  • Gabrielle Union Insists 'America's Got Talent' Dispute Is Not Publicity Stunt

    Marie Claire Magazine/Djeneba Aduayom

The former judge of the television talent show slams suggestions that her racism and misconduct accusations against the show following her exit were a calculated scheme to get public attention.
    Oct 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gabrielle Union has slammed speculation that her decision to bring forward allegations of racism and misconduct on the set of “America’s Got Talent” was a publicity stunt.
The actress was fired from her judging role on the competition show last year (19) after just one season, and claimed she was let go after complaining about behind-the-scenes comments and experiences.
Union and NBC bosses met up in December to thrash things out and the TV chiefs agreed to conduct an investigation, following which they declared they had uncovered no wrongdoing and had closed the case.
While they’ve come to an “amicable resolution” with the actress, the “L.A.’s Finest” star tells Marie Claire magazine producers gave her “excessive notes” about her appearance and deemed her hairstyles “too black,” and insists, “I should be able to exist however the f**k I want to exist.”

“Because if you’re hiring Gabrielle Union for my talent, then my talent is going to come out of my body in every way, shape, and incarnation that I can imagine,” she adds. “You’re getting more bang for your buck the more you allow me to exist as I see fit.”

Union goes on to admit she was disappointed that high-profile black NBC talent, like Al Roker and Terry Crews, didn’t publicly support her, and addresses skeptics who believe her battle with NBC was all about publicity and retribution for being fired.
“That very sentiment is how all of this has been allowed to go on for centuries,” she explains. “That kind of gaslighting, I categorically reject. You are not going to gaslight me into minimising my trauma, which is exactly what allows this to continue on for the next person.”
After an investigation into Union’s dismissal, NBC bosses insisted they said uncovered no wrongdoing, but added in a statement to the New York Post’s gossip column Page Six, “NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds can be treated with respect.”

    Sep 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gabrielle Union has reached a deal with NBC network bosses over her “America’s Got Talent” discrimination and misconduct claims.
The actress was fired from her judging role on the competition show last year (19) after just one season, and claimed she was let go after complaining about behind-the-scenes comments and experiences.
Union and NBC bosses met up in December (19) to thrash things out and the TV chiefs agreed to conduct an investigation, following which they declared they had uncovered no wrongdoing and had closed the case.
But now they’ve come to an “amicable resolution” with the actress.
“NBC Entertainment appreciates the important concerns raised by Gabrielle Union and remains committed to ensuring an inclusive and supportive working environment where people of all backgrounds can be treated with respect,” a statement reads.

Details of the deal have not been disclosed but Deadline sources claim Union has received “significant” compensation.
The actress recently revealed her exit from “America’s Got Talent” was one of the hardest things she’s ever dealt with.
During a Minding Her Business panel discussion at the virtual American Black Film Festival in August (20), she compared the drama to a “public flogging.”
“That whole process was really brutal and knowing that I brought my team into that, it just sucked.”
In June, she filed a harassment complaint against NBC, claiming the network’s entertainment chief, Paul Telegdy, tried to silence her reports of racism. Union called NBC “a snake pit of racial offences” and later alleged that representatives for the organisation had threatened her agent.

    Sep 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – “America’s Got Talent” aired its season 15 finale on Wednesday, September 23. The episode kicked off with a number of stunning performances, including a duet from Cristina Rae and Ryan Tedder. Bishop Briggs also joined forces with The Bello Sisters. Archie Williams, who gained support from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, also performed together with Marvin Winans.
Also performing that night was Blake Shelton who was joined by Broken Roots. Meanwhile, Roberta Battaglia, Kenadi Dodds and Julia Michaels offered a powerful performance. Another duet performance was from Ava Max and Daneliya Tuleshova who sang “Kings and Queens”.
Following a series of the amazing performances, it was time to reveal the Top 5. They were Alan Silva, Cristina Rae, Broken Roots, Roberta Battaglia and Brandon Leake. Host Terry Crews later announced that Alan was the act occupying the 5th place.

Roberta came in 4th place, with Cristina Rae in 3rd place. “My baby is gonna be on this stage, and he’s going to win,” she said while in tears. Judge Heidi Klum, who gave Cristina her Golden Buzzer, also became emotional. She told her, “You are a winner in my heart.”
Things now narrowed down between Brandon Leake and Broken Roots. The two of them were amazing, but there would be only one winner who will be given $1 million and a headline show in Las Vegas. The winner is Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer act Brandon Leake! He marks the first spoken word artist to win “America’s Got Talent”.
“I’ve been here for 11 years and have watched it for 15 years. I have never had a Golden Buzzer where I think there is gravitas, timing and importance behind it like never before,” Howie said to PEOPLE following the finale.
“Brandon is doing work that really needs to be done. People are listening to his words and relating to it. To steal from Oprah [Winfrey], he’s given us so many ah-ha moments that you don’t normally get on a talent show. I think he’s more than just talent and I’m so proud to be even a small part to witness this and be a part of this show,” he gushed.

Kicking off the night, Terry announced the ones that placed in 4th, 5th and 6th after the voting session ended. One of them would be sent to the finals before judges, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara, picked one of the other two.
Singers Celina and Cristina Rae were later called for them to hear their results. Only one of them moved to the finals and it was Cristina! Before Terry revealed more results, viewers were treated to a performance by mentalist Colin Cloud, who had the three judges secretly write a word on their board. Colin guessed the words correctly and further made it more jaw-dropping as he enlisted fellow “AGT” alums, including Shin Lim, Darci Lynne Farmer and Kodi Lee, in his tricks.

    Sep 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – “America’s Got Talent” aired the second night of its season 15 semi-finals featuring 11 acts performed for the judges, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara. Simon Cowell was still absent as he’s recovering from back surgery. The episode, which aired on Tuesday, September 15 on NBC, also brought back wild card selections.
The first performer that night was Simon’s Golden Act winner W.A.F.F.L.E. Crew. The group attempted to step up their game for their performance for the semi-finals as they lit up an old truck repair shop on the studio lot. They also explored every inch of it with tricks. They earned huge praises from the judges as Sofia said that their performance perfectly showed their personality and passion.

Following up was singer Kenadi Dodds, who sang Thomas Rhett’s “Be a Light”. Howie loved her performance, noting that she sounded beautiful. Sofia, meanwhile, praised Kenadi’s song choice, saying that it was the “perfect sentiment for the night.” Additionally, Sofia called Kenadi a “confident pop star.”

As for Magic Max, he invited Heidi to join her in a roulette-inspired trick. He asked her, the other judges, host Terry Crews and even live audience guests to select a number from the table. He amazingly correctly predicted all six numbers. After Bello Sisters performed their impressive routine, Celina opted to sing “Jealous” by Labrinth from the top of a studio lot building at night. While it was a delicate performance, Howie claimed that he wasn’t sure if that was enough to make her stay in the competition.

Later, Jonathan Goodwin performed with another jaw-dropping dangerous act. He was seen riding a zip line 60 feet in the air to land on a platform 80 feet away. Howie said that it was terrifying yet amazing.

Cristina Rae then belted out Cynthia Erivo’s “Jump”. Heidi was totally into the performance as she pleaded for the audience to vote for her. Sofia echoed the sentiment as she claimed that Cristina perfectly nailed the performance. BAD Salsa, meanwhile, performed from India. The pair’s precision in the performance earned them a standing ovation. All judges showered them with praises as Howie called them amazing.

The next performer was Brett Loudermilk, who invited Howie to be his assistant. Prior to that, he had Sofia and Heidi randomly picked one picture, a photo of a rubber ducky, among a stack of images. Much to everyone’s surprise, Brett revealed that he had previously swallowed a rubber ducky and then choked it up on stage. Heidi laughed but she thought it was a “little disgusting.”

Concluding the night was Daneliya Tuleshova who performed a rendition of Jessie J’s “Who You Are”. The judges gave her a standing ovation with Sofia saying that she’s shining like a star. Heidi also noted that her performance would definitely be among the top list of what America would vote.
Results of tonight’s performance will be revealed in the Wednesday, September 16 episode of “America’s Got Talent”.

    Sep 10, 2020

Moving on, Terry called Spyros Bros and Dance Town Family. He shocked everyone when he announced that none of the two were moving onto the finals.
Later, it was Broken Roots and Double Dragon’s turn to find out their fate. They performed solid performances last night so viewers expected one of them to be the first finalist announced that night. Heading to the finals was Broken Roots.
Thomas Day, who caught flak yesterday for allegedly lying about the reason of his sudden withdrawal in the quarterfinals, and Brandon Leake were called next. Brandon was unsurprisingly announced to join Broken Roots in the finals. Singers Shaquira McGrath and Roberta Battaglia later went head-to-head in the next results. As soon as Roberta was named as the one who moved onto the finals, she couldn’t help but cry. Judge Sofia Vergara, who pressed her Golden Buzzer for her, expressed her excitement, exclaiming, “You’re perfect!”
It’s time to find out who won the Dunkin’s Save. Among Archie Williams, Alan Silva and Malik DOPE, America voted for Alan Silva, so he went to the finals. As for the last two acts, their fate was determined by the judges. One of them was saved, while the other was forced to go home.
It wasn’t an easy decision, but Sofia eventually picked Archie. Howie Mandel, meanwhile, decided to save Malik. Heidi Klum was the one who made the call. After much deliberation, she went with Archie! Congratulations to Broken Roots, Brandon Leakes, Roberta Battaglia, Alan Silva and Archie Williams.

  • 'AGT' Fans Call Thomas Day a 'Disgrace' for Lying About Reason of His Withdrawal

    NBC

In the Tuesday, September 8 episode of the show, in which he performed as a wildcard act, it was revealed that he dropped out because he and his mother contracted with COVID-19.
    Sep 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – The new episode episode of “America’s Got Talent” featured performances from wildcard acts, including singer Thomas Day who mysteriously dropped out of the quarterfinals. In the new episode, which aired on Tuesday, September 8, it was then revealed that he dropped out because he and his mother contracted with COVID-19.
“I was scared for my health. My mom and I were fortunate – we got through it,” Thomas, who performed Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over” that night, said of his return. “I’ve watched the show. I’ve seen all the people go through. And I mean, I know my dream is over. I’m just waiting for the flight to go back home – and out of nowhere, on the last day of quarantine, that’s when I got the call when they told me I was being brought back on the show as a wild card. I feel so blessed and thankful.”
However, the revelation only made fans angry because that wasn’t what the heartthrob singer said to a fan on Cameo last week. At the time, he shared that he had to leave the NBC show because his high school football schedule had conflicted with the show.
Accusing him of being a liar, one enraged fan tweeted, “Don’t vote for Thomas Day! He’s a liar and sold his reason for leaving #agt and then he gets to come back and avoid a whole week of voting???” Someone else added, “I already wasn’t voting for Thomas Day but lying about why he dropped out for sympathy makes me like him even less #agt.”
Another fan noted that it was unfair, saying, “I am sorry, but why is Thomas Day back after literally WITHDRAWING from the competition? This is extremely unfair to those who actually deserve the wildcard spot. I am sorry Thomas, but you are not getting my vote this week. #AGT.”
“[email protected] #AGT Why did Thomas Day state that Football was his reason for exiting the competition . Yet now his reason is Covid 19. Just be truthful in your reason. He should not be a wildcard unless he is truthful,” one other chimed in. Meanwhile, a user called Thomas “a disgrace.”
