Sean Connery cause of death confirmed after James Bond star's heart failure

Sir Sean Connery’s cause of death has been confirmed after the actor died nearly a month ago aged 90.

The James Bond star died in his sleep in the early hours of Halloween.

Connery’s death certificate confirmed that the Hollywood actor died from respiratory failure as a result of pneumonia old age and atrial fibrillation – an irregular heart beat.

TMZ acquired the certificate, and showed how the film star died on October 31 at 1:30 AM at his luxurious mansion in Nassau.

Sean’s family announced his death last month, as they confirmed the sad news in a statement.

They said he “died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family”, adding: “There will be a private ceremony followed by a memorial yet to be planned once the virus has ended.”

The actor was the first to play James Bond on film, and he starred in the likes of Dr No, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again.

Connery’s Bond portrayal made 007 a household name, but at first author Ian Fleming had doubts about Connery’s casting for the iconic role.

Fleming wasn’t sure about giving the Scottish actor the part, as he said: “He’s not what I envisioned of James Bond looks.”

He also explained: “I’m looking for Commander Bond and not an overgrown stunt-man,” adding that Connery, who was muscular and stood at 6′ 2″, was unrefined.

Fleming’s girlfriend Blanche Blackwell told him that Connery had the requisite sexual charisma, and the author changed his mind after the success of Dr No.

Not only was his mind changed, but the writer also added Connery’s Scottish heritage into the character.

After Sean’s death, the James Bond official Twitter page shared a statement from producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

It read: “We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words – ‘The name’s Bond… James Bond’ – he revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent.

“He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”
