John Bishop says he's 'getting stronger' in emotional update on Covid battle

John Bishop has given fans an update on his health after revealing he tested positive for Covid-19.

On Wednesday, the comedian, 54, and his wife Melanie confirmed they had contracted the virus, receiving their positive results on Christmas Day.

Now, John has assured fans he is fighting to return to full health, admitting he feels “stronger” with each passing day.

The Liverpudlian comic took to Twitter to share a statement with fans, having been inundated with messages since announcing he’d contracted the deadly virus.

He said: “Thank you for all the messages of support regarding my recent positive Covid test.

“‘I have been overwhelmed and moved by the amount of messages privately and publicly. Every day we are getting a little stronger and I will be back at work in Jan.

“Keep safe and Happy New Year John x.”

The stand-up star had admitted to feeling “flattened” by the virus just hours previously, describing his symptoms in a concerning post.

He said: “This is the worst illness I have ever had, debilitating headaches, muscle joint and even skin pain, dizziness, nausea, no appetite, incredibly chronic fatigue.

“My wife and I are fit nonsmokers and it’s flattened us. I don’t wish this on anyone.”

After sharing the statement, John’s celebrity pals and friends rushed to send messages of support, keeping the couple in their thoughts as they battled the virus.

The comedian, who has been wed to Melanie since 1993, lives with his wife in their Cheshire home.

They share three grown-up sons – Joe, 26, Luke, 24, and Daniel, 22.

John and Melanie’s positive Covid test comes amid a tightening of restrictions up and down the UK, ahead of this evening’s pared-back New Year’s Eve celebrations.

With the arrival of the mutant Covid strain on British shores, the public has been urged to stay at home in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.
