The Weeknd Claims to Be Owing His Early Success to Ariana Grande

    WENN

The ‘Starboy’ hitmaker, who teamed up with the ‘7 Rings’ singer for the 2014 hit ‘Love Me Harder’, opens up about how he got in touch with super producer Max Martin.
    Apr 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Weeknd owes his early career success to Ariana Grande after his collaboration with the pop star led him to super producer Max Martin.
The “Starboy” hitmaker teamed up with Ariana for the 2014 hit “Love Me Harder”, which was produced by record-breaking hitmaker Martin, and he now reveals that meeting him led to the creation of his breakout tracks “In the Night”, “Can’t Feel My Face” and the songs on his triple platinum release, “Starboy”.
“Ariana was kinda my foot in the door with Max, my chance to show him ‘I can play this game,’ y’know?” The Weeknd tells Variety. “But when we got in the room together, we didn’t really connect as much. Then someone invited him to a show I did at the Hollywood Bowl, and he saw 15,000 people singing along, and I think he was like, ‘OK, there’s something I’m not getting.’ ”
He adds, “So we sat down again, and the first song we created was ‘In the Night’.”

The singer dropped his fourth album, “After Hours”, last month.

Ariana Grande Looks Back at 'Most Special Years' of Her Life on 10th Anniversary of 'Victorious'

    Nickelodeon

Sharing a series of throwback photos from her time on the Nickelodeon show, the ‘7 Rings’ hitmaker says she ‘couldn’t have spent her teenage years with a better, more funny, talented group of human beings.’
    Mar 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ariana Grande celebrated the 10th anniversary of her teen sitcom “Victorious” by remembering the experience as some of the “most special years” of her life.
The pop superstar began her career on Broadway, but rose to fame after playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon show, which ran for four seasons from 2010.
“Victorious”, created by Dan Schneider, was set in a Hollywood performing arts school and centred on an aspiring singer, portrayed by Victoria Justice, with co-stars including Daniella Monet, Leon Thomas III, and Matt Bennett.
On Thursday night, March 26, Ariana took to Instagram to share a series of throwback photos from her time on the show, after reading a similar post by Monet and becoming emotional.
“ten years of ‘victorious’,” she began. “daniella’s post got me all in my feels now so i’m sorry for the mushiness but…. jus want to say how grateful i will always be for being on this show and for those years of my life. i couldn’t have spent my teenage years with a better, more funny, talented group of human beings. i really loved playing cat valentine (sic)…”
Ariana, who also appeared in a short-lived Sam & Cat spin-off, went on to reminisce about “getting in trouble” with her friends on set and “trying not to laugh” during more dramatic scenes, and confessed she even missed “waking up with dye stained pillows”, thanks to the red hair treatment she had to undergo for her character.
“thank u @danwarp (Schneider) and to my cast mates for some of the most special years of my life and for bringing all of us into each other’s lives (sic),” she concluded. “happy anniversary!”

Ariana’s sweet show tribute prompted old pal Justice to comment, “Such a special time. Memories I will always cherish. Love u guys (sic)”, while Monet added, “Love you, and this, and all that we shared. Such special years”.

Justin Bieber Credits Ariana Grande for Giving Him 'Boost' to Return to Music Industry

    WENN/Avalon/Nicky Nelson

In a new interview, the Canadian superstar admits taking the stage alongside the ‘Thank U, Next’ singer at Coachella last year pushed him to end his music hiatus.
    Feb 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Justin Bieber was inspired to make his return to music after making an appearance during Ariana Grande’s Coachella set.
The “Baby” hitmaker credits taking the stage alongside the pop star last year for pushing him to end his hiatus, revealing he initially struggled with anxiety over how his new material would be received.
“I was dealing with a lot of fear, a lot of just… was afraid of, at that point, just even the process,” he tells Beats 1 with Zane Lowe. “What am I going to talk about again? Is it going to be received? I’m starting to compare with other artists.”
He added, “I think when I went on stage with Ariana Grande, I seen the reaction of how people reacted when I went on the stage (sic). It was like, ‘Okay.’ She gave me kind of a boost of confidence and reminded me because it’d been so long since I’d been on stage. Just kind of reminded me… ‘Oh, this is what I do. This is what I’m good at.’ And I don’t need to run away from it.”
The experience taught the singer to face his fears head on rather than let them stop him.
“I was running away,” he shares. “I think a lot of us need to take that when something’s hard. It’s almost like we need to run towards the pain and run towards the hurt rather than run away from it. I think you get kind of healing when it comes to that.”

Bieber’s fifth album, “Changes”, dropped last Friday, February 14.

Ariana Grande: Album 'Thank U, Next' Gave Her the Courage to Be Vulnerable and Honest

    Republic Records

The ‘7 Rings’ singer celebrates the first anniversary of her fifth studio album and credits the record that features songs like ‘Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’ for ‘literally saving her life.’
    Feb 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ariana Grande reflected on the lasting impact her “life-saving” record “Thank U, Next” has had on her as she celebrated its first anniversary on Friday, February 7, 2020.
The 26-year-old singer released the hit album following the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and a failed engagement to comedian Pete Davidson – just six months after her previous effort, “Sweetener”, dropped.
In a candid Instagram post, Grande confessed the album gave her the courage to “be vulnerable and be honest with people”, explaining, “Making this project with so many dear friends quite literally saved my life and gave me the courage to be vulnerable and be honest with people.”
“Thank u (sic) for making me feel heard, safe and incredibly human,” she added.
Explaining working on the record, which included tunes “7 Rings” and “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored”, had been “so healing,” she admitted talking about her struggles helped her “connect with so many people over my truths and pain.”
“I know that should have clicked for me sooner but it didn’t and i want to thank u for showing me first hand that it is okay. all of it,” she said.

Ariana went on to say that she has been working on new music but it may be a little way off yet.
“I have been writing and creating a lot lately and it feels nice. i am in no rush to pop anything out of the oven yet !!” the God Is a Woman star wrote. “But i do look forward to this new chapter and sharing more stories / life with u. :)”
The hitmaker concluded, “Sending a tremendous, warm hug.”

Interview: Rob Thorman on ‘Head Of State’

the great thing about the VAULT Festival is that it’s a genuine Fringe Festival

With the VAULT Festival almost upon us, there is an abundance of fresh new shows to be seen. One such show is Head Of State, which will be having its world premiere beneath Waterloo Station. But before it does, Everything Theatre caught up with Rob Thorman, writer, director and founder of Grande Productions, to ask about the show, the importance of the festival and what some might call his obsession with Ariana Grande.
Your show’s called Head of State, what’s it all about then?
Head of State follows Mo – the newly-elected leader of the fictional country Nechora – as he accidentally becomes an over-the-phone therapist to the world’s most powerful leaders.
So did you have certain world leaders in mind when you were writing?
I was actually actively trying to ensure that the characters of the different foreign leaders weren’t going to be confused with contemporary ones. Rather than explore the idiosyncrasies of the politicians of the moment, I was trying to get under the skin of countries’ national psyches more generally and explore whether I could distil every country’s complex national problems into a single personality disorder. I’ll let the audience be the judge of how successfully I’ve managed that. On the otherhand, Mo’s character was very much inspired by some of the real-life politicians that I admire the most; Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Faiza Shaheen and Magid Magid.
The show is billed as satire, do you fear that satire is becoming more difficult given some of the real-life events going on all around us?
I think that’s a really important and interesting question which the industry at large hasn’t quite figured out the answer to yet. How can you parody the real world when it already feels so absurd? For me, the answer is that when reality descends into farce, satire must descend into fantasy. Aristophanes, one of the earliest satirists, had the most incredible and fantastical plots: characters travelling down to the underworld to find a decent playwright, characters running away to build a new perfect city in the clouds, women going on a sex strike to bring about peace.. . Aristophanes lived in a time when the direct democracy at Athens was packed with politicians who were capitalising on fervent nationalism and making populist decisions that felt absolutely bonkers to a lot of contemporary commentators… Sound familiar!? So to answer your question, no I don’t think satire is becoming more difficult at all, it just needs to be reinvented to reflect the unreal reality we’re living through. I fear the direction the world is heading in; I don’t fear the fate of satire!
Your production company is called Grande Productions and you confess to a love of Ariana Grande. Do you think she would enjoy the show if she came to see it?

Rob and cast at script read through

I mean, if she didn’t, I’m not sure I could cope. As Akshay, who plays Mo, said after our readthrough, there are some seriously deep cuts of Ariana’s catalogue in there – the show doesn’t just take her charting hits, you know? Also, a few months ago, Ariana came out in support of Bernie (Sanders) so I feel like she’d be a big fan of Mo and everything he’s trying to do… Right? RIGHT!?!
The show is seeing its first life at The VAULT Festival, how important do you think this festival is becoming for both London and new theatre makers? Do you feel it has helped open new avenues to shows such as yours?
For me, the great thing about the VAULT Festival is that it’s a genuine Fringe Festival. For a start, it’s much more affordable and possible to put on a show. Then there’s a sense that people will seek out new shows and explore what’s on there, especially as the programmers have made a real effort to commission a ton of shows that are all contemporary, relevant and engaged with what’s going on in the world today. I was able to ‘just’ fill in an application and be given a slot, even though I really don’t have much experience of theatre. It’s definitely a fantastic avenue and resource for Londoners looking to put on theatre and get their work out there, so I’m incredibly grateful for everything the people at the VAULT Festival do.
What can we expect next, for both yourself and Head of State?
Well, I’m expecting a phone call from Hollywood asking me when I can fly out and why I still haven’t managed to get representation back in London yet. No, back in the real world, I would just love it if we could get to take Head of State on to some more festivals for a longer run and keep growing its audience. As for me, I’ve got a bunch of other scripts, projects and ideas – some political, some less so – that I’d love to start bringing to life. But in the meantime, I’ll just keep working on writing them and making them as good as I possibly can… until I get that phone call!
