Piers Morgan hits back at Ofcom complaints after GMB clash with Matt Hancock

Good Morning Britain has been hit with a flurry of complaints after Piers Morgan interviewed Heath Secretary Matt Hancock earlier this week.

The cutting chat saw Piers lay into the government minister about his handling of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a savage attack, Susanna Reid’s co-host brazenly demanded to know why Hancock had decided to stay in the job despite a string of errors.

The interview sparked 85 viewers to reach out to Ofcom to log an official complaint.

Meanwhile, The Sun add that a further 41 lodged complaints over a previous episode.

After seeing the news, Piers took to Twitter to joke he was ‘losing his touch’.

Posting to his 7.6 million followers, the former newspaper editor wrote: “Only 85????? Wow. I’m losing my touch.”

Pulling no punches during the live video link chat, Piers raged: “You are the Health Secretary, it’s on your watch. It turned out we had very little protective personal equipment for our health workers, so hundreds of them died.

“It then turned out that in care homes, far from having the ring of protection which you’d been boasting about, we actually sent thousands of elderly people out of hospitals and into care homes without testing them.”

Not resting up, the outspoken TV host added: “Given that we now have over 50,000 deaths in this country, which is the worst death toll in Europe, why are you still Health Secretary? Why haven’t you handed in your resignation?”

Squirming on the spot, Hancock tried to swerve the question and insisted there is more work to be done.

Trying to give his take on the situation, he replied: “We have been working incredibly hard for instance building the sort of testing capacity that we’re talking about today, expanding the number of tests available, making progress on the vaccine.

“That’s what I’ve been working on, and obviously this is critical period in the crisis.”

Despite the fiery exchange, Piers and Susanna will be pleased the boycott of their programme has come to an end.

For 201 days the government refused to appeared on Good Morning Britain despite regularly appearing on rivals BBC Breakfast and Sky News.

The move was thought to be a protest at Piers’ blunt interview technique .
