    Jul 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – “America’s Got Talent” returned with a new episode on Tuesday, July 14 for final season 15 auditions. It started normally in the studio, sans an audience, with judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara and Howie Mandel witnessing the contestants perform in person. As for Heidi Klum, she was still at home due to health reason.
Kicking off the show was Alex Hooper, who was booed off the stage when he performed two seasons ago. Now, he offered a much improved performance, much to the judges’ liking. Following it up was The Lightwave Theater Company, who took the stage with their lifesize puppetry. Sofia loved it and called it “very special.”

Singer Kameron Ross then sang “Red Dirt Road” but Simon stopped him midway his performance to ask him sing a capella. It was much better and Kameron moved on to the next round. John Austin later gave a bizarre yet interesting performance. First, it looked like he was just saying gibberish, but when it was played in reverse, it turned out that he was singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. Howie gave him a standing ovation. While Simon didn’t dig into it, Sofia sent John to the next round with a second yes.

Gabrielle Union on 'AGT' Row: NBC Needs to Do More to Stop Executives From Intimidating Talent

    Instagram

In the wake of his controversial exit from ‘America’s Got Talent’, the former judge calls NBC’s plan to prevent toxic environment ‘a great start’ but says it’s not enough.
    Jul 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gabrielle Union has praised NBC’s plans to address workplace harassment as a “great start” but insisted they need to do more to “stop executives from intimidating talent.”
On Tuesday (7Jul20) Union took to Twitter to comment on the network’s plans, which, according to The Hollywood Reporter, were revealed in a memo from NBCUniversal TV and streaming chairman Mark Lazarus on the same day.
Lazarus’s memo detailed the company’s move to expand protections for employees against toxic workplace environments on shows produced by NBC and by third-party production companies.
“Great start by NBC to recognize the need to not turn away & ignore racial & gender discrimination on programs like #AGT,” the “Bad Boys” star tweeted, in response to the report.
But she added, “More changes are needed however. Like stopping executives from intimidating talent from sharing their experience of racism in their own workplace investigations.”
The former “America’s Got Talent” judge went public with allegations of harassment and discrimination she witnessed and experienced during her time as a judge on the NBC show during season 14.
Union said that the network needs to do more in the future to protect employees from network leadership, and reiterated her allegation that she’d faced intimidation from an unnamed NBC executive.
The announcement by Lazarus comes after the company’s internal investigation concluded, “no one associated with the show made any insensitive or derogatory remarks about Ms. Union’s appearance, and that neither race nor gender was a contributing factor in the advancement or elimination of contestants at any time.”

'America's Got Talent' Builds Drive-in Theatre to Resume Production

    NBC

The contestants are expected to perform on an outdoor stage at a drive-in theater that allows the judges to watch the performances while social distancing.
    Jul 2, 2020
AceShowbiz – “America’s Got Talent” has resumed production on an outdoor stage to allow judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, and Howie Mandel space to watch performances while socially distancing.
Just six episodes of the popular TV talent show had been completed before filming ground to a halt during the audition stage in mid-March (20) as the coronavirus pandemic began, but series creator Cowell was determined to find a way to allow successful contestants the opportunity to compete as normal and continue shooting season 15.
Production picked up again last week (ends26Jun20) ahead of “America’s Got Talent” live episodes, with the show moved out of its usual location at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to an outdoor set-up in Simi Valley, California, where officials designed a stage to look like a drive-in movie theatre.
The first post-shutdown instalment will feature the four judges entering the venue in separate cars, before taking their seats in socially-distanced director’s chairs, as they make their picks for the Judge Cuts segment, which has been reduced from the usual four episodes to just one, airing in the U.S. on 28 July (20).
Meanwhile, the production plan’s new safety precautions also include mandatory face masks for everyone on set when not talking on camera, individuals handling their own microphones, and crewmembers sticking to their specifically assigned areas throughout shooting to prevent intermingling between different teams.
Officials have yet to decide where the live shows will be filmed, but producers are reportedly trying to find a way to include an audience of some sort during the episodes, which are due to start on 11 August, according to TheWrap.

‘I’ve never seen anything more horrible!’ the judge tells Chef Boy Bonez, who makes her scared so much that she trips and falls onto some audience members because of his performance.

Chef Boy Bonez took the stage to show off his rapping skills. But it was his disturbing eye trick that received so much attention. He approached the judges’ panel before unexpectedly popping out his eye balls in front of Sofia, much to her surprise.
She quickly stood up and went to the back because of the terrifying sight. She was so scared that she tripped and fell onto some audience members. The “Modern Family” star stayed sitting on the lap of some until the wild performance was over. Meanwhile, Eric yelled, “I can’t look! They are still out! Put them back in!”
“I’ve never seen anything more horrible!” Sofia hilariously told the Chef Boy Bonez following the performance. He then responded, “Horrible?!” and popped his eyes at her again. “You’re gonna hurt yourself! How was I the only one that gave him an X?” she exclaimed.
The Colombian star pushed her X buzzer for Chef Boy Bonez, hoping to eliminate him. However, the other judges gave him a yes. “I think there’s a market for this,” Simon argued. “I always say this: Without acts like you, we don’t exist. So I’m going to kick us off with a yes (vote).”

“Eric, don’t betray me,” Sofia told Eric, who then responded, “This is ridiculous. I don’t deserve this. Heidi deserves this. I’ll tell you what. This is probably the only day I’m going to be here this season, so I’m going to torture the rest of you guys with a ‘yes.’ ”
Also among those who auditioned that night were Extreme Dance Force, comedian Ty Barnett, Australian singer Annie Jones, Nashville guitar player Jesse Krame and Bone Breakers.

Gabrielle Union Accuses NBC Boss of Trying to 'Silence and Intimidate' Her Amid 'AGT' Row

    Instagram

The former judge of ‘America’s Got Talent’ has hired a top lawyer as she’s preparing to launch a lawsuit against ‘AGT’ producers following ‘toxic’ workplace allegations.
    Jun 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Gabrielle Union has filed a complaint against Simon Cowell and his Syco Entertainment partners over her dismissal from “America’s Got Talent”.
The actress exited the show after just one season at the end of 2019 and maintains her departure came as a result of complaints she made about the “toxic” working environment behind the scenes, referencing harassment, inappropriate behaviour and misogynistic conduct.
Union sat down with the TV show’s bosses at the end of last year 2019 to outline her issues and the producers carried out an independent investigation into her claims. Last week, as the 2020 season of “AGT” began, they pledged to improve reporting processes behind the scenes thanks to Union’s complaints about diversity off-camera.
NBC, Fremantle and Syco officials issued a joint statement about the results from the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the firing of the former judge and concluded that “no one associated with the show made any insensitive or derogatory remarks about Ms. Union’s appearance, and that neither race nor gender was a contributing factor in the advancement or elimination of contestants at any time.”
“While the investigation has demonstrated an overall culture of diversity, it has also highlighted some areas in which reporting processes could be improved,” the statement continued. “NBC, Fremantle and Syco share Ms. Union’s dedication to diversity and inclusion in the industry. We continue to remain committed to having an inclusive environment for everyone associated with the show, and to upholding AGT as one of the most diverse programs on television.”
Now Union has responded with her intent to sue Cowell, Syco, Freemantle Productions North America, and Universal TV by filing a harassment, discrimination and retaliation complaint with California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
As part of the document, obtained by Deadline, she claims NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy directly intervened in the investigation, sparked by her complaints, to “silence and intimidate” her.
Tough Hollywood lawyer Bryan Freedman, who previously helped Megyn Kelly win a multi-million dollar payout from NBC following her 2018 exit from the network, has signed on to represent the actress.
He writes, “On or about February 4, 2020, Telegdy threatened Union through her agent and warned Union’s agent that Union had better cease from pursuing her claims of racism while filming AGT. Union’s agent was shocked that the Chairman of NBC Entertainment was attempting to threaten and intimidate Union. Union’s agent could not recall another instance in his career when a senior executive at a network had threatened and intimidated an employee during an ongoing workplace investigation…”
“It thus became clear to Union that Telegdy was not merely attempting to silence Union in the media, but attempting to silence Union from making any further comments to the investigator.”
Speaking to Deadline on Thursday, June 4, 2020, Freeman said, “There is no place for this type of racial bullying in the workplace, and it is going to take more than a Tweet from NBC to demonstrate that NBC intends to create an environment free from racism.”
