Danielle Lloyd has opened up about the moment she noticed a cancer warning sign after flicking through some of her old pictures – and has shared the symptoms to look out for
Former beauty queen Danielle Lloyd has revealed that she first suspected something was amiss when she noticed a change in a mole while looking at old photos.
In an interview with Closer magazine, the reality TV star explained: “I’d never noticed it before, but I looked at old pictures and it has always been there, just very small. It was changing shape and at first I thought nothing of it, but I’ve become more cautious as I’ve got older so I decided to go to the doctor.”
After visiting her doctor and having the mole removed, Danielle was given the devastating news that she had cancer. The mum-of-five recalled: “I was trying to hold it together, but then I just broke down” and added: “I was just so shocked.”
Danielle, who was crowned Miss England and Miss Great Britain, shared her diagnosis with her followers on Instagram last month, expressing her desire to raise awareness about the condition.
The 41-year-old has appeared in numerous reality TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother, Weakest Link, Total Wipeout, Come Dine With Me, and SAS: Who Dares Wins.
The NHS has highlighted that there are various types of skin cancer Brits need to be aware of, including the more serious melanoma skin cancers and the less severe non-melanoma skin cancers, reports Surrey Live.
Melanoma, known for its severity, can spread to other organs and is often triggered by “ultraviolet (UV) light, which comes from the sun and is used in sunbeds.”
Watch out for changes in an existing mole or the appearance of a new one, as it’s a key symptom.
On the flip side, non-melanoma skin cancer, which includes basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), originates in the skin’s top layer. Like its melanoma counterpart, it’s also mainly caused by UV light exposure.
