The Chase's Bradley Walsh accuses player of 'messing up' after 'nightmare' round

The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh is famed for his sense of humour, and the ITV star was on flying form during Monday’s episode.

Brad, who turned 60 earlier this year, accused contestant Lucy of suffering a “nightmare round” as she waited to hear whether she made it through to the final.

Lucy had, in fact, answered her question correctly, even though Bradley teased her about “messing right up” in the competition.

Nurse Lucy made £2,000 in the cash builder round and decided to plump for Chaser Darragh Ennis’ low offer of £1,000.

After a tense round of questions, Brad asked the final query: “What term describes a man unduly concerned with looking stylish and fashionable?”

Bradley poked fun at Lucy before congratulating her on the win

The answers included – nifty, peachy and dandy.

Without hesitation, Lucy chose correctly, slamming option “c” – dandy – before turning to face Ennis the Menace in the hot seat.

Ever the joker, Brad then remarked: “You’ve messed this right up. You’ve had a nightmare here.”

Shaking his head, he added: “This is a shocker by a country mile.”

However, when the board lit up green, and Lucy made it through to the final round, Brad was full of praise for the quiz hopeful.

He joked: “Yeah well I’ll give you this one. I’ll let you off.”

Before adding: “I think you’re a very good player – much better than your cash builder showed.”

New Chaser Darragh, who joined the show last month, was similarly impressed by Lucy’s performance, delighted to see she’d overcome her nerves.

He recalled: “You looked so nervous in your cash builder!”

Fellow contestant Karen, an interior designer, also made it through to the final, adding £5,000 to the prize pot before facing the Chaser.

Unfortunately, the pair only managed to get 10 questions correct, meaning it only took Darragh a matter of seconds to boot them out of the competition.

The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
