Phillip Schofield's Five Gold Rings shirt divides fans as he jokes about TV fail

Phillip Schofield has admitted he regrets his wardrobe choice for filming Sunday’s edition of Five Gold Rings – so much so, he wishes they filmed it in the dark.

The This Morning presenter took to Twitter on Sunday night to tweet along as the kooky show aired on ITV.

He quickly reached out to ITV costume designer David O’Brien to joke about the shiny silk shirt he had opted to wear for filming.

Phillip, 58, tweeted: “Hahaha @DAVIDOBRIEN75… it’s THAT shirt!!

“(We had no idea how shiny it was until we saw the show promo!!!)”

Not stopping there, he added: “I hate it,” before adding a string of laughing crying emojis.

Phillip Schofield says he wishes they had filmed the show in the dark due to his outfit choice

Seeing the funny side, David quickly replied: “Omg! That bloody shirt… it didn’t and doesn’t look like that in the flesh.

“I’m blaming lighting.”

Sharing David’s comment with his 4.5 million followers before joking: “If only we’d recorded the show in the f**king dark.”

Keeping the joke going, Phil then uploaded a shot of the shirt hanging in his flat.

Clearly regretting his outfit, Holly Willoughby’s co-host said: “Looook!!! It’s not shiny out of the studio!! #bold #hideous.”

The questionable wardrobe choice divided viewers of Five Gold Rings – with some loving the bold look, while others weren’t as keen on the eye-catching print.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: “I actually quite the shirt. Handy if you spill some red vino on it.”

Phillip says his shirt was far more shiny when it came to filming than he realised

“Think it’s a nice shirt,” a second praised.

A third continued: “Love this shirt , your looking as handsome as ever.”

Meanwhile, a fourth chimed in: “Sorry Phil I’m not too keen on your shirt tonight.”

Another teased: “It’s what I would call an Alfie Moon shirt.”

Five Gold Rings continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV
