Tipping Point's Ben Shephard jokes player 'can't answer own name' in brutal jibe

Tipping Point host Ben Shephard brutally roasted one of his contestants after a very unsuccessful round on Wednesday’s show (December 28).

The GMB presenter didn’t hold back when he told the player she “probably wouldn’t have been able to answer her own name” during the show.

The hit ITV quiz show returned with a new episode on Wednesday after airing celebrity editions and repeat episodes during the Christmas period.

Players Mel, Andy and Ellie stepped into the studio to try their luck on the notoriously tough Tipping Point machine in the hopes of bagging a big cash prize.

However, teacher Mel struggled in the opening round and initially didn’t manage to rack up any cash at all – and things only got worse for her when she was faced with quickfire questions from Ben.

She only managed to answer two questions correctly in the allotted time, leaving Ben bitterly disappointed afterwards.

The exasperated presenter cried out: “Oh Mel!” as she giggled with embarassment.

He told her: “You’ve got two correct answers in there now,” with Mel cringing: “Oh dear.”

Ben then added: “I think at one point you probably wouldn’t have been able to answer your own name.”

As brutal as Ben’s joke was, Mel was still able to see the funny side of it as she burst out laughing, with Ben himself grinning too.

It was Mel who got knocked out after that, finishing with just £200 behind rivals Ellie and Andy who had both scored well over £1000 at that point.

But it was Andy who made it to the final and walked away with £2800 at the end of the show.

He decided to play it safe and take the money rather than trade it in for a chance to bag the £10k jackpot counter – a risky gamble that could have paid off big time.
