Coronation Street fans distracted as Todd photo 'replaced' in Eileen scene

Coronation Street fans were quick to spot a change in the set design during Monday’s episode, as current photos of Todd Grimshaw appeared in number 11.

As Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) tried to come up with ways to rescue her son from the clutches of criminal Mick Costello, the camera panned to one of the tables in her lounge.

On the top of the table, two framed photos could be seen, with one depicting Todd as a child – however, the photo showed actor Gareth Pierce, rather than the original Todd star, Bruno Langley.

Later in the episode, more framed pics could be seen scattered around the living room, with many depicting Gareth at various stages of his life.

Bruno’s contract was terminated by ITV in 2017, and his character hasn’t been seen on the cobbles for the past three years.

Corrie fans were quick to notice the photos had been swapped

However, Gareth was recast in the role, returning tonight to stir up trouble for a conflicted Eileen.

Distracted, viewers took to Twitter to comment on the photo replacement, with some wondering how Eileen got her hands on the recent shot of Todd.

“Todd must be a timelord because he has regenerated into a new person. Even the pictures in the living room don’t have Bruno Langley on them. #Corrie,” said one.

A second added: “How come Eileen had a recent photo of Todd?”

Several fans were convinced they’d spotted updated photos of Todd in the background

And a third remarked: “As if Eileen has a photo of the new Todd in her living room.”

While the fourth chimed: “Where did the pictures of New Todd come from? I could’ve sworn the pictures of Old Todd were still there the other night!”

Putting the mystery to bed, last month actor Gareth revealed Corrie bosses had swapped Bruno’s childhood photos for his own in an effort to create continuity.

The 39-year-old actor, who is originally from Wales, added the framed pics made him feel a kinship with actor Ryan Thomas, who formerly played his on-screen brother Jason Grimshaw.

He said: “I don’t know Ryan we haven’t met or worked together before, but it’s really funny actually because the on-set family photos, in number 11, in the Grimshaw’s house.

“All the Todd ones are now of my childhood, pictures from my childhood, but then they’re mixed in with Ryan’s childhood photos as Jason.

“It does oddly feel that this brotherly connection even though we haven’t met.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8pm on ITV.
