would need to be in the hospital for at least 10 weeks – until Grace’s due date.
