Jesy Nelson tormented by trolls that left her suicidal before Little Mix exit

Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has announced she’s quit the band after almost a decade.

The 29-year-old singer admitted in her heartbreaking exit statement that being a member of the world’s biggest girl group has “really taken a toll” on her mental health.

Jesy has been extremely open about her mental health battles after being a victim of horrendous online abuse for several years.

She revealed in a heartfelt post shared in view of her 7.3million Instagram followers that she found the “constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard”.

Jesy revealed in her 2019 award-winning BBC Three documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out that she “just wanted to die” after she was trolled and fat-shamed by vicious keyboard warriors.

In a candid and tearful moment, Jesy recalled how she took an overdose in 2013 after taunts about her looks became too much to cope with.

She said: “I just remember thinking this is never going to go.

“I’m going to constantly wake up and feel sad for the rest of my life.

“So what is the point in being here? I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain any more.

“I remember going to the kitchen… then I laid in bed for ages and kept thinking, ‘Let it happen. Hurry up.'”

Her bandmates Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall were all heartbroken when they found out the devastating truth.

When Little Mix were announced as the X Factor winners back in 2011, Jesy said they were all “on cloud nine”.

However, her excitement was tainted by trolling just hours after winning the ITV singing show.

“I had about 101 Facebook messages in my inbox, and the first one that came up was from some random man, saying: ‘You are the ugliest thing I’ve seen in my life, you do not deserve to be in this girl band. You deserve to die’.”

The events led Jesy to delete her Twitter account and raise awareness of the impact social media can have on mental health.

Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne have confirmed that they will carry on as a three-piece band.
