Danny Dyer praised for being ‘voice of reason’ as his benefits comments go viral

Danny Dyer found his name trending on social media this weekend after eagle-eyed fans discovered some unearthed comments that he made five years ago.

The EastEnders actor released his book entitled The World According To Danny Dyer: Life Lessons from the East End in 2015, and spoke about people who are on benefits.

A specific quote in the enlightening book reads: “People bang on about benefits culture, all that. There are p**s-takers, no one doubts that.

“But I know plenty of people on benefits who work hard – it’s just they don’t get paid enough to cover the basics of life.”

He continued: “Now you can say, ‘Get off your a**e and get a better job.’ All right, say everyone does that. Who’s gonna actually do the s***ty jobs then?

“If you’re working forty hours a week and you can’t cover your bills, that ain’t your fault. It’s the fault of the s**gs paying you.”

He went on to say that if people need to claim benefits as well as working they should go ahead and claim them and not feel guilty because “it’s not you who is getting the benefit anyway, it’s your employer”.

Danny made some very valid points about people on benefits in his 2015 book

“They pay you s**t and expect the state to pick up the rest of the tab,” the 43-year-old actor added.

Due to the current economic climate in the UK, which has seen many people lose their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, many could clearly relate to Danny’s comments.

Taking to Twitter, users began circulating the comments – which resulted in Danny trending.

“If someone had said to me in January that the three voices of reason for 2020 would be Piers Morgan, Marcus Rashford and Danny Dyer I’d have laughed at them,” one person posted.

A second tweeted: “Danny Dyer is quickly becoming one of my favourite people, this is spot on.”

A third person added: “Danny Dyer spot on again,” while people who didn’t previously agree with the outspoken star, admitted that they now do.

“Never thought I’d agree with Danny Dyer about anything but this says it all really,” one person posted.
