The Chase's Bradley Walsh calls out Anne Hegerty for terrible performance

The Chase host Bradley Walsh was left concerned during Thursday’s episode, as Anne Hegerty failed to answer a number of questions correctly.

The ITV quiz expert is usually a talented quizzer but gave a number of wrong answers in succession during the first round.

Firstly, she got a question about cartoon character Scooby-Doo wrong, swiftly followed by a query about scientist Marie Curie.

Worried about her performance, she told the contestants: “Clearly I’m an idiot today and you should all go high.”

Reaching out to presenter Bradley, she then remarked: “I don’t know anything today Brad, I’m sorry.”

Anne apologised for her performance after getting three questions wrong in the first round

Brad was quick to call her out, as he asked: “What’s happened today?

“Have you put your brain in a box and left it on a train?”

After three incorrect answers from Anne, the first contestant made it through to the final, as she quipped about leaving her “brain” backstage.

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers were concerned by her performance, as Anne usually blows them away with her expansive general knowledge.

One remarked: “Anne! What’s happening? Don’t give them the idea that they can beat you!”

Brad wondered whether Anne left her brain on the “train” in a playful joke

“Chaser @anne_hegerty suffers major brain fart in the 1st Head-to-head on tonight’s #TheChase This must be the only time I wish I was on the show,” said a second.

And a third penned: “Shocking start for Anne. Seat 2 gotta be looking to go high after that performance #TheChase.”

Thankfully, when the second contestant Raki stepped up to the plate, Anne appeared to return to her usual self.

Getting every single question correct, she eliminated Raki from the competition and breathed a sigh of relief.

Poking fun at her earlier defeat, Anne pretended she had found her “brain” backstage after hunting for it during the break.

She remarked: “My brain was back there, by the way, I saw it.”

The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
