Coronation Street fans perplexed by Daniel mask blunder in Nicky hospital scene

Coronation Street fans were a little distracted during one scene on this evening’s trip to Weatherfield, as Daniel Osbourne visited Nicky Wheatley in the hospital.

Daniel (Rob Mallard) strolled into Nicky’s (Kimberly Hart-Simpson) empty hospital room, chatting away with his face mask incorrectly arranged under his chin.

Watching from home, viewers felt the scene was a little unrealistic in the wake of Covid, as patients are refused visitors to prevent the spread of the virus.

Similarly, viewers pointed out he was wearing his facemask incorrectly – something especially dangerous to do in a hospital.

Taking to Twitter, viewers pointed out Daniel wouldn’t likely be able to visit – especially while wearing a face mask so recklessly.

One said: “Since when was visiting allowed in hospitals?”

A second agreed, writing: “I was thinking the same, and he’s not even wearing his mask properly…. my mum couldn’t even visit my vulnerable dad when he was really ill…”

“Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought there was no hospital visiting at the moment yet Daniel strolls in with balloons visiting Nikki with his mask down,” chimed a third.

Nicky was reluctant to accept the offer of £5,000 in cash

And a fourth penned: “Why don’t they know when to use their masks at the right time? Now yapping away in hospital.”

While in the hospital, Daniel slapped a wad of cash on the table, offering Nicky the opportunity to pay off her debts.

The money had been stolen from Corrie villain Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew), after he accidentally left it behind in the local solicitor’s office.

Nicky was moved by the gesture, though she warned: “I won’t be able to pay you back.”

Daniel shrugged it off, saying: “It’s a fresh start – don’t throw it away.”

What will happen when Geoff finds out who stole his £5,000?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8pm on ITV.
