Emmerdale fans baffled as key element of ITV soap 'missing' for first time in months

Emmerdale viewers were left thrilled and stunned on the latest episode of the soap after ITV didn’t issue a warning over distressing scenes for the first time in months.

Fans are used to hearing the serious warning air just before the soap starts, which prepares viewers for “scenes of distress which some viewers may find upsetting.”

Fans have been livid over the constant warnings after a string of heavy storylines in recent months.

Viewers took to Twitter to comment on the absent intro, with one saying: “Emmerdale time finally no mentions of upsetting scenes!”

A second added: “No distressing scenes? Well that makes a change! #emmerdale,” while a third added: “Do my ears deceive me or are there finally going to be no distressing scenes on Emmerdale today?”

The warning has been a regular fixture of late on the drama-filled series, with some viewers saying they’re switching off as the show has become “too dark.”

Recent storylines include a terminal cancer diagnosis to tough scenes surrounding Nicola’s attack and breakdown.

“Oh god, upsetting scenes etc etc. I love a bit of early evening light entertainment. Why is Emmerdale always so dark?” blasted one viewer.

“Scenes of distress isn’t that every night? I’m out take care everybody,” said a second.

While a third added: “The fact that there’s a warning every episode is ridiculous why is this show so miz al the time!?”

Even one of the show’s stars has spoken out about her struggle to film the distressing scenes.

Actress Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola King, opened up about filming recent scenes, which she described as “menacing”, as fans saw Nicola attacked by a group of teenage girls.

Nicola will suffer a breakdown as she struggles with the aftermath of the traumatic event.

On filming the forthcoming episodes, Nicola admits that they were “tough”.

“It is quite menacing when you’re on the ground looking up and there’s a circle of people around you.

“I really wouldn’t want to be in that scenario,” she told The Sunday Express.

“When we did the panic attack days, they were quite tough because I think I hyperventilated from 8am until 5pm.

“But it was quite nice because we sort of did the full breakdown and then we went back to the middle of the day, so I got a little bit of a reprieve where I was only slightly anxious towards the end of the day.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
