Caroline Flack dead: Ant and Dec lead tributes to former Love Island presenter

Ant and Dec led the tributes to Caroline Flack after the troubled TV presenter took her own life this weekend.

Posting on Twitter after the 40-year-old was found dead in her East London flat, the superstar duo said they were “devastated” at news of Caroline’s suicide.

They wrote: “We are both devastated to hear the news about Caroline Flack. It is beyond sad.

“Beyond words. So tragic. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. Rest In Peace Caroline XX”

Caroline’s heartbroken family confirmed the tragic news today.

They said in a statement “We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.

“We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.”

A lawyer for the Flack family added that Caroline took her own life and was found in her east London flat on Saturday.

Jonathan Ross said: ”I am very sad to hear that Caroline Flack is dead. I had been in touch with her recently and had hoped she was doing better.

“She was talented and smart and likeable and she will he missed. It’s awful.”

Coleen Rooney added: “Heartbreaking… people really don’t know what others are going through or feel.

“Thoughts and prayers are with Caroline’s family and friends. Rest in PEACE Caroline.”

Caroline’s death comes after she stepped down from presenting Love Island following an assault charge after an incident with her boyfriend, Lewis Burton, 27.

She pleaded not guilty in December and was released on bail awaiting trial next month.

Laura Whitmore, who replaced Caroline on Love Island, said “I’m trying to find the words but I can’t,” adding a photograph of herself with Caroline, and a screenshot of a poem, while Susanna Reid wrote: “My heart is absolutely broken for Caroline Flack and everybody who loves her.”

A statement from the Love Island team said: “Everybody at Love Island and ITV is shocked and saddened by this desperately sad news. Caroline was a much loved member of the Love Island team and our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends.”
