Speaking of potential side effects, Dr Amir said: “I feel fine, I may have a bit of a sore arm later, I don’t now.

“Some people may feel a little unwell for a few days after, that is normal, it’s your immune system reacting.”

He said: “It’s really important that when people get called up they go, people sitting at home thinking they’re reluctant – go. Ask yourself, what is the alternative?”

The medical professional also spoke to put people’s minds at ease if they are worried the vaccine is not compatible with their religious beliefs.

He said: “The Pfizzer vaccine does not contain any animal products.”

But one person tweeted: “As long as the vaccine is effective I don’t give a f*** what’s in it!”
