EastEnders fans 'work out' Linda 'will drown in Thames' after cryptic clues

EastEnders fans are eagerly awaiting the 35th anniversary special, which will see one person die on Mick and Linda Carter’s Thames boat party to celebrate them winning a pub of the year award.

Last night’s episode featured a number of moments which have now convinced viewers that it will be actress Kellie Bright leaving the EastEnders cast, with Linda drowning.

At one point, Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) brought a photo to Linda that depicted the first owners of the Queen Vic in the 1800s, Mr and Mrs Bagstock.

Sharon told Linda how Mr Bagstock had drowned Mrs Bagstock in the bath, which could be foreshadowing Linda potentially drowning in the Thames.

EastEnders viewers flocked to Twitter with their predictions, with one saying: “Sharon talking to Linda about the first Queen Vic owner drowning in the bath and someone is supposed to drown in the Thames for the anniversary. Coincidence? I think not.”

Another wrote: “No Linda, Mick ain’t gonna drown you in the bath, he will wait until he gets you on the Thames.”

While a third, discussing Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda, wrote on Reddit: “I reckon he could see her drown and not do anything.”

Last night’s episode saw a drunk Linda slapping Mick with divorce papers, which echoed a storyline in EastEnders past between Angie and Den Watts.

So it’s clear the BBC soap isn’t afraid of repeating storylines, although the Bagstock murder was never actually shown on-screen with it happening decades ago.

However that wasn’t the only clue, with one Reddit user pointing out a poignant moment between Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) and Daniel Cook (Adrian Edmondson).

The couple were seen walking through the Square at night, with Jean telling Daniel: “Come on, you’ll catch your death.”

Then, as Daniel replied: “We all catch it at some point,” the camera slowly panned to Linda, who was sitting alone on a bench.

The Reddit user speculated: “I think that foreshadowed that she could die on the boat.”

There was a moment earlier this month that got viewers guessing too, when Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) sprayed Linda with water in the bath.

At the time, someone tweeted: “Shirley spraying water on Linda? Foreshadowing she’s gonna drown?”

Only time will tell – but it’s sure to be dramatic.

EastEnders continues on Monday at 8pm on BBC One
